    Thank u Wisam for ur nice words
    1- The bur used for this prep are tapered diamond with flat end (1,2 mm) for axial preparation, fine tapered stone (0.8 mm" for proximal preparation, flame stone for fossa preparation and rubber cup for finishing the preparation.
    2-The depth grooves are 1 mm at the finish line.
    Thank u again, i hope my answer help u and u welcome any time.

    The instructional video would be more complete if the authors:-described the amount of depth reduction they aimed for as they did it-showed how to verify adequate palatal fossa reduction for the ceramic thickness needed for function, and-either showed or described what they did to the completed prep between 'unfinished' and 'finished'.

    I don't prefer this method if you don't have enough experience you could find a difficulty specially if you start with making groove on the labial side which increases chances to form unnecessary undercuts, also it's recommended for students to use matrix band in order to avoid any contact with the adjacent tooth, it's also good to know that using hand piece on a high speeds has a quite significant impact thus tooth preparation will definitely be done faster more even and undercuts will be minimized.

    How to do a good finishing for the surface and finish line with out making irregularities while using low speed, and which stones is preferred ? ty in advance =) and nice video very helpful

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  8 років тому +4

      Thank you Mohammed. For finishing your preparation you can use fine grit diamond or carbide burs. For finishing the finish line you can use hand cutting instruments (eg. enamel chisel ) after using the finishing burs. For further finishing you can use silicon tips; it will give you a very finish and lustrous surface.

    nice video, but that is maxillary tooth thus there is no lingual surface it is palatal i think, n also for anteriors we do not use the term buccal, we use labial.

      Yes you are right. We made this video in the beginning of our casting on the UA-cam and we didn't expect it to spread like that, so we didn't make a fine revision for the data in it. We are sorry for that but hope you understand now the situation.

    Good day Dr. Azhar, I have one question.. what margins do you prefer in tooth reduction? the shoulder in labial then chamfer in palatal or all chamfer or shoulder margin??

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  10 років тому +1

      Kim Ganir deep chamfer " circumferential " finish line is the most recommended finish line for all ceramic crowns.

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  8 років тому +1

      There is one thing , " Al Azhar " is a university not a person,,,,
      Regarding your question we prefer and recommend the use of chamfer finish line with any type of the ceramic materials. Actually the shoulder type finish line is no longer been used in tooth preparation because the sharp internal line angle between the axial wall and the finish-line can concentrate stresses and transmit it from the tooth to the ceramic material in unfavorable pattern. these stresses may be catastrophic especially for the weaker ceramics.The chamfer finish-line can transfer the force vector smoothly from the tooth to the restoration without concentrating the force at one point, therefore its more safe and more tolerable by the ceramic materials.

      We used tapered stone with flat end #12 ( approximately 0.8 mm tip diameter) , you can have any brand with the same criteria
      The cast used here is common in Egypt ,it's known as ( Chinese cast)
      Teeth are not fixed to the cast by screws but by friction only

    Hi... i recently had a root canal and the teeth was prepared for crown fitting. During the prep there was lot of blood from my gums around that teeth... is that normal?...also its been 2 days and i feel a mild pain the gums... i see little redness and swelling... is that ok?

    • @wennessa94
      @wennessa94 7 років тому

      Vidya Bk Maybe you should go back to the dentist and tell him/her your problem because ideally there shouldn't be much bleeding nor swelling after crown prep

      Vanessa Li thanks for the reply... i did go back... they checked it out and said nothing to worry... they had to remove a little of my gums coz it was the last molar and i have crowding thats why there was so much blood... there hasn't been issues after that :)

    I been in dentistry for over 20 years im an assistant.. sadly my new dr (he’s 78 years old) his hand shakes constantly and i think he has parkinson disease he doesn’t do a very good job at anything.. he claims to be the best dentist in the world, but the last time i was honest with him because he did asked me , isn’t it a great prep.. I said honestly no because the pt keeps biting on the occlusal surface, on my temporary and it needs to be taken adjusted a little more because it creates a hole on a temporary then it cracks.. he got offended by my opinion even tho he asked me a question,a lot of patients been complaining about his work too.. if he didn’t want my opinion then he shouldn’t have ask me.. i don’t understand why he even get mad .. every time. Ive seen great work and I’ve seen horrible job from bad dentist.. and its really hard finding a dentist that loves what he do and care

    The start itself was against the teaching of TYLMAN book of prosth incisal reduction is the first tehn proximal then labial what about incisal edge angle at 45degrees a very amateurish unprofessional display.

    • @AzharFPD
      @AzharFPD  11 років тому +9

      I do agree with you that in most text books they start with the incisal preparation, however, from a clinical point of view, you have specific criteria of tooth preparation that you keep in mind and are willing to fulfill. I'd like to hear from you what's wrong with the sequence we demonstrated in the video, as all the set out criteria of tooth preparation are being fulfilled? Did you hear about "Reverse preparation technique"? The sequence is widely modified, and can be changed accordingly.
      The sequence of the preparation has many approaches, the crucial point is to stick to fulfilling the criteria, at the end.
      Regarding the incisal bevel -preparing the incisal edge with a 45 degrees bevel towards the palate- I, agian, agree with you. But I don't know if you had watched the video to the end or not? Re-watch the video to the end, you can see the 45 degrees palatal bevel of the incisal edge in the finished preparation. It's also noticeable in the picture of the complete finished preparation displayed in the beginning of the video. It's not made clear as a separate step, yet it's very noticeable in the finished preparation.
