Hello everyone - as I mentioned in our last video, things were going really well during the last few months of 2023 and January of this year started off good as well. However, the last few weeks have been really hard. Theresa is showing a noticeable decline, increased agitation and often is refusing to take her medication, shower, and change clothes. Her Neurologist prescribed Klonopin for her agitation and that seems to help with her mood and willingness to cooperate with me, as I provide care. Her demeanor during this video is pleasant partly due to that brownie with ice cream and hot fudge, and also partly due to her prescribed dose of Klonopin taken about an hour before filming. Her Primary Care Doctor ordered a Hospice Evaluation. I was surprised by this as I don't believe Theresa is at the EOL Stage of Alzheimer's. But it is just an evaluation at this point. Perhaps Hospice offers different levels of care before EOL or maybe her doctor just wants to get her into the system for if/when EOL care if needed. If approved for Hospice, they can offer respite care during my working hours. After she wakes up each day, It becomes a real tug of war between working my job and caring for her. Fortunately, my job is very understanding. I will do a 1:1 video in the near future to discuss things as a new care plan takes shape. As always, thank you all for your support - Much love and God Bless.

I am so so sorry that it is getting harder Trey,, such an awful thing to watch loved ones turning into someone else,,, Trey please understand I don’t mean to be invasive,, but old nurses tend to be a little forward! I am concerned about YOU,, you have had dark circles around your eyes for a long time and it seems to be getting more noticeable,, Hope it is nothing more than lack of sleep etc,, but I think it may be good if you went and had a thorough physical,, we as subscribers care about you, as well as Theresa❤

my mom was sent home for a 2 day hospital stay with hospice at 86 after not being able to swallow, they brought morphine and a few other crazy meds, my mom didn't take anything ever except a low blood pressure pill, 2 days after forcing morphine down her throat, she wasn't in pain or anything, she was in a coma and next day dead, it was so fast that i couldn't believe it

You and Theresa have been in my thoughts and prayers. Glad to see an update, but so sorry to hear of Theresa’s decline. I found your channel while trying to learn more about this disease and came across a doctor who is a specialist in dementia. Her name is Dr. Tam Cummings. I mention this because Theresa didn’t seem to see the cards you were trying to show her and I learned from some of the talks that Dr does online that as dementia progresses, field of vision is lost. The example given was that a patient may have food in front of them but take food that is across from them (another person’s) because that is all they can see.
Looking forward to your future one on one chat. I hope you can get some respite care. Prayers to you and Theresa.

Hi Kathy - Yes, Theresa's vision, spacial awareness and depth perception have been deteriorating. She often does not understand where to sit at the table or which utensils are hers or which food items on her plate are hers. I often have to place the utensil in her hand and tell her it is ok to eat. She also has similar troubles with brushing her teeth, she does not know how to pickup the toothbrush and put it in her mouth. I usually help her get started. In this video, she took to the brownie pretty well but I give her that same bowl every day with ice cream in it. She is eager to dig in! Thanks for your comment, prayers and support.

Trey, this happened with my mom. We were at the table and she kept staring, and I asked what was wrong. My mom said "What must I do" and I picked up my fork and showed her. But it came to a point we had to feed her. I lived over an hour a way, and sometimes I would cry all the way home. She was diagnosed at 63 and was almost 75 when she went home to be with Jesus. Teresa is so young. A beautiful woman😊

My dear 61 yo husband has dementia (Lewy body) and loves his ice cream nightly. He was never a dessert person, but ice cream brings him memories of when he was a boy. Recently he developed a reluctance to shower, and constantly disrobe. He wasn’t sleeping & hallucinating. No UTI. Currently in the hospital - praying they can adjust his meds so he can come home. He can’t be in Klonapine. Caregiving is exhausting.

Trey, you and Theresa have been on my mind so much over the last month. I totally understand the struggles you have been going through. The way you did this video was well thought out. Trust me, I understand the struggles you have been experiencing! My mother is getting more difficult to care for by the day, too.
What you and I can do is stay calm and guide our loved ones, one moment at a time. Honestly my nephew and I are exhausted today. It's so tough to stay calm and kind most days here. Yet fortunately today has been a good day. Tomorrow I get the day off, and am going out for the day. I thank God every day for my nephew. I'd be a mess without him!

Hi guys I just happened to come across your vlogs . It’s lovely to see you both . I believe I told you my friends husband was diagnosed with Picks disease . Is this what your wife has ? The Dr told her it’s much worse than Alzheimer’s disease . He used to do the same thing as Teresa . He has a million dollar business at one time . Unfortunately he ended up in a nursing home . He was only 54 when he passed . Prayers for your wife .🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi Trey, it’s a positive move to accept Hospice to help with Theresa. It doesn’t mean that she is at the final stage of her life. It’s a transition that will help you immensely, both physically, mentally and emotionally. I know from experience with my mom, it doesn’t get easier, so please stay positive and strong. Prayers are with you both. 🙏❤️

Hospice is wonderful! My husband declined quickly with his dementia and also refused his meds, became agitated, didn’t sleep well at night….. hospice came to help with changing clothes, and bathing. His decline was fast…. I pray for you both as you journey this path. You don’t walk alone….🙏🏻🙏🏻💕

Thank you for sharing Cheryl. I was a bit confused when her doctor ordered a hospice evaluation. I thought that was only for EOL care - perhaps her doctor speculates a quick decline could be on the horizon or maybe Hospice offered different levels of care before EOL. This part of the journey is new to me. I appreciate your prayers and support.

I have been following your journey for awhile. I took care of my MIL for 4 years. During Covid her dementia ramped up quickly. But she was in her 90’s. When she stopped being able to participate in her daily care I called Hospice. It is an amazing support! They actually take over all the expenses through her medical coverage. The support is amazing. Hi Frances- her vision and spacial awareness is declining. She cannot focus on things I try and show her and gets lost in the house trying to find the bathroom. Normally, she just finds me and I help her to the toilet. However, she then gets upsets when I get her to the bathroom saying "I can do it myself" But she still needs help undressing and finding the toilet paper. So I just stay patient and help her...knowing it is just the disease talking. As always, thanks for your comment and support.

Thank you Trey for the update regarding Theresa. The way you transmitted the information was so well thought out. You are wise & respectful.
It saddens me knowing of Theresa's decline; however in saying that, Theresa's gorgeous smile and sense of humor are the testimony of how she is comfortable being at home and you being her caregiver. I pray Theresa will be approved for hospice care at home. That would be helpful to her, and to you when you are working.
Your unconditional love, compassion and caring for your beautiful wife Theresa is very touching. Although we don't see you "behind the scenes", there is no doubt the Trey we see in your videos is the same Trey in private life. God has given you a special mission, and He has equipped you for this.

Hello Trey and Theresa! It was a nice surprise to see the two of you after watching the game. Our family have always been Chiefs fans so we were pretty happy they won, what a game and so so close! Theresa's ice cream and brownie looked so delicious, I am going to have some hot chocolate before I go to bed to get my chocolate "fix" after seeing Theresa eating her dessert!! I pray that you will get some assistance from hospice, I was a caregiver for a friend after she had a stroke, and noticed when the physical therapist came she would listen to them more than me when it came time to exercise and eat. I hope that it works out that you get that help. God bless you both! Much love from Arizona💙

Hi Trey and Theresa. I love brownies and ice cream too. What a great combination. I think it is wonderful that Theresa can feed herself. This is something so important to well-being and independence. I spend a fair amount of time on UA-cam and I wonder if you have done any research on reversing inflammation in the body through diet? I enjoy your videos and I can tell that Theresa is very wonderful person who has so much love in her heart. You are a strong warrior too. Everyone has their limits but when it comes to love, there are no limits.

Hi Julia - yes I have done a little research and I understand that sugar (very unfortunately) may not be so good for inflammation. However, who could deny her that fudge brownie with ice cream lol !! It makes her so happy - I just want her to enjoy life. I do try and feed her healthy otherwise. Theresa does not eat any meat or fish so I do my best to fill her up with lentils, nuts, seeds, dark green veggies, hummus , fruits, cheese, egg whites etc... Appreciate your question and thanks for your kind words and support.
