- You won't believe what they catch here!!! Check out my awesome new fish fishing destination: Okinawa, Japan. I am apart of the the United States Military so I can be stationed anywhere in the world, currently I am stationed in beautiful Okinawa, Japan. Okinawa is known as one of the few places you can catch mahi-mahi (dolphin/dorado) from shore! In today's video I try my hand at catching one and talk through where the channel is headed in the future.

Stationed there twice, 6 months in '88 and 6 months in '90 at Camp Hansen both times. Scuba diving was awesome!!! Also hotter than Hades in the summer!!! Tight lines Young Marine!!!!!
I used to live there because my dad was in the military and I recommend finding these Japanese charter captain trips with other people from the base. It’s like a 100$ per person but when you go out it’s non stop mahi and tuna fishing all day long. I loved doing it when I was a child. My dad was stationed in Kadena Air Force Base and he was in a small fishing group where they always had trips going on. Also most captains allow you to troll (at least the ones I went with) and you have a good chance for wahoo or even a marlin. Anyways enjoy Okinawa and fishing off the rocks that’s something I never got to do cause I was too young. Love your videos and support any content you push out. Tight Lines

Was stationed at Kadena in the mid 90's. Used to catch all kinds of pelagics on and offshore. Great food, great weather, great people, and great fishing.

Where is this fishing spot ?
Looking to travel from Hong kong to Okinawa for a weeks exploring , and shore casting, hard lure , and jigs, would love some advice on gear to bring ( in HK I use Zenaq mothos M with 6 k Twinpower pe 2.5 and Zenaq H with 8 k saltiga . I’ve never been to Japan, so advice on the best time of year to shore cast, and species that can be caught , and size would be great. All my fishing is catch and release .

Interesting location. Why not try pitching a GT Popper or stickbait like the MorningTide boys do? Looks like an ideal location for GT's or other topwater-eating pelagics. Your Stella would be able to handle it, I'm sure. Less sure about the rod though, but it seems good enough.

Mahi don’t actually come in because off the depth. Here in Greece we catch them on very shallow areas even in 5 feet of water as they feed on little sardines and needlefish..nice vid btw!

That’s awesome! Cabo is another place to catch mahi from the beach. I’ve seen them jumping but needed a surf rod and had a 7’. Good luck and thank you for your service!

There is a marina there somewhere that I've seen guys catch tuna from shore. Camp Hansen has some cool spear fishing if you go out to the reef area. Careful of the Jellies though. There are some really bad ones there.

Gee Ryan, the military sent me to an exotic locale as well - Nebraska. I've lived most of my life within 50 miles of the ocean (now within 1/4 mile), so that was a first. My AF wing in Nebraska did keep a couple of planes at Kadena AB on Okinawa, but I never got out there.

Depending on where you are, i've caught from tiny pufferfish to stingrays on squid in japan

Loaded question. I like them equally if used for the proper application. Look out for a review video in the near future on a bunch of Super Spinners.

Sorry I think I was unfair Washington DC was a real dump and dangerous when I started to work there in 1962 Okinawa was safe but very poor and I did meet really nice people. During our escape and survivor training the local farmers would give us food and pineapples we would pay them a few dollars they were so happy they didn't want to take it they had big hearts.Salute my friend thank you for your service ,, are you stationed at Naha ?

@@RyanMorie yeah camp Fuji is a little different, butt Fuji have a large Lake with black bass, with those telescopic rods you can fish for brook trout. I have a trophy trout I caught that my buddies had inked. There is a trout paid lake near Fuji also. They have rainbow, brown trout.
