Not all white fillings are the same. There are two types: resin (that is, plastic, or composite) fillings; and porcelain fillings (inlays, ceramic, or CEREC).
A resin restoration is placed in soft and set hard, whereas a
porcelain restoration is a hard prefabricated material that is bonded into the cavity. When the filling is relatively large, requiring corners (or cusp replacements), we always recommend porcelain restoration. Although porcelain is more expensive than resin, the price differential may prove to be a lot less than first envisaged because the resin filling may need to be replaced over and over. For smaller fillings, resin is often suitable. At Smile Solutions we offer both options, according to your needs.
The main benefit of a resin or CEREC filling is that the procedure is done in a single 90-minute visit, which suits the time poor. Also, porcelain is a superior, harder, more natural looking material, so that it blends with your existing teeth. Then there's the conservation factor: there's no need to remove the whole of the tooth to be filled -- we just remove what's necessary.
