  • Disclaimer: I'm not a mechanic. I'm a do-it-yourself, knuckle dragging wrench turner. This is my daughter's 2015 Chevy Spark. I noticed antifreeze in the driveway and figured out is was the Radiator Reservoir Tank. The part was about $60-$80 at the local parts store (out of stock), so I opted to get it on Amazon for $26.99 to save some cash. I got it the next day, and then did the repair. Walmart was also the only place that I could find the recommended GM antifreeze. Links are below. Hope this helps someone, and please hit the like and subscribe button.

    Love this! Mine has the break in the exact same place. I want to try to do it myself, but the bottom hose looks a little hard to get to. Just wondering if you had to bleed the air out of the hoses or add more coolant to the radiator? TIA

    • @Hipiam
      @Hipiam  26 днів тому +1

      Do the job when the car is cool. Remove the cap. Bottom hose may be the tough, but just take your time. I added a tiny bit of coolant.

    Replaced my 2013 reservoir twice so far. Leaked from same exact place as yours both times. Seems to last 4-6 years before it fails

    Mine broke the same place. This is a poorly engineered part and should be recalled. It was only 4 or 5 years old. I bought a new OEM one for less than half what Chevy was going to charge me on Amazon. I asked both the dealership and Chevy direct to replace it as it shouldn't have cracked it properly engineered - their response was, "it's plastic, what do you expect" and they refused to even give me a discount. I am now replacing the second one. This one cracked along the bottom. Wish I could find an aftermarket part to replace it with.

    What's that little plastic "hose" pointing down that remains without connection? I'm guessing it's where the eventual fumes get pushed outside the reservoir?

    • @Hipiam
      @Hipiam  Рік тому

      It's a vent/overflow for safety.

    hi, my car coolant is boiling i did change this thought it’s leaking. but still the same problem. please help 😢

    • @Hipiam
      @Hipiam  6 місяців тому

      I don't understand you question that well. Your coolant will get hot and boil in the radiator when the car is started and warms up. If you changed the overflow reservoir that I made the video about; and it is still leaking fluid, it must be coming from another location (ie. leaking radiator, radiator hose, blown seal, etc.). It may be time to take it to a mechanic.

    This is invaluable to me. My coolant is leaking badly and the check engine light is now on. (Not driving it since it came on. It’s been a mystery as to a leak (not noticed fluid in driveway or elsewhere), but now I can check and see if that piece is broken. My reservoir was replaced 5 or 6 years ago by my mechanic ex SIL but it had visible cracking. Do you know what the metal part is behind and under the tank? It runs upwards behind it and then under the reservoir. Mine looks weird like a part of it is missing (the piece left looks like a faucet instead of a line and has thread marks). I am thinking maybe it is the line to the wipers? My fluid to wipers does not work either. ( I have just put up with the inconvenience of that.) I watched my SIl change this and I am handier than many women/have the tools and I’m desperate and poor and I am considering trying to do this myself. It took him 15 minutes and I don’t want to pay ridiculous labor charges for this. Thanks also for parts info.

    About to embark on this with my spouse's 2014 Chevy spark - ordering what I believe to be the same reservoir you got from Amazon. How's it been holding up? Do you think it's as good as the more expensive part from the auto center? Thanks for taking the time to film this!
