Having seen many adapters that are useless I suggest this is one. I suspect power and distribution from the factory carb will be better
I have spent quite a while extensively modding and adapters they can work ok. Use a button head bolts instead of those dreadbull bolts.
As for carb sideways? Holleys have a direction. Probably ok on the dyno but useless on the road.

  • @stephenandloriyoung5716

When I asked at the parts store for adapters to go from one barrel to two, and two to four, the reaction was, "That's like trying to put a tornado through a keyhole!" I thought it was a fair analogy, used an Offenhauser four barrel intake instead, and put a QuadraJet on it. I oriented it with the primaries at the front, like it is on the V8s, not "sideways", because sideways seemed strange to me. It's snug where the automatic choke cuddles up to the valve cover, but doable. In retrospect, I might try the sideways mounting another time. It looks like your stack of adapters may have two advantages - a "tunnel ram" effect, and good insulation to prevent heat soak and vapor lock. Have you installed and run it?

Because that manifold is cast iron, could you chop the plenum off, and use simple homebrew mig welding to build a nice big plenum from box steel or sheet metal to feed the cylinders with a single 4 barrel? I've seen people have good results welding cast iron just by being careful and using the stack 'o tacks technique like you use with sheet metal.

How is the spacer going to do anything for airflow transition? You are just extending the barrels of the carb, which exits in the same (or near the same) place as what the carb would in the first place. Wouldn't an open plenum spacer do what you are wanting it to do here? Give the flow an easier transition around the bolts and the flat area of the adapter.

with the 2 barrel adapter being a 2 hole rather than an open hole you arent really gaining any transition area since the fuel air mixture still has to hard cut over after the spacer. I think your idea would only show a benefit if you machined out that spacer so its a big oval hole rather than the 2 hole.

Richard what will you think about this, once you install and tight those bolts I believe if you pour epoxy in the adapter and cover those bolts and shape a form to make kind of a funnel your speed will be increased and your fuel mixture will not fall apart by hitting those bolts and abrupt corners, it may be worth to try with and without to see how much of a effect it does, and for the 4 barrel carburetor I would modified that two barrel spacer and make a open spacer from it, there again you will have problems with fuel mixture hitting the sharp edges of the two barrel spacer and create fuel dripping I think ( maybe I'm wrong ).
I don't think that that engine will even start with a Dominator or if it does it will bug and dye but, but that is MHO, still it will be interesting to see test result of what happen to the fuel if it gets to run with such a big carburetor.

I want to see this on the Dyno! The only problem would be fitting the Dominator under any hood. It would definitely be an eye catcher for sure.

One engine i would love to see on a dyno is GMC 50'S Pickups had Big V6 engines. Before Big Block V8's came out. The biggest V6 GM made i think it was a 476CI.

As you dig into carb options, and not having the 2bbl built yet, have you ever looked into what the difference in power is between a blow through carb and a draw through? Whats the difference in power, jetting, charge temp, etc. Thank you, sir.

Rich, there's GOT to be someone out there that can fabricate you a stainless steel intake manifold for the 292 that has a plenum big enough to weld a square bore 4 barrel flange to. This is the equivalent of trying to choke a high compression turbo engine down to a single 1 3/4" exhaust.
