To be fair it's kind of ridiculous for the dragon born to be the leader of every single guild, the savior of the world, a vampire lord, werewolf, and the killer of gods. So I think building houses was a reasonable DLC. And tbh it was my favorite dlc back on xbox 360 because I hated the vanilla homes and being able to make my own was great.
@@topiheimola69 Not to mention each house can be constructed to be orient focused on the type of role playing you are doing based on each. Such as Lakeview Manor for active adventures because of the wide woodlands and greater enemies encounter, Winstead is excellent for a mage alchemist homes because of wide variety of ingredients available in the surrounding area along with the fish hatchery and optional greenhouse. The house plot in the pale could use for crafting as a mill's makes it more convenient for having a kitchen.

People that judge Hearthfire in comparison to the other DLC's are the type of people that judge books by how good they are as hats. Hearthfire was not supposed to add an exciting story line.
Just in the name "Hearthfire" should tell you what the DLC is about. Definition of hearth is "floor of a fireplace, area in front of a fireplace, and symbol of one's home". Adding the word fire basically says "a warm for in one's home"
they could've thought about the concept for Hearthfire AFTER the game was made and released. Most DLC's are realeased after the game because they think of new things to add to the game and to give it to us. they release them as DLC. and if you don't know, DLC stands for "Downloadable Content". so anything you download to be used in a base game is in fact a DLC. Also, both Dawngaurd and Dragonborn are priced at $20. Hearthfire is priced at $5. even though it's not free, the adjust the price for the amount of content it includes.

I don't know what it is about building the houses but that's actually one of my favorite things to do in Skyrim. Gathering the resources and slowly building it up piece by piece was quite satisfying. If I could play with only 1 of the expansions, it would be hearthstone.
I know right! I love the process of gathering all the materials and watching my house grow. It also has a lot to offer like growing your own ingredients for potions a library because I like to read the books in Skyrim sometimes, smithing and armory equipment and everything. It's like a One-Stop shop if you ask me. I like being able to have a family and everything. It adds another dimension of Skyrim that makes it more immersive and more like I'm in the world that I love.
Not only that but finally you can have a house that has everything you need, quite literally everything. Don't even have to leave to smelt your ore into ingots.
Mystogan .Ravenheart yes but in most cases, big pieces of downloadables are considered expansions(ie dragonborn, dawnguard, shivering isles, etc.) Where as small add-ons like hearthfire add very little are considered dlc. All in all, all expansions are dlc, but not all dlc are expansions

Still waiting for some to develop a proper Kingmaker storyline. One where you have to/get to rebuild Helgan, establish it as the seat of power in your hold. Gather a garrison of forces. Marry Eliseth or Ulfric, overthrow either or both, or forge alliances with the Jarls to gain their support in the Moot and become high king via diplomatic conquest. In other words a well thought out set of quest lines that allow you to put yourself on the thrown either through diplomacy, treachery or force of arms.
if you play civil war whoever you sided with should offer you be high king like Ulfric if you went stormcloak like me (LONG LIVE ULFRIC AND THE STORMCLOAKS) Ulfric although he would have popular vote as the jarls would be in support of the stormcloaks he still says he will wait for the Meeting of Moot to make the decision ...it could make it so ulfric would be like "if you can rebuild Helgen and establish it as a proper hold in skyrim once again….I will relinquish my spot in the high king decision by Moot..... you helped me win the war and now I offer you some help...I honestly see you being a better high king then I would be as im not heavy in politics...if you do become high king I wish you hire me as your commander of your army..that I excel in" for elisif the option would only be granted if you marry her and win the war for the (damned) Imperials....as a stormcloak you would become king and end up making Helgen the High Kings hold so if you side with ulfric you rebuild Helgen and establish your own settlement hell should be able to rename it I would rename helgen the Dragon Palace ..cause dragonborn high king alduin first attacks at helgen makes sense right for elisif you end up living in solitude's blue palace which is sooo boring the perk of being high king is you no longer receive bounties unless you murder someone if you get caught killing to many people without some form of contract then you will be forced to drop status of high king to your spouse could make you rethink joining the dark brotherhood BUT if you have proper contracts "having your steward right a notice you can show city guards that the person you killed was killed under contract could have hell of an expansion with this
I love it. Saving up to buy a plot of land when your character is still poor, coming back to craft nails and buy lumber over time, collecting items and materials to build with, choosing furniture, etc. It's about slowly seeing the house grow along with your character.
Dakota Stricklin Now you're just being unpleasant for no reason. If you don't like Herthfire, that's fine but not everyone plays the game the same way. I use various mods and RP restriction to nerf gold making. Personally I can't see the fun in just having everything handed to you in the game, I prefer a house my character can build with their own hands. Furthermore my first comment was for the OP, not you.
Hearthfire might not have added a lot of content, but it added *functional* content. For a mere 5,000 septims or thereabouts, you could get started on your very own house that does not require a loading zone and a bunch of walking. The fast-travel point drops you off right in front of your door. Can't get any more convenient than that! It does take a little money to fully upgrade the house, but you can do it bit-by-bit instead of having to fork over the whole lump sum at once, and your house can come with a Lot of perks, especially the Greenhouse. Lakeview in particular will spawn Lots of bees even inside of your greenhouse (not sure of this was intentional or not) and it is just excellent as you can have lots of alchemy ingredients. You also get all of the crafting machines standard, a ludicrous number of storage facilities, and even a mini-Temple in your basement to get any buff that you choose from either of the nine anytime you want. The spouse and children thing... meh. I never really paid much attention to it. I just love how functional the house is, it has literally every freaking thing I could possibly think of, and then some. EDIT: Also the extra monster attacks at Lakeview is awesome too, because of the alchemy ingredients, furs, etc. It also helps that it's rather close to a couple towns that you can sell your loot too.
I thought it was a terrible DLC because you cannot remove features from your house. I put a bed in the main hall, because I needed somewhere to sleep, thinking I could remove it when I expand. NOPE. I literally abandoned the house because no matter how cool it looks, it has a *BED IN THE ENTRY HALL.*
I've never had a problem with any of my family at Lakeview Manor, the kids like it and my wife tells me it's a beautiful home great for the children, even when giants and bandits get stuck in the frame or front door of my house.
I wished the Hearthfire homes were all different. Like Lakeview Manor would be the island mansion from the early Thieves Guild quest, decorated in Falkreath colors, with add-ons of course. Windstad being based on Morthal with a dock path and made with stone to protect it from high tides, then Heljarchen Hall keeps the Whiterun look but has a walled property.
Heljarchen Hall is actually considered to be in the Pale territory. You have to purchase the deed from the Jarl of Dawnstar. It is very close to Whiterun territory, though, like right on the border between them.
He says her name in the intro. Vilod. That's the name of the woman who says, "Death to the Stormcloaks," right before he says, "As fearless in death as he was in life."
Janeen Schultz lol, Vilod is the man's name, we can see him starving, bleeding and suffering on the ground between imperial soldiers while dragon destroys the town
Whoops. Wow. Ingrid says it. Was not paying enough attention and for some reason I always thought Ralof was talking about his sweetheart when he talked about who made the juniper mead. Talk about zoning out. :p
Vilod makes the mead it's Vilod... Ralof says: ''Helgen, i used to be sweet on a girl from here. I wonder if Vilod is still making that mead with juniper berries mixed in.'' exact quote.
I'm pretty sure I once married an Orc and he was perfectly happy with Lakeview Manor, especially because it "thoughens up" the children or something like that. He liked the fact that it was a bit more dangerous there.
11:50 I spent hours making a "treasure room" like this in the hidden room in the Windhelm house. Came in one time and 100 gold bars and a pile of gems exploded and flew everywhere. Nearly cried.
“Apparently, a girl Raloph was sweet on made mead with juniper berries mixed in for him!” Vilod, a man that we get to hear speak during the Helgen executions: *Am I a joke to you?*
Hearthfire was the first dlc i bought when i got the game. It's great for immersion into the world, giving you your own space away from the hustle and bustle of the townhomes.
and Skyrim VR is arguably the best VR game currently available...I play it with xbone controller instead of the annoying motion controllers (negates every flaw that comes with VR but keeps the benefit of actually being in the world) and it's the most fun I've ever had with the game. It makes you appreciate the world so much more since you can grasp the size and beauty of everything so much better. If you haven't tried it yet believe me this: you've never before realized how friggin huge these mountains are
I don't know why Hearthfire got so much hate. Yeah, it didn't have a story, but it was only five bucks and it let you build your own house that you could do a LOT of customization with. The best part of it was slowly getting the materials and money to build it yourself, watching that dumpy shack turn into the entry hall for a huge manor with all sorts of furniture and equipment in it.
Legend has it that a modding adventurer of great renown once built his own home out of firewood and many elk pelts. Bethesda saw how great it was and thus Hearthfire was made. You can still use it if you have Oldrim and a PC - www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18480?tab=files I'm not saying that that is why some hate Hearthfire. In fact it was probably more due to the pesky orphans that run screaming at you to adopt them every time you enter a city. The one in Windhelm never fails to corner me to buy her overpriced flowers.
7:40 I laughed my ass off. Vilod is an entirely different character from the girl he had a crush on, the only reason he got confused is because Ralof's sentences was worded in a weird way. Lol
This reminds me of my gem hoard. I collected every gem I could come across in game and dropped each one individually (thousands of them) in one of my basements. It was like a straight up ball pit in there fam lol
I threw everything I could find into the winking skeever just in front of the bar for a while. Not only did the frame rate drop I was told off for making a mess and crashed the game.
I personally really liked hearthfire. I mean i was pissed when i heard i had to pay for it, but it was like 10 bucks and you could get a cool cheapish house early as hell. Was really nice.
Not if I have my helper who calls me Thane and spouse around. They will kill him/her on the spot. Honestly though why would u ask that? It's a game....😕🤔
Oh gods Faendal would be the worst steward ever, he runs away from EVERY conflict he sees! I would adopt him instead and have some true warrior babysit him while I'm not home saving him from tiny spiders or a skeever -____-
It would be too hard to programs *for bethesda*. The maid would need to move objects to the right place. Well, it could be done. You could have a bunch of chest and tell the maid which kind of item is in which. It would be harder tho with item that are supposed to be somewhere but not on a stand.

You have to do quests for the Dawnstar and Morthal Jarls before the other two houses become available for purchase. It's no different than buying all the other houses. The only perk to building a kitchen is the oven. You can bake garlic bread which weighs .5 pounds and cures diseases.
Traditionally we call DLCs which expand the original storyline and mechanics "Expansions". Literally, everything from mods to even viruses are expansions. Good thing we don't use the literal meaning in informal settings such as gaming classification, right?
I just recently got Lakeview Manor and I have to say the location and the actual house are probably my favorite in the game. However, I will say it turns into a death match arena pretty quick. Within 2 hours I’ve had bandits somehow get in my house, at least 2 packs of wolves attack, and a giant trying to kill my cow. Also had hired thugs show up but that’s most likely not due to the area but because I stole something. Anyways, it’s a great house and location but just be ready to be fighting 24/7
Vilod is a guy, he's bleeding out in the intro before you enter helgen keep. The line Ralof says about the girl he was sweet on is separate from the line about Vilod making Mead with Juniper berries. Great video anyhow!

it may be because of the respawn time on the house. Everything that spawns in at your house will come back, including the Bees in the Hive but only when the respawn takes effect, which is every 10 days BUT only if the house is not visited.
I agree. This is my favorite dlc.
ironic because for me that *is* the only DLC I have :"D I can agree though that house building is surprisingly very entertaining
Hearthfire is a DLC
Where as Dawnguard and Dragonborn are expansions
Jim Jam+ If you download and install it then it is DLC
Mystogan .Ravenheart yes but in most cases, big pieces of downloadables are considered expansions(ie dragonborn, dawnguard, shivering isles, etc.) Where as small add-ons like hearthfire add very little are considered dlc. All in all, all expansions are dlc, but not all dlc are expansions
XoX maybe read what I wrote in the replies, all expansions are dlc, but not all dlc are expansions
XoX so by your logic, the horse armor from oblivion that cost 8$ expands the game

That's some Mount & Blade shit right there 😂😂
if you play civil war whoever you sided with should offer you be high king like Ulfric if you went stormcloak like me (LONG LIVE ULFRIC AND THE STORMCLOAKS) Ulfric although he would have popular vote as the jarls would be in support of the stormcloaks he still says he will wait for the Meeting of Moot to make the decision ...it could make it so ulfric would be like "if you can rebuild Helgen and establish it as a proper hold in skyrim once again….I will relinquish my spot in the high king decision by Moot..... you helped me win the war and now I offer you some help...I honestly see you being a better high king then I would be as im not heavy in politics...if you do become high king I wish you hire me as your commander of your army..that I excel in" for elisif the option would only be granted if you marry her and win the war for the (damned) Imperials....as a stormcloak you would become king and end up making Helgen the High Kings hold so if you side with ulfric you rebuild Helgen and establish your own settlement hell should be able to rename it I would rename helgen the Dragon Palace ..cause dragonborn high king alduin first attacks at helgen makes sense right for elisif you end up living in solitude's blue palace which is sooo boring the perk of being high king is you no longer receive bounties unless you murder someone if you get caught killing to many people without some form of contract then you will be forced to drop status of high king to your spouse could make you rethink joining the dark brotherhood BUT if you have proper contracts "having your steward right a notice you can show city guards that the person you killed was killed under contract could have hell of an expansion with this

I am, too. The content was good for roleplaying. That doesn't mean it was bad.
I love it. Saving up to buy a plot of land when your character is still poor, coming back to craft nails and buy lumber over time, collecting items and materials to build with, choosing furniture, etc. It's about slowly seeing the house grow along with your character.
Dakota Stricklin Depends on how you play.
Dakota Stricklin Now you're just being unpleasant for no reason. If you don't like Herthfire, that's fine but not everyone plays the game the same way. @@degrengolada2360 So Hearthfire is a DLC while the others are not, Do you even know what DLC means?
@@username1300 its both.
@@maxwell_edison

I've never had a problem with any of my family at Lakeview Manor, the kids like it and my wife tells me it's a beautiful home great for the children, even when giants and bandits get stuck in the frame or front door of my house.
yeah it depends on the spouse. my spouse, an Orc guy said it was great because it builds character.
Ruthi San You´r spouse, i a guy? DAFUCK?
The guy above me doesn't know when he sees it.

Morrowind is almost as old as me and I love that fucking game.
It's a good game. They built it to last a long time until the next one comes out.
and Skyrim VR is arguably the best VR game currently available...I play it with xbone controller instead of the annoying motion controllers (negates every flaw that comes with VR but keeps the benefit of actually being in the world) and it's the most fun I've ever had with the game. It makes you appreciate the world so much more since you can grasp the size and beauty of everything so much better. If you haven't tried it yet believe me this: you've never before realized how friggin huge these mountains are
it is still a great game though. I play it for... well just playing it normally, unlike most people who mod it until it crashes...
My favourite game is 18 years older than me.
Started out as 20$ though not 5
Not sure about pc but on console the dlc is a buggy piece of shit. I still love it but its the most aggravating part of the game
Legend has it that a modding adventurer of great renown once built his own home out of firewood and many elk pelts. Bethesda saw how great it was and thus Hearthfire was made.
You can still use it if you have Oldrim and a PC - www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18480?tab=files
I'm not saying that that is why some hate Hearthfire. In fact it was probably more due to the pesky orphans that run screaming at you to adopt them every time you enter a city. The one in Windhelm never fails to corner me to buy her overpriced flowers.

While I personally prefer Heljarchen Hall as a true home, I build Lakeview Manor most often as it's really easy to get early on as a base of operations, and I hate that I have to go through Skald to get HH or progress the Civil War far enough to replace him.
Who painted the giants nails
Juniper berries? *chuckles nervously* Dorthie drop that pie!
Okay, I have played Skyrim for a looong time now but I have never even seen salmon roe. Guess you always learn something new.
Thank you for this video!
Edit: Also, if Skyrim really is based on real life Nords, I think you pronounced "Heljarchen" correctly because that sure sounds Scandinavian-like. Trust me, I would know as a Fennoscandian.
Ooouuuh. Fennoscandian, thats a fancy word. You truly are a true geo nerd lol. (It's a cgp grey video reference. I didn't think i'd see someone using that word in my life.) Lol have a nice day.
@@poutineausyropderable7108 I actually suck at geography 😂 Finns just have to correct the terms often because people tend to call us Scandinavian which we're not.
I could never get my Bee Hive to work
Probably sabotaged by some Minion of Maven's Mead Incorporated.
Because you don't believe hard enough
it may be because of the respawn time on the house. Everything that spawns in at your house will come back, including the Bees in the Hive but only when the respawn takes effect, which is every 10 days BUT only if the house is not visited. If you keep visiting your house over and over things will not respawn there. At least that is how I believe it works, I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will tell us very loudly with cap locks on and call me a noob several times throughout.
But when you have a wife like Borgakh - how can you stay away from home for 10 days?
I think I need to put a honeycomb in it first - I guess Borgakh is the only honey my character will have ... maybe she is raiding the Apiary
Maybe you just can't get any honey. No birds and bees for you. XD
Hearthfire is not a real DLC?
Let's see...
DLC means Downloadable Content.
Hearthfire has content, which is downloadable.
I think that counts as DLC.
Just as much as paid mods count as paid mods.

@@ThatSpicyDragonpretty simple lol
This is my favorite dlc it feels like the real endgame. To collect all the cool gear and putting it all on display
except “on display” just means on the floor because the decoration mechanics are horrendous 😪
You saying Llewellyn kills me! Feeling the love Bethesda, the Welsh are playing
I physically cringed when I got to that part for this reason hah
Srsly it may be small but it's my favorite DLC...
You say the other ones are better but for some reason I have much more memory of this DLC.
OMG I gave my adopted daughter Sofie one of those Juniper Berry Crostata D: I am the worst mom in Skyrim
Spectra Dusker
Should have given her some Jarrin Root.
I gave two daughters multiple of them. I'm a werewolf I slaughter everything. And I tell then to do chores 1 time a day at most (so evil😉) then I give them rigged daggers at legit billions of damage, my wife is dead, I leave them in a swamp because I'm an argonian. They hate monsters. I'm rarely home. Leave them with the worst bard (damn it Bethesda) and leave them with valdimar who looks like a pedo. I'm the worst, not to mention I give them around 50 gold and have more than than 200,000 (not rigged) at least I didn't kill runa's fox who I named faux after the harry potter phoenix. I don't kill foxes I'm skyrim they b too cute. I joined racist stormcloaks for the roleplay idea of separating skyrim from the rest of tamriel so I can take over a smaller area and reign supreme. I am the worst. END OF STORY.
Spectra Dusker don’t worry, children are immortal in Skyrim
I remember one time I had a lakeview house and one day i went outside and there was a fricking giant attacking my cows.
Same only it was glitched and was stuck in the wall
Only once?
I stopped getting cows and horses at ANY of the houses 'cos everything kept killing them.
@@TheRealRedAce Yes, it is so annoying to return from adventuring for some R&R to the utter chaos of an attack that leaves dead chickens, dead stewards and dead house carls. While the damn carriage driver just looks on unscathed.
@@Val_Emrys I haven't lost a steward or a housecarl yet (apart from the one I hit myself in mistake for one of the bandits!), but horses chickens and cows aplenty.
In my first play through, I couldn’t even come home to the winstead mannor, because every time I did, at least 1-2 giants spawned outside, being low level, I struggled significantly in defeating them. Also my partner despawned, idk if they died because of the giants, or what but now I cannot get remarried.
Juniper mead can be found at the thirsk mead hall
i don’t understand how hearthfire isn’t a real dlc ? ya ok it doesn’t have a story line but it gives you the ability to build a house. and it was only 5 bucks. dlc stands for downloadable content, come on now...
PlutoPlayz Exactly! It IS a dlc. It’s just not an expansion. That’s what Dragonborn and Dawnguard are.
It ends up costing about 20,000 to build the manor house. It usually does for me, in any case.
The girls aren't wrong for complaining about monsters in the swamp at Winstad Manor. Draugr wash up on the shore of the swamp, quite close to the house, on a regular basis. They were all fully and completely dead, but I can still see how they would be quite upsetting for a child.
If your spouce is an orc, your spouce will love also being at Lakeview Mannor, saying itll make them warriors.
