sadly, the reality is, a single heartfelt conversation with one person isn't going to magically make the yeears of trauma, abuse and pain go away and isn't gonna immediately make todoroki completely okay with his fire powers.
One thing I like that the English dub does better than the Japanese is that Bakugo calls Todoroki "Icy Hot" instead of "Half and Half". Also Cliff Chapin does an amazing job portraying Bakugo's meltdown at the end of the fight. I highly suggest you check it out.
Yeah, Bakugo's insecurity is a thing that gets overlooked or not even noticed by many, so he gets a lot of hate (like you said, it's fair and his insecurity isn't an excuse). You will like where the story takes him Alicia
I am a Bakugo hater (or at least was at that point of the story) and I absolutely noticed his insecurities... but that is not an excuse to bully and outright injure other people. Remember that because of his insecurities, he already seriously injured Midoriya, to the point where he would have been sent to the hospital, if it wasn't for Recovery Girl's quirk, among MANY other things. Bakugo should have been sent to therapy years ago. Also he needs to be punished when he does something bad. Like beating up his class mates, or putting hands on an opponent after the match ended for example. And yet he gets away with everything time and again without even being scolded, much less actually punished, so it's only natural he would act like he can get away with everything. Mind you, I think the majority of the blame is on his parents and teachers, not Bakugo himself, but even so it often infuriates me, how he acts and how he is always getting away scots free, barring some comedic pseudo-punishment like in the medal ceremony...

@@Norbert_Sattlertf you mean sent to recovery girl? It was quirk training ofc you get hit. Genius you saw allmight in season 2 body bakugo. He literally shot bakugo into a building and then slammed him using midoriya. Grab his head and smash on the ground. Thats what training is for. You legit saw midoriya nuke the building on their first fight. Bakugo doesn't go far enough to injure deku so he gets healed from recovery girl. Most of the time, deku goes to recovery girl cuz he broke them himself . Literally in the uraraka ep you saw people balming bakugo for being rough with a girl when that girl was bout to drop a meteor shower on him. And also no one complained bout todoroki freezing the whole stadium. No one blamed todoroki? Cuz its a battle. The only times bakugo should have been disciplined was during his middle school and he got like the worst teacher and friends. While deku had no friends. Bakugo's experience in ua is just brand new for him. No need for therapy cuz he got to meet good friends like kirishima and kaminari. And now has good teacher role model aizawa. Large portion of bakugo's insecurity comes from his past friends and teachers. Many don't understand why bakugo wanted to fight midoriya in season 3. Its literally for bakugo to check if he is weak or anyone except him wouldn't be kidnapped. Even though his mother loves him. The first thing she said to him after he got kidnapped was that he got napped cuz he was weak.
@@denji3397 he fking bullied deku since they were kid. I’m surprised deku is not killing himself so why tf are u def a fking bully at this point of the story?
I heard somewhere that, in the manga, there's a panel showing Todoroki's mom trying to use her freezing quirk over the wound made by the boiling water. Boiling water wouldn't make a permanent scar like that, so the theory is that Todoroki's scar ACTUALLY came from a FROST BURN made by Todoroki's mom changing the temperature of the wound so drastically.
Idk if u noticed, but it’s theorized that Bakugou was also experiencing PTSD from the sludge villain during the award ceremony, since he was completed immobilized and couldn’t speak. That’s what adds up to his despair.
9 am is now my fav part of the day (as Ive noticed these are basically scheduled for 9 am every morning) Also, I love how well you read Bakugo (Kacchan), so many people just see him act like a dick and think thats all he is, but you see through him like a plane of glass and I love it
It’s 8 am for me and ngl, sometimes I sit here for like 5 or 10 minutes waiting for it to be 8. If I plan on doing something in the day, I usually wait until after I’ve finished Alicia’s reactions
I always related to bakugo's ideology in this episode, I always hated when my friends would "go easy on me" in a sport or video game because it feels like I'm not worth your best efforts
This final does not look like one and that is precisely the goal. But now you have the top 3 characters to follow closely with Izuku, Shoto and Bakugo. It's quite classic that the story revolves around three characters (plus an adult in general), we have the example with Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke and Kakashi or even Yuji, Megumi, Nobara and Gojo in Jujutsu, there you have your trio, but it is not set in stone and given the number of characters, you will have multiple combinations of trio.
I do a lot of sympathy for Boku (explosive 🧨) The idea of being considered such a prodigy and then instantly going to a high school and not even being popular has to be rough
11:18 GUYS... IS BAKUGO SMILING???? I've seen this several times but never notice that... I feel like he is happy thta he is making Todoroki use his fire powers
"Don't run in the halls." "Keep your voice low." "Wear a mask." Iida discards and forgets all of these rules in the face of his brother in trouble. I love those details.
I loved the way they handled Bakugo in this arc. First, Bakugo’s confidence at the start. In a normal anime, someone being a cocky dickhead like that is obviously being set up to fail. Instead, he claimed he was gonna come out on top and actually did, proving that he has the bite to back up his bark. On top of that, this arc also showed off just how smart he is, and how complex he can be. He’s rude and harsh to everyone, but that’s his way of showing respect. Uraraka vs Bakugo is an excellent example of this. He acknowledged her strength, and so he went all out against her despite jeers from the crowd. He constantly kept up the facade of attacking nonstop aggressively and recklessly, but as you can see in both his fights against Kirishima and Tokoyami that nonstop aggression is what helps him figure out his opponent’s weakness while keeping them on the defensive. His fight against Todoroki shows that while he does of course want to prove that he’s the best, he also wants his classmates to push themselves as well. Had Todoroki used his fire, he had a very good chance of winning. It’s as he said, he can’t expect to win if he doesn’t use his full power. He’s such a complex and interesting character who acts almost like a complete mirror to Deku while still being similar to him in many ways, and I hate how so many people instantly write him off as just a hotheaded prick because they only see the “DIE DIE DIE” part of his personality.
As someone who was bullied relentlessly in elementary school so much that I needed to change schools, I will never...ever...EVER like Bakugo. I am caught up with the manga and know everything there is to know about him, but F him. It drives me absolutely crazy how much love he gets and how popular his character is. He told Deku to KILL HIMSELF in the first episode and put him down for a solid 10 years before that for god's sake! I feel that DEEP in my soul.
I love how Bakugo is all mad about Todoroki taking his seat only realize that Todoroki is in the right place, so Bakugo immediately zeroes in on something else to be mad about. Then Todoroki gets him REALLY mad without any idea he pushed a big red button. Kind of sad we didn't get to see the second and third years in their fights, but that would have eaten up an entire season and required tripling the number of characters. That would be agonizing. Deku may have started some healing of Todoroki's emotional scars, but they run DEEP, so it's not going to be solved in a day. But Bakugo doesn't know. He can't understand what's going on in Shoto's head. Heck, Deku only partly knows. He just sees Todoroki not giving him his all. Annnnnd now the whole country can see Bakugo as a feral rage monster. A snarling beast. Tangent, man I WISH we had good commuter rail in the states. Like, even Amtrack is more expensive than just getting a plane. And if you can go faster for cheaper, of course you're taking the plane! Defeating the entire appeal of trains, which is cheap efficiency! Dad Might is trying, but he is not the person to calm Bakugo down. Normally Iida would respect the "no running in the halls," but he's scared. Good to know about why the rule stands. Stain worked Tensei over hard. Yeah, I will agree on chastising Iida for not masking. Mom's doing better than last we saw her, but that bar was on the floor. Ochaco get a happy surprise party with her parents. Not extravagant, but full of love. Also, her dad looks huge. Lies only last so long, but they can be useful tools. I think the dub had Kacchan yelling "die" at the germs repeatedly. Also, I do think the Dub is good.
Damn man, Bakugo's such a worrywart. I just want to smack the top of his head, while yelling that he's stupid and should stop comparing to everyone, because he's already stronger and precious and important than lots of people, and he shouldn't compare him to none but himself, and always strive to surpass the himself of the past, rather than others, and maybe a bear hug. Yes. Maybe breaking his ribs with a good, warmhearted hug could ease his anxiety a little. Of course, someone should do it with RecoGal nearby
Fun fact bakugo should of had the best chance against todorokis fire because bakugo constantly has to handle the heat from his own explosions the only problem he would face is when todoroki decided to combine his fire and ice
Horikoshi's god-level writing is on full display in this arc. So many tournament arcs reinforce that the characters we follow are awesome and highlight their strong points, but this one shows their failures. Not one of the three main boys here is leaving happy. Izuku was unable to fulfill All Might's wish of debuting as the next Symbol of Peace. Todoroki wasn't able to commit to either shutting his dad out or embracing his flames. Bakugo wasn't able to get an indisputable win. They all had to do a lot of self-reflection and growing after this, it was never a celebration of how far they've come, but an acknowledgement of how far they have left to go. So this arc buffs the future seasons SO MUCH as a result, because the unsatisfactory ends they all got push them to new heights. 10/10, truly breathtaking.
4:27 I love that you can see that about him, so many people don't look beyond the surface level of what's happening. For some reason many people don't understand that the world is not just black and white, there is a by gray area, not everything is either 100% wrong or right
(2:25 the way he sways so far in each direction, show us outside the top-down view) 2:31 the same thing on the same day hours apart I love the unintentional in sync It was before he used his broken finger again, when Shouto was like "I'm gonna end this now" and Izuku said 4:50 ikr (Right after -) Hanbun yarou 12:05 Yesss S tier reactor thank you 21:17 The _first_ rule break. 27:08 she's pulling his cup away so he won't accidentally knock it over
The thing is, it's left now up to the imagination. I personally am of the opinion of that even if Todoroki used his fire, he would've still lost 100%. No matter how you slice it in my head, Bakugo was the stronger character at this point in the series to me when I watched for the first time. But he just can't PROVE it to himself. There will always be that asterisk, and why this is a debatable topic and not a FOR SURE answer.
He's definitely the smartest fighter, it would just come down to whether his explosion, Shoto's flash fist, or Deku's punch could break through. Seeing as they are portrayed evenly I agree with you.
Regarding the Jujutsu Kaisen Movie footage, perhaps you can ask your fiancé to bring it on a thumbdrive next time he visits you? Though regardless of what you'd like to do on that end, I'd be very excited to watch your reactions to season 2 once it's out.
Sometimes I wonder how the story would go if Horikoshi used the original personality for Bakugo where he was happy all the time instead. I know the original design for Iida made him look more jerkish, so I think that's where it came from before being pushed into the current angry boy.
Bakugo’s drive to win is toxic α lot of the time, but you have to respect that he wants every victory to be on his own merit, which is why he’s able to constantly improve so much.
you will really enjoy watching the second season of jjk i think you should but that’s only if you are able to do so we don’t want you pushing yourself a lot
I think this was better dub because he says whatever your feeling, your past none of that matters show everyone your trying to destroy me” because it shows that despite all his issues in his own anger filled way he is telling him you won’t beat me unless your giving it your all and you can’t be the best without giving it your all
Alicia: I thought somthing possesed her parents! Oh. (Sigh in relief) Me: They were possesed by something: Love... Crazy Hyper Active Love but love none the less.
Bakugo is definitely not a “sweet baby boy.” Is he clearly screwed up and with emotional issues including inferiority AND superiority complexes? Absolutely.
rewatching this with your commentary did i just realise how much bakugo and endeavor are pretty much alike with the only difference is endeavor already looking for a successor and his generation was when quirk marriage was a common thing and bakugo lived during such practice is frowned upon.
While I love what it all means for tve characters, I do find it kinda weird that the narrative acts like Todoroki could have won if he had used his fire. Because, like, objectively speaking, wouldn't using only ice be the best thing against Bakugo. His quirk uses his sweat, so he's specifically weaker when he's cold.
I do feel bad for Bakugo's insecurity, but it doesn't make me like him (I like "the character" though, as in he's well written and acted and all that), I would never like anyone so rude and crude to everyone around them regardless of why they are, nor tolerate his constant threats for that matter if it were me he kept saying he'd beat up or kill (even if that's of course not truly his intent) or if I was a teacher meant to turn kids into heroes and heard/saw him behaving like that. Honestly my biggest problem is with the school and parents when it comes to Bakugo though, he should be getting therapy for his insecurities and anger management, not "weapons training". It comes off as extremely irresponsible to me to be training this clearly volatile (they felt it neccessary to chain him up like Hannibal Lecter xD) kid with an extremely dangerous ability in how to use it, without also paying appropriate attention to his mental health, ostensibly just leaving it up to his "friends" to set him straight. I get how that works for the show though, obviously, since said friends are the focus.
I totally agree with you. It wouldn't feel good having someone like Bakugo in real life whose insecurities make everything revolve around him, even other people's own issues like Todoroki's trauma in this episode.
the main character may be Midoriya, but really this is the Bakugo and Todoroki character development show. not saying midoriya doesn't get any development but....well....you'll get what i mean.
Bakugou is overrated as F, i like complex characters, but Bakugou development is so slow even though he's the second main character, he just keeps being annoying and Deku being fascinated by him is wtf. Also the teachers being very bad at teaching, being strict with the golden bully boy should've happended.
@@idk-ye7urslow? This whole show till season 6 is like not even one year. But he is indeed a complex character cuz clearly you don't understand him. Nothing excuses what he did but it just explains what he did. Middle school teacher didn't care when bakugo was standing and screaming stuff. His friends only exist to boost his ego while deku was all alone. Gabe him the impression that thats how its supposed to be and his parents are even worse. Now is the neat part, he comes to Ua meets real friends kirishima and kaminari. Meets real teacher aizawa. Deku who never had friends is the most popular in his class. This is what that set the stage, bakugo finding the what it means to be a hero and why things are different in Ua. When compared to deku who was born pure cuz he is mc. Bakugo is spoiled rotten by everyone . The first thing his mother says when he returned after kidnapping was that he got kidnapped cuz he was weak. So that makes sense why he fought deku, to see if he really was weak. True he is insecure and that doesn't excuse what he did but a lot of that explains why he is like this. He is underrated for the sole fact that people don't understand him. I like him the same amount i like subaru and thorfinn.
@@denji3397 Except that this "real teacher" Aizawa, still let Bakugo get away with near enough everything, only stopping him from beating up Deku on a single occasion, but then just leaving it at stopping him, without even really scolding him, much less giving him some proper punishment. And that is what's the most frustrating for me. Bakugo can do whatever the hell he likes and is never properly punished. The worst that ever happened to him, it this comedic pseudo-punishment he got just now. Why isn't a single one of his teachers setting up a parent teacher meeting with the Katsukis?
@@Norbert_Sattler Get away with what though? Since coming to UA Bakugou already changed, in fact he changes after Deku saves him from the sludge villain, he stops picking on Deku way back then. His bad attitude is one thing, but he's that way with everyone, adults included, it's not like he is bullying Deku any more. The one time Bakugou is stopped from physically going after Deku - works. He doesn't do it again. And if they did arrange a parent teacher meeting what would they say to Mitski? Omg how dare he act exactly like you do? Sure, that'd help. Better they adress the bad influence that she is, but what teachers would do that, considering it could just make things worse? Not to mention, Mitsuki could turn it around on them for their assault of him during the Sports Festival. There's only so much they can do to help him relax and unlearn his bad behaviour. Heck, I'm more concerned that they consistently let Mineta off with sexual assault. Then again, they have Midnight on the staff. And they show Bakugou that physical punishment is all well and good when they do it - forcing him into chains to be paraded in front of cameras like his consent means nothing. There's plenty to criticise about UA, but not setting up a parent teacher meeting with the Katsuki's isn't one of them. Imo
Gonna be honest, the first time i watched this episode i was laughing at bakugou getting mad before midnight sedated him, i knew he was just a ball of insecurities and it was a bad moment for him, BUT i couldnt care for him coz he was an suicide baiting asshole to deku, so yeah, haha.
21:12 Alicia, this anal-retentive rules lawyer running in the halls despite being told not to is a HUGE screaming red flag as to his current emotional state. It is the big tip-off of how much his brother means to him and how f**ked up he is about this. That ain't just running in the halls: it's a canary in the coal mine...
About bakugo; I enjoy his character and think that he’s necessary as a part of deku’s journey, but I absolutely hate him as person. All his life people have told him he was amazing and destined for greatness yet he is so in his own head he treats those who call themselves his friends like shit and It gets annoying when that’s all he really contributes to the show besides 2 moments I can think of across 6 seasons. He has his moments but he always returns to being just a shitty person.
I'm not really convinced it's from a place of insecurity. I think Bakugo has been so focused on All Might's strength, becoming stronger himself and being the strongest that he just doesn't understand that strength isn't everything to being a hero.
I think the only person I dislike in this show is the little perv fellow. I mean there are characters where I dislike them due to their actions but I enjoy the way they are written and think they add a lot to the show so when I say dislike I mean I just straight up do not like the little hair guy that I can never recall the name of.
I don’t ever get why people hate Bakugo so much like Bruh he’s a child with insecurities like sure he’s a bully but that’s exactly why he is not justifying it just explains how he is. He shows love and care in his own way.

One thing I love about this arc is how it made a loss feel like a victory, and a victory feel like a loss.
The scene with bakugo brushing his teeth is one of my favorites in the whole show. That shit is hilarious to me for some reason.
Nah... He actually lost to his dad in an Agni Kai.
(kidding)
My mother literally has a scar like that from when a pot of coffee fell on her when she was a child.
Idk if u noticed, but it’s theorized that Bakugou was also experiencing PTSD from the sludge villain during the award ceremony, since he was completed immobilized and couldn’t speak. That’s what adds up to his despair.
9 am is now my fav part of the day (as Ive noticed these are basically scheduled for 9 am every morning)
Also, I love how well you read Bakugo (Kacchan), so many people just see him act like a dick and think thats all he is, but you see through him like a plane of glass and I love it
It’s 8 am for me and ngl, sometimes I sit here for like 5 or 10 minutes waiting for it to be 8. If I plan on doing something in the day, I usually wait until after I’ve finished Alicia’s reactions
Mine's at 9 PM so the exact opposite of yours lol
Allmight is living Alicia’s dream right now going out there and giving all the babies their much needed hugs.
11:18 GUYS... IS BAKUGO SMILING???? I've seen this several times but never notice that... I feel like he is happy thta he is making Todoroki use his fire powers
I love how the Howitzer Impact is a move Bakugou made specifically to counter the Fire, he would've snuffed it out if Todoroki actually used it
"Don't run in the halls." "Keep your voice low." "Wear a mask." Iida discards and forgets all of these rules in the face of his brother in trouble.
4:27
I love that you can see that about him, so many people don't look beyond the surface level of what's happening.
For some reason many people don't understand that the world is not just black and white, there is a by gray area, not everything is either 100% wrong or right
(2:25 the way he sways so far in each direction, show us outside the top-down view)
2:31 the same thing on the same day hours apart
I love the unintentional in sync
It was before he used his broken finger again, when Shouto was like "I'm gonna end this now" and Izuku said
4:50 ikr
(Right after -)
Hanbun yarou
12:05 Yesss S tier reactor thank you
21:17 The _first_ rule break.
27:08 she's pulling his cup away so he won't accidentally knock it over
4:17 Todoroki's face when he kicks the table away 😂 like "I was using that"
Forgot for a second how much I love Tsu's hair style... And, both the outros in this season *chefs kiss*
Howitzer impact is fucking 10× cooler than any moves in MHA
It's up there, but there is one that blows it out of the water.
Bakugou is like a Pomeranian a bit
Regarding the Jujutsu Kaisen Movie footage, perhaps you can ask your fiancé to bring it on a thumbdrive next time he visits you? Though regardless of what you'd like to do on that end, I'd be very excited to watch your reactions to season 2 once it's out.
The English nickname bakugo has for todoroki is hilarious imo, he calls him IcyHot😂
Sometimes I wonder how the story would go if Horikoshi used the original personality for Bakugo where he was happy all the time instead. I know the original design for Iida made him look more jerkish, so I think that's where it came from before being pushed into the current angry boy.
Yeah I'm glad the author chose angry Bakugo instead of the happy one.
LMAO MY CAT JUST RAN ACROSS MY PHONE WHEB TODOROKIS MOM TURNED TO LOOK AT HIM AND REWINDED IT TEN SWCONDS
Bakugo calls Todoroki “Icy Hot” in the dub
You should hear what dub Bakugo calls Shoto. “Icy hot bastard!”
21:40 as a security guard who works at a hospital, I agree with that statement.
Bakugo’s drive to win is toxic α lot of the time, but you have to respect that he wants every victory to be on his own merit, which is why he’s able to constantly improve so much.
Bakugou is one of my fav ! Love ur reaction
you will really enjoy watching the second season of jjk i think you should but that’s only if you are able to do so we don’t want you pushing yourself a lot
Damn, they animated the mist in Iida's brother's rebreather.
Never forget that as crazy as bakugou is. He is legitimately the most smart and competent class A student.
Can we get a fucking W in the chat for Bakugo's VA in these Episodes?
Nobi his va got throat surgery too. Lol pretty shre its cuz he voices loud characters 😂
Forgot how good this episode really was.
Yeah we are interested in jjk
11:19 bro that line is ammaculate imma use that idk how but I will
I've heard it said that Bakugo is how Naruto at the start looks to everyone else in his class
Oh. (Sigh in relief)
Me: They were possesed by something: Love... Crazy Hyper Active Love but love none the less.
Pretty sure at 19:59 Eraserhead was flipping off Present Mic...
Yeah even at 5 Shoto was fully aware the only reason his mom did what she did was because of his father's "bullying" of his mom
Bakugo is definitely not a “sweet baby boy.” Is he clearly screwed up and with emotional issues including inferiority AND superiority complexes? Absolutely.
Todoroki is such a good boy indeed
rewatching this with your commentary did i just realise how much bakugo and endeavor are pretty much alike with the only difference is endeavor already looking for a successor and his generation was when quirk marriage was a common thing and bakugo lived during such practice is frowned upon.
hope you’re keeping well alicia
I think i have the same emotions as you because im tearing up everytime youre about to cry haha
An episode each day and that's not even the only show. We don't deserve you honey.
in the dub he calls him Icy Hott
While I love what it all means for tve characters, I do find it kinda weird that the narrative acts like Todoroki could have won if he had used his fire. Because, like, objectively speaking, wouldn't using only ice be the best thing against Bakugo. His quirk uses his sweat, so he's specifically weaker when he's cold.
Here's your algorithm comment, go off queen.
An All Might hug is the real prize.
Fun fact: Bakugou is the oldest kid in Class-A and Shoji (tentacle arms) is the youngest
The dub in this anime is prob the only dub that I could actually recommend.
Till this day Bakugo vs Germs is my favourite fight in MHA 😂
just so you know, the flames would have helped Bakugo win cus his explosions come from his sweat and heat makes people sweat more
I do feel bad for Bakugo's insecurity, but it doesn't make me like him (I like "the character" though, as in he's well written and acted and all that), I would never like anyone so rude and crude to everyone around them regardless of why they are, nor tolerate his constant threats for that matter if it were me he kept saying he'd beat up or kill (even if that's of course not truly his intent) or if I was a teacher meant to turn kids into heroes and heard/saw him behaving like that.
Just cuz a bully has his own problem doesn't excuse the torment that inflict on other. so no matter how insecure Kattchan is, I don't like him.
I couldn't agree more.
If you ever wanna know who bakugou is just watch how he reacts when he wins.
While I love bakugos voice actor in this show, I personally love his performance more as accelerator
YES YES Please do a JJK season 2 reaction, I've been enjoying these way too much!
He's my FAVORITE TOO!
...and finally caught up after a week of power outtage. Nice.^^
Thus concludes the tournament arc where no one truly wins lol.
And yeah the subtitles aren't the best in the first couple seasons of MHA.
ohh daamn yeah i would love to see your reaction jjk2 this season will be fire!!
i love this battle
I'm not really convinced it's from a place of insecurity. I think Bakugo has been so focused on All Might's strength, becoming stronger himself and being the strongest that he just doesn't understand that strength isn't everything to being a hero.
Will you be reacting to the seven deadly sins or did you watch that already
Alica would you react to Komi Can't Communicate? It's a good anime
