This is a stunning musical achievement, and a fitting testament to Jeffrey Lee's soaring talent. There are times when I *need* this song, like deep in my soul. It is the language of a yearning heart.
Absolutely, all them other bands and artists were or since then have been acknowledged for their achievements: Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Hüsker Dü, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, PIL, Gang Of Four, The Jesus & Marychain, Cabaret Voltaire, Dinosaur Jr etc. Never understood why they never became more popular, they had such an unique sound (a kind of delta-swamp-blues-punk), and JLP had possibly the greatest voice (the also late Grant Hart a close second - RIP) in alternative music. I was lucky to see them in the early 90's, one of the best gigs I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty. RIP JLP
Congo & Morrison are more reliable sources; a couple of ex-band members are still skewed by bitter jealously! JLP was a musical genius & they're often 'difficult', those with competing egos, & less natural talent, can't cope & get angry. I think he was undiagnosed Aspergers & intolerant normies never understand.
What a version of this song. That clarity. That soul. That spirit. That energy. That depth. At this point in his career, Jeffrey not only spoke with his voice, but also with his guitar.
The best friend I ever had and the greatest artist ever alive ... Jeff, I still miss zou and cry about the loss... Go boy, tell the mountain... You WERE the mountain!
Jeffrey is completely underrated as a guitarist. He was fantastic and got better year by year. He did not play his solos just because he could (like too many other guys), he played them because the songs needed them. Never a note too many, never a note too few.
j.l.p. was/is one of my absolute favorites. I love how he sang a bit flat from the key of his songs. It made everything brighter, and pained. He evolved into a great guitarist too. Underrated.
Saw them modeighties, the Hague, Holland, pouring tortential rain for hours, free concert in the citypark, I was 1 if 5 visitors, stood frontrow, duh, electric !. I happy I watch many of the now historical performances. Poor times nowadays with all them dime-a-dozen " $ingwr-songwriters" and "DJ's"....music is holy.
I was young & had to steal an ID to see The Gun Club. Traveled 60 miles to find out he was thrown in jail for drunk/disorderly & heroin charges in K.C.... Love him for that alone. 💜💓🐺
His guitar playing just got better over the years.. what a talent..

Jack White heard JLP sing, and thought to himself:
"My, I can do that"
yea but he can´t write a single decent song i even remember. he basically jsut copied the attitude.
