1 million Percent doesn't exist within mathematics. If they wanted to make it canon they would've said: "10,000x the Force at 100% Delware Detroit Smash" Which would've shatter his arm and possibly kills cities Far away from this location which can get his hero license revoked and possibly get him kicked out of UA for Causing Billions of dollars of damages to his surroundings. The creator confirmed that it's not actually 1,000,000%, it's just Deku hyping himself up to go beyond the pain and his current limiitations, given he is very tired and broken physically.
“Delaware Detroit Smash” has one of my favorite little details that took me way too long to notice bc I forgot that Delaware is what Deku named the finger flick smashes. So I didn’t realize he used the finger flicks to free his arm from the muscles before the detroit smash and always just thought he mashed two names together at random lol
You missed it, but yes the villain said Dekus name earlier because he recognized him from what Shigaraki told him and gave a picture of him. Thats also why he said he was going to torture and kill him, because Shigaraki told him to.
Right. I believe it's been said or at least implied that they had a list of all the heroes + students, with some given specific priorities - like specifically to kill Deku. Kota wasn't on the list because he's not officially there.
Torture was most definitely not on the docket, it's just a clear "if you find this guy, kill him" directive. I mean the entire episode and fight is about how this is NOT what the league cares about and JUST what Muscular wants to do. He wanted to play, so he did. If he hadn't played around and just fulfilled his/the league's job, then Deku would find a dead Kota and immediately get killed afterwards.

RE Kota's POV vs his Parent's death: I think it's more that everyone saying they died for a good cause correlated to him as the same as saying "it's a good thing they died", even if that's not exactly what people meant, he only saw people saying good about their dying. It likely led to him thinking that if it was good they died (to save others) then it must mean it was good they left him behind if it meant others were saved, so to a kid that would be very hurtful to think they meant less to their parents than other people since they chose to die instead of stay with him. :
This is a great episode for Deku's character, though it does also highlight a somewhat sad aspect about him. His fight with Muscular is the closest we've seen him to getting killed in a fight, and his potential last thoughts are regret about how his death would affect his mother and his guilt in disappointing All Might, with little personal fear for his own life. It does emphasize his selflessness, but also kind of shows that he doesn't put much personal value on his own life at this point, which is kind of a tragic mindset for someone his age.

It's going to be interesting to see how you handle the thematic changes throughout the seasons. Especially season 4 I believe. She's going to have to hydrate so much considering how much time she'll spend crying.
Here's a science-y explanation for the "1,000,000%" thing. The human body naturally limits its strength. However, in moments when you are under intense stress, your body will basically allow you to push beyond that limit it placed on itself, allowing you to perform feats you normally couldn't. Tl,Dr: he got an adrenaline rush that allowed his body to go "plus ultra"
6:24 I love when Alicia makes analyses like these because I can just go back in my mind and picture all the scenes that she’s talking about and it makes me see them in a whole different light sometimes
4:55 if you look closely, you can see the flames from Dabi's quirk were so powerful that it blows his left arm back. That is amazing attention to detail that shows that he released his flames with such intensity, that his arm can't take the recoil.
Ah, paused right in the middle of the goosebump-inducing, show-defining end of the episode. I must've watched that fade to the colored manga panel with "boku no hero" like 50 times by now and here it seems like "huh, whose hero? who cares, muh boy". Really hoping a certain scene on the horizon doesn't get the same treatment.
Heh, Salty Licorice is very popular treat here in Finland. We even got Licorice beer and ice cream. Then again, it might be reason no one wants to invade us, we put them to eat them, as well as Mämmi (traditional Finnish Easter dessert made from rye flour) 😜
It has pretty widespread popularity here in Norway as well, and Sweden I would assume. Salty liquorice was my favorite candy as long as I can remember, definitely ever since I was a child. Even the strongest, saltiest of it. Still love it today. And black licorice ice cream is the BEST 🤤🤌
3:00 Black licorice is delicious, and the salty stuff is really good for a small snack. It isn't something that you much on like popcorn, it hangs around for a while and you savor it. As a late 20's guy, I fully accept that I have old people tastes for candy though.

Just for clarification so the power scaling doesn't confuse you later in the show. The mangaka confirmed that Deku didn't really use 1M% in this episode. It's hyperbole that served more as a "I'm fired up" battle cry from Deku. Like him yelling out to hype himself up to go beyond his current limit.
You just need to remember one thing, we're just at the start of the fight and Deku already has both his arms broken... As epic as this fight is, Deku is already in a state that won't let him fight for a while and This is just the beginning.

Just if you didn't noticed, what kota says at the end, and also the name of the episode, in Japanese, is "Boku no hero", Just like the name of the show itself, by this moment, this was the peek of the anime
Another anime coming out this season that i highly recommend is zom 100 bucket list of the dead. I watched 2 episodes and immediately read the manga up to a reasonable end of the season. A studio that was recently formed made this for their 1st project, and it is right up your alley.
It was explained in episode 1 of season 1, but when a child gets a quirk, they either get their dads' quirk, their moms' quirk, or the 2 quirks fuse to make a new quirk. So if izuku was born with a quirk, he would either have a quirk that lets him breathe fire, levitate objects towards himself, or maybe even potentially have the ability to set things on fire with his mind.
Black / salty licorice lover here: it's very much an acquired taste. I probably wouldn't have liked if it wasn't popular in the Netherlands, over here you basically grow up with that stuff everywhere. I guess it's kind of like spicy food, where you need to learn to eat it, except with licorice it's only in candy. Imagine a licorice quirk though, just blasting people with salty licorice flavor. 100% effective in most of the world!
The dude knew Midoriya's name because of the villain's mission. We don't know what it is yet, but he said from the get go that they had "a list" of people to look for. Midoriya was on the list, with instructions to murder him on sight. Bakugo is also apparently on the list.
Sorry, I do enjoy licquorice sometimes. I like the tang of it. Not the strong stuff, though, and not in large amounts, but mixed in a bag, I'll eat it. The raspberry liquorice is hella good, though.
By 6:20 the animation talk. I believe the animator Yutaka nakamora did both fights for mob psycho and my hero with that effect you speak about. I believe it’s affect he puts on his work
After watching this a second time I realised what Delaware Detroit smash is,at first I thought it was him bull shitting and adding names together, but it was him using a Delaware smash to blow the muscles away and follow up with a Detroit smash
Quirks are inherited, so no, that ain't bakugo's daddy, but it helps for Future reference, if you think someone is someone's relative just look at their quirks.
It is crazy to me to watch Alicia react to One Piece and saying how no one can tell you that they can't be beaten and how far a person can go... and come to this to see her telling people to go hide and not have those same ambitions and feelings, lol.
I think One Piece gives more of a vibe of following dreams in a more unrealistic and over-the-top way, while this is set in a world like our own. Also, literal kids vs adults/young adults. Luffy and Usopp are both still technically kids by our POV but 17 is pretty close to being adulty, but the others are 18 and over. The kids here are 15 and under, so... yeah, babies.
I didn't cry the first time I watched this, but I always tear up rewatching with other people. Such an impactful moment. Also yes whether you think you're right or wrong definitely say your theories! I want to hear them dangit. Thanks for the reaction.
These are not spoilers just things that are never explained in the anime: Muscular uses those eye pieces to keep his artificial eye from rattling around while he fights. Muscular's resemblance to Bakugo is purely coincidental. The villians (and most of the world) knows the students from the UA hero course because the sports festival was a televised event. The deleware detroit smash is actually two seperate attacks (deleware smash utilizes his fingers and detroit smash is a full punch) The 1 million percent smash is more of a battle cry than the actual output of deku's power.
If you compare Deku's '100%' hits to what All Might has done so far, yeah '100%' is not = All Might, or the full potential of the quirk, it's just the maximum he can output regardless of what it does to his body. So this just represents him squeezing more power out of the quirk than he has been able to up until now. As represented by the imagery of the power passing from all the previous users to Deku. 'Delware smash' is him using his fingers, same thing he did in vs. Todoroki. Here he did it to break through Muscular's fibres before a proper Detroit smash. I thought that was neat.
I never noticed 2:56 Kaminari saying "salmiakki" and it being translated to English as "salty licorice". It's the Finnish word for a salty licorice (a candy) that splits opinions on whether it tastes good or not!
So Delaware Smash is when he flicks his fingers like when he fought Shoto but he used all of them at once while his hand was buried in the the muscle fiber to break apart Muscular’s muscle armor and the Detroit Smash more of a generic punch
I hope you have a successful recovery. Normal Licorice is something I flip flop,. having burned out on it a few times. Monoma is second to Mineta in annoyance. I think they actually share a studio with Mob Psycho, but don't quote me. If I don't misunderstand, the staples are to hold the healthy skin on. Or he's just a nut case. Both are entirely possible. What doesn't make sense to me is how many people thirst over the scarred porcupine. Spinner can't have a Katana or a proper giant sword. Oh no. Punk has to make do with a pile of cutlery and mall ninja knives held together with belts and a lot of hope. On the one hand, I get trying to protect the students, but there are some powerhouses in both, and telling them to go hot could save lives. Kinsou is so hero material. Her first thought is to protect her class mates and get them tot safety. Way to go Momo! Battle has indeed forged 1A to be stronger and to be acutely aware of the dangers, but to recklessly seek it out like this? Just to get stronger? That is a bad plan. Sure, defend and fight a running battle of evasion if engaged, but seeking villains out to prove yourself is the behavior of a fool. This is where Red Riot firmly passes Tetsu. Just by being smarter, I'd say he's coming out ahead. The cell phone being busted is a problem because Deku has now lost communication with the teachers, pussycats, and classes. That's not a gimp suit. You'll see what it is. No absorbing, he just tanked the hit with all that muscle. Well muscle man is a psychopath. Let's see who else on the villain team is also one. Shigaraki and Kurogiri made up a list of targets and actions to take when finding them. Slow death were the instructions for Deku. So meathead was briefed on Deku. Phase 2. An eye shot could theoretically work, though I doubt Deku has adequate control or gauging of this guy to pull it off without it being a kill shot by going through the eyes into the brain. I like that Deku did try to take the training to heart about it sometimes being better to run. Deku won, but this is perhaps his most costly yet. Kota is a believer once more.
Black licorice isnt actually bad, I'm only 21, but i kinda like it just cuz we got black licorice flavored jelly beans from my parents' work a long time ago as a gift. And then nobody was eating them, so i took them and declared that i would eat them, and after eating a few, i got used to the flavor. And then i finished 2 big tubes of them, and ever since then ive actually sort of liked the flavor
14:15 Context that's _missing_ from the anime: Individuals with quirks that permanently change their appearance are racially discriminated against, there's even groups directly based on the KKK that lynch them. The lizard guy, Spinner, his entire motivation for following along with Stain's ideology is to create a world where that racism stops, where heroes will no longer ignore that it's happening. And then there's this bitch complimenting his looks in order to _manipulate_ and _take advantage_ of him, when his appearance has been the basis for discrimination and hatred that he's dealt with all his life, a hero, who would absolutely be AWARE of what mutant type quirk users have to deal with, just did something extremely dirty and racist with no hesitation. All of this depth and context? Gone in the anime, they were too scared to put themes of racism and discrimination in a TV anime, and Spinner's character suffers for it, 70% of his character development was absolutely DELETED due to this censorship, and despite them taking action to rectify that in more recent seasons, we're now past the point where it can be properly fixed.
Keep in mind, we have seen already that injuries in this show have lasting concequences. Imagine the damage from izuku using about 40 percent of one for all like he did in this episode, while having 2 broken arms.
This is not really a spoiler and Horikoshi had to clarify this for fans because it wasn't really explained in the manga either, but Deku doesn't really use 1000000%. it was just a way of showing deku's fighting spirit and for him to hype himself up.
I feel like the fact that everyone praises Kota’s parents reframes the tragedy into a valid, conscious choice to die for the greater good. And naturally that leaves Kota with a strong resentment because if there is any way in which that’s true… the. His parents chose helping the world over coming back to him. When you suffer a terrible loss like that I think what you really need to hear is people affirming that it’s super fucked up, that it shouldn’t have happened. But Kota never really got that, I can see how to him heroism is really a selfish and show off-y abandonment people who love you. It’s not even entirely wrong, just think of how much Dekus mother is actively suffering because Deku wants to become a hero, and that’s probably gonna be permanent. The families of heroes really have an awful burden that their loved ones could die any day and it wouldn’t even be weird.
the dark spots on dabi's face are supposed to be burn scars which at high levels have to be cut upen then stapled together with his healthy skin I'm a little surprised you didn't get that but yeah it's supposed to be a obvious feature of his design and shouldn't be a spoiler

Make sure to rest all you need Alicia, hope u feel better in all those soft blankets
Ive seen this episode more times than I can count, and it still got me cryin' in the club right now
Black / salty licorice lover here: it's very much an acquired taste.
I've watched this episode like 50 times at this point and I still grown man bawl with that ending.
Also another episode update: Momo best clutch girl.
The dude knew Midoriya's name because of the villain's mission. We don't know what it is yet, but he said from the get go that they had "a list" of people to look for. Midoriya was on the list, with instructions to murder him on sight. Bakugo is also apparently on the list.
The Mangaka himself ended having to tweet out how Deku was just psyching himself up with that 1,000,000% business.
So it's actually a nomenclature about how all for one works. It's a power-up ability so it does let you go past 100% plus ultra
Mandalay: Whatever you do, do not engage in combat with the villains!
Bakugo: Let's kick their asses!
Sorry, I do enjoy licquorice sometimes. I like the tang of it. Not the strong stuff, though, and not in large amounts, but mixed in a bag, I'll eat it. The raspberry liquorice is hella good, though.
Thank goodness I'm not the only motherfucker getting teary eyed every episode of MHA LOL WHY IS THEIR SOUNDTRACK SO DAMN GOOD
By 6:20 the animation talk.
Alicia: "anyone who eats those black Licorice treats your an old old man"
The entire country of Sweden furiously typing
Thanks for the reaction.
the hype music that plays when Deku beats Muscular, and has played before, is titled "My Hero"
this is why
These are not spoilers just things that are never explained in the anime:
Muscular uses those eye pieces to keep his artificial eye from rattling around while he fights.
Muscular's resemblance to Bakugo is purely coincidental.
The villians (and most of the world) knows the students from the UA hero course because the sports festival was a televised event.
The deleware detroit smash is actually two seperate attacks (deleware smash utilizes his fingers and detroit smash is a full punch)
The 1 million percent smash is more of a battle cry than the actual output of deku's power.
This is the best EP on S3 in my opinion I'm glad you felt the same feelings I felt when I watched it lol
Your theories are the best, i'm loving them!
I continued watching... I'm not a weirdo! you are! 😁
23:34 Not gonna lie I sobbed the first time I watched this fight too
Damn, looks like Reiner wandered into MHA and started taking steroids.
Deku's adrenaline is the real MVP
That final clash will always live rent free in my head
Black licorice isnt actually bad, I'm only 21, but i kinda like it just cuz we got black licorice flavored jelly beans from my parents' work a long time ago as a gift. And then nobody was eating them, so i took them and declared that i would eat them, and after eating a few, i got used to the flavor. And then i finished 2 big tubes of them, and ever since then ive actually sort of liked the flavor
Salty liquorice and other variants are really popular in northern Europe, you really just called most of us old
The VA just put Delaware and Detroit into another whole level geeez
14:15 Context that's _missing_ from the anime:
Individuals with quirks that permanently change their appearance are racially discriminated against, there's even groups directly based on the KKK that lynch them.
Don't push yourself too hard, the content is well worth any wait and your health is way more important then a video schedule.
Such a great moment, but I think everyone can agree that dropping 1 million percent makes everyone go what? Why? How?
2:40 IIRC, Spinner (the turtle guy) is very much inspired by the Ninja Turtles.
Just to let you know that that he 1 million percent is a battle cry and not the real percentage according Horikoshi the mangaka for mha
You finally seen ONE of the best moments in mha. Now the real fun begins , get your tissues ready
This episode had me a crying mess at the end too. Super inspirational things like this get me every time.
One of my favorite episodes.
Yeah, Monomo (clone) has all three personality of wet cardboard, it's fine if you choose not to deign to learn his name.
the dark spots on dabi's face are supposed to be burn scars which at high levels have to be cut upen then stapled together with his healthy skin
I'm a little surprised you didn't get that but yeah it's supposed to be a obvious feature of his design and shouldn't be a spoiler
I knew you loved this episode. Such a good character moment for Deku and Kota
Alicia's black licorice rant had me rolling.
Not many people under 70 like it... Eraserhead being one isn't surprising.
@@brettwood1351 Unless you're in a Nordic country, here the majority of kids like it. No cap.
My favorite part is when kota says Boku no hero
Alicia calling me old for enjoying black licorice is a strange thing to happen today
Im kinda torn because I REAAAAALY love the villains design, but hot damn.... dont you hurt my bb boys lol
As a Dutch person i feel called out about the licorice bit... Quite alot of young people enjoy it here lol
24:47 homey dat ant how math works.
yes! THIS is one of the episodes iv been waiting for alicia to see, the feels!!!!
Salty Black Licorice is the best candy on this earth.
The start of The Muscular vs Deku rivalry 😂.
Take care of yourself Alicia :) we will not go anywhere so pls rest
I've noticed a lot of people thought Koda was quirkless for some reason?
Stain and Spinner are designed after TMNT-style characters.
Sword made out of knives held together by belts is such a 90's toy thing.
Alicia, get some rest pls 😢 we can wait a day
.
Me in my 20s eating black licorice feeling attacked just because black Jack's are yummy
