The Million Program Era housing construction between 1965 and 1974 represents the pinnacle of Sweden’s trajectory as a welfare state dedicated to serving its citizens from the cradle to the grave and a time of great innovation in housing. The multifamily units from this period are now objects of great scrutiny, as the buildings’ technical systems begin to age, new energy requirements are introduced, and many large-scale housing estates are experiencing socioeconomic decline and increased segregation.
