    So the issue with the gesture-less and glitching trackpad was simply due to not properly installing the Framework Driver Bundle! Thank you for pointing it out 😊

      5:01 please don't peel off the RAM covers like that, they protect the chips on the memory sticks from scratches.

    7:35 Quite note here, Framework actually already has CAD files on GitHub for the Expansion Cards (ports), so it’s even easier to get started with creating your own

    Been using my Framework laptop for about 8 months in Linux (Debian 12) with no issues. Usually use a mouse, but had to use the trackpad recently, as I needed the USB-A port my mouse plugs into for an external DVD drive. The Linux trackpad drivers seem bombproof. Took me about a day to suss out the various gestures I could use and it's now about as smooth as using the mouse. Assembly was very easy, but I've built desktop systems off and on for 25 years, so know what the components are. I appreciated how nicely the components fit together and the ease of assembly/disassembly.

    Could it be that you haven't installed the Framework 13 Drivers? I think that could be the answer why you trackpad doesn't have the gestures

    5:27 in the future, I would recommend disconnecting the battery before changing any other components, to prevent damage to the components.
    That red LED blinking as you work on the laptop indicates that you've not done so.

      @Phoenix84118 4 місяці тому

      There's actually a label on the battery connector that says you don't have to disconnect it.

    • @jasongronn6764
      @jasongronn6764 4 місяці тому

      @@Phoenix84118 Yea. I didn't have the laptop yet back then, so I hadn't known. However, you're instead supposed to disable the battery from BIOS before doing anything..

    I appreciate that they include the instructions on every single component, but also design in such a way that even somebody with no idea what they're doing can piece it together intuitively. Almost every company will do one or the other but not both.

    I absolutely love this video. I like to see Framework from the perspective of a customer who doesn't know how to build computers. It was awesome to see you build it without the guide, that must have been a headache. It's nice to see you resolved your problems and got the driver bundle. Thanks for the video! Your Windows 11 can be activated by simply purchasing a license from either Framework, Amazon, Microsoft for around $100-$150 depending on if you choose home edition or professional. You can purchase it from OEM key retailers like G2A for about $25. I have been using those keys for years and haven't experienced issues.

    Hi Taliyah, I'm thinking about getting one of these and I appreciate your first time non-expert perspective on the whole setup experience. It looks like a lot of fun. I think I'll be trying one of these out. ❤

    I don't know if you get to keep the Framework or not, but if you do, the expansion cards loosen up after you remove them a few times. After a lot of experimentation the 'best' way I found to remove them is to use both thumbs and hold down the release button with the knuckle of my index finger. It's awkward, but it works. I broke a few nails before I worked out my technique.
    Did you use the paper wrapping to make the cookies you showed? Was that what you were washing and using to bake? Is it oven safe? I don't think it's wax paper but it could be parchment paper (which is also used for baking).
    Thanks for the video it was fun to watch. Good luck in college.

    Good job on the build and setup! I own and love an 11th generation Intel Framework 13. I'm not a big laptop person but the reconfigurable ports and repairability and upgrade potential sold me. I use Linux on it and it works wonderfully but haven't tried Windows on it (nor do I plan to).

    9:00 never use webcam cover on your MacBook. The extra thickness added by the cover can cause the screen to crack and cause lines in the lcd as well as a high repair cost.

    nice video! its always refreshing to see a video like this from someone that isnt a major tech reviewer comfortable with the ins and outs of a machine and its hardware. im looking to get my own framework laptop soon :)

    Yo you should have installed Windows 11 Pro, also go to trackpad settings and disable tap to drap, that is why your trackpad was glitching out.

    You got a DIY framework without an OS, but ended up installing Windows. I call missed opportunity to try out Linux, specially given how well supported it is by Framework. Nice video :)

    Nice work kid. I think that kids should know, not only how to use a product, but a bit how it works. The Framework 13 can grow with you thru school, with upgrades and updates. I don´t know how many times a said to my self: "I like this notebook I use, but I need to upgrade, as I´m using it for work." So much avoidable e waste. Hope it serves you well. I will be buying the FW 16 at the end of this year because my current laptop is becoming obsolete after four years. I build my desktops for years, and this is what I missed with current laptops. Modularity, upgradeability and reparability. This way I can skip the bulky desktop, and work with only one upgradeable, repairable device. It´s good to see that children are becoming more aware of economy, ecology and a more rational consumerism.

    Not bad for a newcomer to DIY computers! You don't have to activate windows but it will lock you out of some specific features. I personally use Linux based operating systems on my computers. They are a lot easier to install.

    I never saw somebody washing parchment paper. I tend to use the same paper multiple times if I cook similar food, but I might only throw away crumbs if I feel like I'm not a complete savage that day
    I love your The Great Tech Bake Off show ;)

    Since you were living in the walled garden of MacOS, where Apple decides what's best for you, you're gonna need to readjust, relearn and adapt to how things are done in the Windows (and maybe Linux). Good luck!!
