  • After almost 50,000 miles in 2.5 years, it's time to say goodbye to Helga BMW R1200GS, so I thought I'd run through some of my R1200GS best accessories I've bought for her and how I've got on with them.
BMW R1200GS accessories come in every shape and form, but they all have one thing in common - they're NOT cheap! So are they worth it?

Thought we'd be waiting till January for this one, but you've just got to love the expensive service card as an excuse for a new bike, certainly one of my favorites. Great vid.

On every bike I've ever owned valve clearances have never needed adjusting. I just service my bikes with fully synthetic oil every 2000 miles and take the risk while putting all saved cash towards the next machine. Never bitten me.

My 1995 R1100RS has clicked up 164,000k's (having spent an undisclosed amount) Fraya is running as strong as ever with zero maintenance issues, yes I can't afford to be anything less than sentimental about her. 45 yrs of riding 28 machines of most makes and models, (all Japanese time bombs) I've become brand loyal to bmw. my K100rs 1986 at 50,000ks is strong and reliable machine, some money spent, but, again Freda is a sentimental favorite. If I had the means id own a stable of new bikes, but, im satisfied with what I have ;)

THE KTM is high up on my suspicions for the new bike. However, you do love the GS and the 1250 does everything a little better than the 1200. While I would say the 1250, the fact that you say the extra parts won't fit the new bike make me switch to the KTM as your new purchase.

After 30+ years of nothing but 1000cc sports bikes (including 3 gixers, you’ll be pleased to know) I’m now on my 2nd consecutive GSA. Stop press... I placed the order for my 3rd, yesterday!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you chose. 👍
BTW, the front fender extender is absolutely brilliant. The mudsling might be good for mud but didn’t do what I wanted it to do with water. I sold after my first wet weather trip - it protects the shock but the rider gets drenched legs from spray coming out sideways. I tried the Puig hugger, and it’s superb - I wouldn’t be without it! It now gets transferred from bike to bike - you need to save your bolts, Bruce! 😉👍

Sitting with 19,500 miles on the clock, you did 50,000 miles on your Rallye, was it reliable? Did you have any unexpected cost’s.

You could give 2-300 quid to a BMW shop (ideally the same that you purchased it from) and they'd take all the extras of for you and replace the original bolts...
If you don't want to spend "any" money look at the schematic and get the bolts for all the accessories .
Also, have you not considered selling privately? With all the fans you have surely someone would love to get your specced up for adventure and super well cared for bike, and be happy to pay to dollar for the privilege:-)

Recent podcast discussions would suggest the R1250GS as the next Helga but saying some of the extras didn't fit the next bike threw me a bit as indeed there is a difference in some specs between the models. Taking the Hex would suggest the BMW as I think it covers both so my dart is thrown at the 1250.....surprise me....(not the Harley!)😜.

I’d go for the Yamaha Super Tenere 1200.👍
