- Time to clutch your pearls. I’m about to get mean and destructive! Over the past two weeks I have seen this little @OzarkTrails Walmart knife flooding the social media feeds. The curiosity as been to much and so many people have gone out and bought this. Well I did too. I first glance one would instantly think @BenchmadeKnifeCompany clone. It does look very similar to the bench made bugout but what about the quality? Ozark Trail is not know for its great quality when it comes to knives or tools. They have always been a cheap “I just need this to get a job done without breaking the bank” item.
Well, that being said, First we saw the Multiforce hit the market. And people flocked to it because it looked like a @LeathermanToolGroup Wave, or was at least similar. I reviewed that tool, modded that tool and abused it. You know what? I stood up and turned out to be a decent tool. Know over to the forums. Ill mention on here because Im in that group. @BestDamnEDC Several times a day for the last two weeks this knife has popped up in the feeds on Facebook and there are those who crap all over it without having ever laid their hands in this little guy.
So decided to se if it was in fact going to stand up to some horrendous abuse that would make most knife owners hide their precious blades.

I am very surprised by what it stood. I actually once did something like that to a good knife because I was in a YOLO mood but I regret. Now this takes the meaning of a beater knife to another level. This is a true beater.
I love mine! Had it just over a year now and it's still razor sharp and a great edc!

Thanks for doing this. I bought 3 of these and gave one to my cousin. One is my work / daily EDC and the other is parted out and serves as a backup parts donor. These are surprisingly well built. The steel liners, stop pins, pivot and axis pin are very robust. Even the standoff spacers, despite being really basic are sufficient. The weak points for mine have been the pocket clip and omega springs. My pocket clip somehow got bent sideways but I was able to easily bend it back. One omega spring broke from just casual use and pocket EDC, so I am down 1 out of 4 springs between the two knives. They sell spare springs on Amazon. Apparently there is some history of them breaking, Amazon would not sell it if there are no buyers. I might get some extras. Three knives for under $20. Hopefully WM will offer these again next year... maybe with a ball bearing pivot and increase the grip / traction on the plastic scales.
That’s awesome. I have an order coming in sometime this week. The knife game is being upped by budget builders not. Swiss tech has a new line that just released. I have the Micarta Flipper and the Bushcraft knife coming in. The flipper is using caged ceramic bearings, Micarta scales, and liner lock. And under $30. I can’t wait to get these in my hand to check them out. Good quality knives that don’t break the bank are the jam!!!

Oh, you hit it right on the head. Best knife video I have ever seen. You are gonna piss off. These high-end knife people. They can lie to themselves all they want, but they know. BEWARE 0N-LINE BUYERS...I am now seeing many Ebay sellers of Ozark Trail claiming knives to be axis lock when they are actually frame lock. Study the specifications on back of the package in the photos! I did just win auction on Ebay for the genuine article but paid 4 times what they cost at WalMart (if they have any). None of the Wal Marts in my area have any.

Finally somebody that agrees that for what most of us who carries a EDC for normal use don't have to shed hundred of dollars to have a decent knife or to be "COOL" according to some knife pages influencers!
Mine was $4. They definitely know how to sharpen a knife.
I've bought 5. Gifted 3, use one , one for backup hanging on the pegboard in my shop. It's still on that pegboard (in the original packaging) . You'll never get someone who only buys premium blades to agree with you , but that's simply a pride thing. They don't want to feel like they wasted all that money. You're also right that 99% of the people who talk trash about OT won't ever put there benchmade or crk blades through these punishments. It's all about status and showing off the collection. "Ohh look at my expensive knifes that still look brand new after years. It's the equivalent of spending 1000s on snap on tools just for IG or fb. Grown ManBoys flexing blades.

Hey man I’m only 23 but just wanted to mention that I love the habit shirt. My grandma got me 4 or 5 of them and they’ve turned into my full time work shirts. Comfortable as all hell and the secret sunglasses cleaner is one of my most used tools 😂

I bought one. Needed a little adjustment and pivot lube, but it eventually started flipping nicely. But after a few weeks of fidget flipping, first one then both omega springs failed. I removed the scales hoping they were just out of position, but they were broken into 2 pieces. Overall, for me, this is a fail, even at $6.
You can make some new ones for literal cents using music wire. And the high carbon steels used for music wire (which is what is used when manufacturing high end springs) will last MUCH longer than whatever 300 series stainless bullshit they likely used for the springs. This is because, with springs, toughness matters much much more than corrosion resistance. If you aren’t severely neglecting your knife then the carbon steel omega springs will STILL fail from fatigue before they ever corrode enough to fail. Carbon springs can give you 50000-100000 actions on the spring while the shitty stainless steels can fail under 1000 actions.
@@TheBootyWrangler thanks for the suggestion. I think the originals might have been pinched during assembly. I’ve read QC is all over the place for Ozark and the springs were really tight when I first got it. A pinch point would definitely concentrate stress.
I bought four of these last year and all four had centered blades and opened easily and quickly! I just bought two American made Klein knives and both had non centered blades where they would rub the inner liner of the knife. One had a chipped scale. I have returned the one with the chipped scale and if I cannot fix the centering on the other one I will return it. I emailed Klein two days ago and am waiting for a reply. Are these Ozark Trail knives better than the Klein? No, not it goes to show you that you can buy inexpensive knives that do the job. The Klein knives were $64.00 each and these Ozark Trail ones were $6.00!

I picked up one from the flea market today new in package for $5, the guy had hundreds of Ozarks..he must have found them in the dumpster behind the store..lol.I loosened up the pivot to get that nice swing shut action..You also had me thinking you were going to run it over..OH..hell might as well mention just saw a video of a fixed blade that could cut through re-bar..he didn't show it..was military issued knife
Mine came perfectly centered unlike most Benchmades.
It was hit or miss with me. I bought 6 4 were centered. Had to adjust the other two

My only thing is this knife is getting so much love because it's the axis lock made its most affordable, yet any OTF under 200 is ridiculed

As history continues these tests become less and less impressive and cheaper and cheaper knives begin to pass them. despite all of the horrible things in the world it is still a beautiful time to be alive. tell me: at what point in history were things around the world EVER gravy? Never I might say.

Yeah its hit and miss. In my area I went to 4 different WM stores none had any of the 2022 knives for 3 weeks. Finally my closest store got them in 2 days ago, and I grabbed 3.
These things are flying off the shelf. They had one left at my Walmart and that is only because I hid a few a couple days ago.
