It's weird Mo I also worked at Microsoft as a PFE from 2008 to 2018 - everything changed for me too in a good way. Thank you for this. I appreciate learning about happiness or any life lessons from someone who is winning at life, and who has had to deal with tremendous loss and hardships.
Having fun (dopamine hits) to escape the unhappiness is something we see quite often in the world. I'm glad you mentioned this and help steer us on the right path.
Also, the Netflix analogy of "Unhappiness on demand" with replaying bad memories is so true (and funny).

I loved lockdown. My life was so much fun - hectic - challenging - different ! It was amazing. I taught group fitness / dance classes on Zoom - such a challenge - so much fun - and made so many people wake up with purpose!
Happiness is always an inside job. I discovered this when married to a passive aggressive covert narcissist who almost broke me. Living alone with many animals is the happiest I have ever been in my life. 66 years old and so full of gratitude and joy!

"Your Happiness is not a result of the events of your life... Your happiness is a result of a comparison between what the event is and what you want the event to be." This insight shifts perspective beautifully, emphasizing the power of our expectations in shaping our happiness. Let's aim to align our reality with our desires without letting the gap dictate our contentment.

Impressive insight! Gawdat's message is crucial for families. Encourage open communication, share your experiences, and demonstrate the behaviors you wish your children to adopt. Highlighting positive growth and ensuring they feel understood without judgment is key. Also, creating an environment where they can freely express their feelings without fear is vital. Remember, they learn more from what you do than what you say.

This reminds me of "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle - the emphasis is on living in the present moment and not allowing past pain to dominate our present experience. Tolle teaches that suffering arises when we mentally replay past hurts instead of letting them go. Similarly, the video emphasizes not replaying the pain but instead focusing on the now.
By consciously focusing on the present and making small, positive changes, we can break the cycle of suffering and build a more joyful, fulfilling life.

No.A wondering brain does not cause mental illnesses but too much stress, lack of proper guidance and support cause mental issues. Also too much stress can create an imbalance in the neurotransmitters in the brain and with proper medication and counseling this imbalance can be brought back to normal. You are saying things too confidently even when you don't know the truth.I have studied psychiatry and I know how and what causes abnormal thinking and behaviour. Also when we talk to ourselves,It is the inner voice of God in all of us that is trying to help us to solve our problems. We may just think about it or say it loudly. When we ignore this voice's direction,we end up doing wrong things. It gives us a choice to do good but difficult or do bad which is easy and giving instant happiness to boost our Otherwise your explanation is very nice.

Thank you for offering your insight and enlightening us from your professional training. Is it possible for the inner voice to lead us astray? Could the voices cause us to harm ourselves or others if left untamed? You appear to suggest that the voices are (always) helpful and unidimensional, you might agree that’s not true. That’s where I differ with your shared thoughts. Otherwise, I appreciate your contribution.

I was just thinking about a nice metaphor.
The sun(happiness) is only shining with the absence of the clouds(unhappines).
When you are unhappy the only way the sun will shine again and become is to take away the clouds. The sun cannot move infront of the clouds.

Profound and heart breaking but here is my issue. I wasn’t happy as a child can’t connect with any happy moments growing up. 😞

    You need to have:
    1. Enough money to pay your bills. You are presumably not living in a field and eating grass.
    2. Your physical and mental health.
    Then the happiness discussion begins.

To meditate is to pray to God Almighty and recall His scripture.
To know that He has plans and a purpose for me.
Prayer can be difficult as humans have the attention span of a gold fish.
    This is an awesome video❤
