handball it's nice to watch, but not to play, football is nice to watch, futsal is nice to play, football(on large field) is a drudge to play, futsal to watch is boring, that's why the football is so popular, for handball there's no beautiful variant for people enjoying to play ...
@JM do you mean a fade away shot like in basketball? If so, you can't really because it takes away a lot of power you need to get the ball past the goalie
@@johnnym11 Some words are very similar but the pronunciation is waaaaayyyy different - coming from a Danish person. You pretty much have a 0,01% chance that you will pronounce a nickname correctly like they did. You do not just simply guess how you pronounce it - it was 100% practiced but still quite impressive given how smoothly they did it.

FINALLY I come across this on the internet. I have complained about the Rio Olympics only showing a few minutes from each event. Totally without any kind of real meaning, in my oppinion. I have revisited events from the London Olympics many times, because they show the FULL events. I hope, I will be able to find more like this from Rio Olympics from now on?! Meanwhile the official "London Olympics" have HUNDREDS of "full time" matches from all the team-sports, also from the preliminary rounds. Same goes for other events, like cycling/sailing/rowing and badminton, just to mention a few of My "Danish" sports! I would specifically love to see the bronze match in badminton between Viktor Axelsen and Lin Dan again?!

After a few days it was taken down on behalf of "Rio Olympics", even though YOU DO NOT OFFER IT YOURSELVES??!! Honestly, it that the "Olympic Spirit" of the corporate age??!!
The TV coverage is the same. They call it 'highlights' but you never see enough of any sport to take it in. I don't watch the TV coverage now. I just find the athlete's performance, if I can and watch it here

Proud to be Danish.. A day that will never be forgotten - a dream coming true for Danish Handball.. Stepping out of the Women's team shadow. Cannot wait to see them defend it in Tokyo, when ever that will be (stupid Covid!).
This was their first gold medal that started Denmark's dominance that has lasted ever since, even until now in 2023 with their third world cup title in a row. This was truly an amazing moment. Now, I'm just used to them winning 😅

Just a little friendly correction of something the commentator said. He claimed, SEVERAL times, that this was the first Olympic handball gold for Denmark. No, it was not!! The female Danish National Handball Team won Olympic gold 3 ( three ) times in a row. Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

Not sure if Handball is second most popular sport. It depends from country to country. I would argue it is more Basketball & Volleyball, then maybe even Rugby, then Handball. Of course in Scandinavia Handball is huuuuuuuuuge.

I'm with a lot of people on here.. It was fun to watch and exhilarating to play (in high school 30 yrs ago-it depended on luck-whether your teacher was cool and knew the sport existed. I can't figure out why this sport in the United States is not competing with other mainstream sports-at least it should be as popular as NHL hockey. I'm sure others on here have similar visions. I'm in! Is it the design of the court (basketball or other)? The camera angle? Needs to be tougher -checking with helmets/padding? Money and/or production issues? Ugh! I know it's something:)!

Excluding stuff like Cricket being super popular in India and therefore messing up most lists. You can research "Top 10 most popular sports lists worldwide" Handball never appears. As I said, even Rugby is collectively more popular , if you accept India then Cricket and Field Hockey are more popular than Handball. Even Ice Hockey propably is slightly more popular than Handball. This is reflective in Handball being a fairly "young" Olympic Sport. It was only introduced in its current indoor variant form in the 1972 games and has remained there ever since. Handball is not even popular in a country like Italy. Only in Scandinavian countries, France, Germany, Spain and Eastern European countries. This is what I get confused about. The rules state you can only take three steps with the ball...but i'm clearly seeing them take way more than three steps when handling the ball. Like i'm seeing 4 and 5 steps at times and even smaller shuffle steps too.
Handball unfortunately is not that serious of a sport. If rules were enforced strictly, almost 10 - 25 % of goals were disallowed. Usually the goals of the wingers who jump into the circle, the ball must leave the hand before one foot touches the ground. You can hear the commentators point this out, that the French winger Luc Abalo got 'lucky' ('stays very long in the air') several times actually, that the refs didn't whistle and disallow. This among other things makes Handball in my book "less of a sport".
Because this guys are professional athletes an they respect each other bodies. There are some hits but nothing ugly and with bad intent. In your case, most of the players are just bad intended and eager to win, so they do all the wrong stuff. In Romania we players have a saying: "Enemies in the game and friends after it".
I’ve just looked this up, and yes it may be harder with grown men, but this looks incredibly easy, it’s just basket ball and lacrosse but you don’t have to dribble and no stick and armor, what’s the point for such a easy game with not taking much talent?
Common misconception about this sport is that there is no dribbling. YES, THERE IS! And it's pivotal for playing attack. Also you need a very strong hand to throw the ball the size of your fist.
Well one could also ask then, what's the point of dribbling, what's the point of Basketball? No stick and armor, because selling expensive useless sports equipment is usually an (North) American concept. In Sports like Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Rugby - all you need is a ball and a pair of shoes, much more affordable. Lacrosse is a complete joke btw
You can substitute your keeper for another field player and this way you're 7v6 on the attack, and after the attack you quickly substitute back one player for the keeper. It's also often used when one player in your team gets a 2 minute suspension, you substitute the keeper to keep the attack 6v6

Dude you now that English has root in Norman language wich is Danish Swede and Norway. Mixed with latin romanizied French words.

The co commentator is a 30 year veteran of the sport as player, coach and commentator and is also French!

No Danish dominance started when we won the European Championship in 2008. That was the first gold medal on the male side.

Referees sometimes lose track on number of steps, well you know like happens in basketball.

I’ve just looked this up, and yes it may be harder with grown men, but this looks incredibly easy, it’s just basket ball and lacrosse but you don’t have to dribble and no stick and armor, what’s the point for such a easy game with not taking much talent?
Common misconception about this sport is that there is no dribbling. YES, THERE IS! And it's pivotal for playing attack. Also you need a very strong hand to throw the ball the size of your fist.
Well one could also ask then, what's the point of dribbling, what's the point of Basketball?
No stick and armor, because selling expensive useless sports equipment is usually an (North) American concept.
In Sports like Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Rugby - all you need is a ball and a pair of shoes, much more affordable.

They're to get advantage of being 7 VS 6. Of course is the risk of a very offensive strategy.

can someone explain me why the keeper wasnt in the goal sometimes?
You can substitute your keeper for another field player and this way you're 7v6 on the attack, and after the attack you quickly substitute back one player for the keeper.
It's also often used when one player in your team gets a 2 minute suspension, you substitute the keeper to keep the attack 6v6
