utmost respect for filming in such an uncomfrtable environment, and surrounded by people!!! I had no idea there was actually a petition going on, hopefully i'm still in time, i'm on it!
Love those luxury lie down seats. That comment was hilarious, I am amazed nobody pissed themselves laughing. Cant believe someone fainted, you could not of asked for anything better for this video. Brilliant work SIR. balls of steel doing this vlog
On the valleys line I had a row for not activating my e-ticket prior to boarding. Yesterday like a good boy I did as I was told and activated it on the platform... true to form... three minutes later.... train cancelled and ticket wasted. Have also been accused previously of re-using an old e-ticket which obviously turned out to be a system fault.
I work a a dispatcher at Shrewsbury and a lot of problems aren't down to us. The valleys line is under restoration as we improve it for faster services. I would blame Network Rail for these problems. Also you were riding the old stock and we now run faster, longer services.
"we now run faster, long services" err what...? a Shrewsbury dispatcher isn't necessarily going to know what the service on the Cardiff valleys lines is like...
I had the pleasure of being on this train with you Tuesday, as they had cancelled all morning trains on the Bargoed/Rhymney line!! SO after adding an extra 15 minute drive from one station to another, we then ended up delayed! You certainly made the journey slightly more entertaining. Great review :)
Arriva Trains Wales will cease to operate the Wales and Borders franchise in October 2018 when the new Transport for Wales (operated by KeolisAmey) takes over with many service improvements and the entire replacement of the fleet by 2024 (starting in 2019), half of which will be made in Newport, South Wales (for 2022-23 introduction) at a new factory.
I was on this train from Aberdare to Cardiff Queen Street... And it was packed after the fourth stop. Delays every evening as well. Then you get people waiting for other trains hopping on first and then you miss your train home. Arriva dont seem to care. Emailed them and they want more details. I've given them a play by play already.
Stu’s Reviews it certainly is! I don't understand their logic behind putting two coaches on and make out it's more than enough. Lets hope we have better journeys going forward... Then with a different company from 2018 😂
Well done, Stu! Many viewers outside Wales may assume that this video shows conditions that only occur rarely, but actually it's fully representative of the conditions we face regularly.
I was on a train during the Iron Man Wales going to visit my elderly Dad, when the train arrived it was 10mins late and the conductor said it was because that's how long it took to get everyone on the two carriages. It was like the Calcutta Express bar the holding on metal bars to the exterior. Apparently that's the new upgrade Arriva trains are mooting for 2018 along with the luxury seats in ace of the luggage racks. A lot of people at Pembroke Dock had to be left behind due to lack of carriages.
Was stranded at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch because Arriva can't maintain their trains so it broke down at Llandudno Junction making 1 platform out of use and I had to get a bus to Bangor.
I was on a 2 carriage TFW 150 recently after WMR has their trains cancelled and I managed to get a seat but it was not great. I went from Hereford to Shrewsbury
Ah I should have mentioned these Pacer trains carriages are actually buses retrofitted to serve as a temporary stop gap until new trains were meant to arrive in the 1970s. Sorry for the wiki link this comment will probably hit your spam box en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacer_(train)
they're not "buses retrofitted", they were new build bus bodies that had never seen road chassies / wheels / tyres, only tie-wrapped to freight wagon underframes.
When I was younger was about 9pm with my friend and his mother and wanted to go back to Llanelli from Swansea got on the train and showed the conductor the ticket he said it was the write train 4 stops later we were in Bridgend and we had to get off and get a GWR train back to Swansea and get a diffrent train back to Llanelli witch took about an exter 2 hours
Thank you for sharing this honest review. From a frustrated passenger, currently standing by the rickety doors of a peak-time, 2 carriage train from Cardiff to Rhymney. Send help!
My worst train jony was when I went to the air show and the train had 1 coch and there was at leet 40 people standing up and the train was stopping at all the stations
Why is it that people don’t drive instead of taking that route? Is is just the price of parking in Cardiff - or is the traffic into Cardiff pretty awful too?
Nadia Worlock I see. An hour for 18 miles or so on the train is very slow going as well isn’t it! I suppose with driving you potentially have to contend with trying to find a parking space, as well as the parking cost...
The A470 isn’t much better… as Nadia said, it takes a long…long time on that road, and although its less cramped in the car, you’ll spend more in petrol just queuing for that long! (on top of parking)!
The Pembrokeshire lines are actually quite nice because the trains tend to only be a couple of minutes late and they're completely empty. Even when I went to Manchester for my grandmother's funeral, throughout the 8 hour journey there was almost no one on the train except for a few stops after Cardiff and Swansea. The only bad experience I've ever had on an Arriva train was when I lost my wallet.
I was coming back from liverpool lime st and caught my ariva at crewe. As i got on the 2 car train there were alreadly no seats this got worse further along the trip to cardiff the isle was packed with people luckily i had a seat that was reserved for someone but luckily they couldnt make it to their seat. Once we got to newport lots of people pilled off so as i made my way to cardiff i then changed for a gwr to swansea then at swansea were the gwr terminated i changed for a 1 car ariva to my station whitland again that 1 car train was full. As i passed through carmarthen on a sideing there they were all the ariva trains there must of been at least 20 extra cars there. Also i heared on the crewe to cardiff that that train was surpossed to have an extra car well done ariva
Their toilets were also infamously rank! Under the new franchise, they have improved by leaps and bounds over the past two years with the suction flush toilets and walk-in cubicles... About bloody time as it seems like other parts of the U.K have had those toilets for years, but they seem so "hi-tech" and alien to us. Went into one coming home on a train from Barnsley in 2016 and I felt like I was walking into The Tardis! They even had carpeted trains! I shouldn't really be impressed by such things, but sadly I was.
Thank god it is finally over, Arriva Train Wales. Their train service is absolutely abysmal and their customer service is non-existent. Train is as about as fast as you cycling. And don't even get me started on the valley train routes and its inflation of ticket prices, absolutely disgusted.
Arriva north western is shit worst experience is when it TOOK 28 MINUTES INBETWEEN MANCHESTER PICCADILLY TO MANCHESTER OXFORD ROAD so we missed our connection from Oxford road to manchester Victoria so we had to get two trams across manchester and we where back home an hour later than we should of (this message is .for ATW and ANW ) 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

Come to watch this a little late, honestly so true, under TfW it is well, a little better. No longer Pacers as seen in this video but it's still mostly 2 coaches, only a matter of time now until this will become more rare fully as newer 3-4 coaches are introduced.
Should wait and see how Keolis amey will perform when they have the new 15 year contract from October 14. I seen the new trains but is it still enough to stop the over crowding? Answer - I think it is. Can’t wait to see the pacers scrapped or whatever they do with em cause they are just rusty old and leaky buses on train tracks.
Once at aberdare station, a drugged up smack head came running up to the station covered in blood at 2pm, he freaked out and I got on the train to see a heavily pregnant marines woman helping, emergency services were at the car park, then he shoved the woman flying and the train drove off...
Arriva cant run any rail service, look at the Northern Services that are overcrowded & London Overground services that are late during rush hour yet Tfl still allow them to run these services
And think you pay for the privilege to be treated like cattle on rolling stock! Great honest review. You have a great screen presence too. Good on you.

And you’ll be stuck with them for the foreseeable future! 😱. Fortunately for us here in Wales, they’ve withdrawn from the tender for the next franchise, which means come the end of the year, they’ll be out! 🎉🎉🎉

Most trains on the Crewe to Shrewsbury line is crowed pre covid times and they are one car most of the time.
Travelling from Cornwall to Portsmouth on a Sunday afternoon/evening, now there’s an adventure.

You will! Gonna give them time to rebrand the trains first. Give them at least a small chance... 😂
So if ATW goes kiss goodbye to railway in Arriva, or get a First Train Wales

Signalling Problems that is down to Network Rail
Rolling Stock not the Train Operating Companys as there don't own the trains as the train are lese out from a leasing companies
