The best thing to do with cat food is try a single can or container and see how your cat does on them. I've tried several of these brands but actually ended up giving our cat Sheba because it's what she keeps down and even then I have to get cuts over patte. We talked to our vet and he said some cats are picky, sometimes their stomachs can't handle certain things. It's just trail and error, especially with cats.

For those who are dealing with FOOD ALLERGIES/IBD/STOMACH CANCERS ETC.
I recommend Hounds N Gatos (If food allergy or suspected I would avoid Chicken all together, remember a food allergy only happens if a cat has had prior consumption....since chicken is usually mixed in even with cans that dont mention it as a main ingredient it can be a main culprit to start with).
Personally I had my cat on HNG PORK and Duck simply because he never ate that much, if at all in the past....Making it a safe try to rid the swelling from a food allergy etc.
HNG has other flavors...Duck, seafood etc
HNG has an extremely basic ingredients list making any extras that may be causing an allergy a non issue.
Again, you cant force your cat to like something...but it is a good brand to attempt and see.
My cat personally made a 180 turn around after a couple months on that brand.
And for GODS SAKE....If you are fighting against Cancer or allergies...GET RID OF DRY FOOD...IT IS LIKELY WHY THE ISSUE EXISTS IN THE FIRST PLACE and REMEMBER....CANCERS LOVE CARBS WHICH IS WHAT DRY FOOD GIVES ABOVE ALL ELSE....It will take that fuel and grow faster with carb loads....AVOID IT.
Just an opinion....Take care of your Buddy(ies) they are depending on you!

I would be weary of Nom Nom Now. We fed our new cat for about 3 weeks off Nom Nom Now, until she fell very ill and lost half her body weight over two days. We brought in a bag of what we were feeding her to our vet and she said she has had complaints from other owners that this meal isn't as balance as the company says and our kitty eating an unbalanced diet for 3 weeks caused her to get very sick very fast. :( it was awful, but as soon as we nursed her back to health on different food, she thrived.

@@aaaa-gj1kn I was very impressed with Nom Nom Now's packaging, fast shipment and the quantity. I liked the company up until our girl stopped eating. There were no other changes in diet other than Nom Nom Now. (which we safely transitioned her into over a week and a half, and on the third week is when she stopped eating) She didn't get into anything as she was still in transitioning time in our home, so she didn't have a full run of the house to get into anything like chemicals of cleaning products. Our vet said signs pointed to food since she was in perfect health. At our vets recommendations we gave her baby food ( put it on her paws so she would eat while trying to clean herself) once she was able to pee again we fasted for 24 hours and then started her on a different diet, which she has thrived on. The only other thing my vet thought of was maybe she was just too young to be on that food, she was 8 months old at that point.

The Wellness Core I tried with Vita was from the “hearty cuts” line. It was Hearty Cuts 🐓 and 🦃 in gravy, a considerable upgrade from “Fancy Feast Shredded 🐓 or 🦃. I am pleased to say she went for it today. I think for the most part, this one has been the most succcessful so far.
I have also tried “Instinct Limited Ingredient.” She is not really a pate cat, but I wanted to try Instinct anyway, since you mentioned it in this video. They didn’t have “Original “ at the store I went to on Monday. She didn’t even attempt to eat it. She sniffed it and walked away.
Update: Vita ate the Instinct Limited Ingredient today after mixing it with the chicken bone broth and heating up the food in a bowl of hot water for 20 minutes. So there is hope yet. 😀

A horrifying idea but looking at the ingredients (and the food) it honestly is a higher quality than the dinty moore meals and spaghettios I ate as a kid lmao.
My cats absolutely love Weruva's oh my gravy line of food. It's a life saver for my cat with serious skin allergies and overgrooming problems. Her fur gets so glossy soft, and grows long enough you can actually see her stripes! Might try another brand to mix it up and see if it stops they heinously stinky poops (I doubt it unfortunately, since its basically just tuna with nothing else added).

I feed my 10 yro 19 lb male orange tabby Petco's Wholehearted Chicken Paté, senior formula. I always mix in warm water. Sometimes I mix in some dry kibbles of the same brand/flavor just so he has something hard to chew and scrape his teeth against. Seems pretty happy with it. After meals he squawks (he's a mute) at me for 10 min straight until I lay down on the couch, so he can lay on my chest and purr for 5 minutes. If I don't move too much, he falls asleep like that. When my cat’s food was discontinued I was faced with finding a replacement that would agree with him. My research led me to TikiCat because of its very good reviews and its quality ingredient content, plus, it was available at my local pet supply store so I was able to try a can at a time. My boy loves the Succulent Chicken, so much so, that in the beginning I had to be watchful that he did not eat it too quickly or he made himself sick from gorging and threw it up. He used to devour it as if he had never been fed before! Now he knows that he will be fed it every morning so he is not quite so desperate to inhale it. He also likes the Ahi Tuna & Chicken flavor, but definitely prefers the Succulent Chicken.
It might be worth mentioning, that he was a feral rescue when he was a young cat, and has always had food availability issues. 9 years later he still walks past his food bowl multiple times a day to make sure that it is still there. I keep a little dry kibble (also TikiCat) available to him for this reason.
Thanks for the time that you spent doing this research. It is much appreciated.

So, I switched to Natural Balance packets in 12 flavors, she loves it and gets a variety of proteins, but it took some trial and error. I give her a packet in the morning and evenings I give her the Natural Balance Delectable Delights - she likes the Purrrfect Paella best. It's been months and she's not thrown up and is doing well! I think she was allergic to chicken mostly, but with a variety, she's been fine incl chicken, fish, duck, turkey, beef etc.

    • @whiteknightcat
      @whiteknightcat 2 роки тому +1

@@junechamberlin5184 You will need to estimate how much exactly you can afford per day and then base your choice on the highest quality food that fits that budget. Then again, budget constraints should also limit how many cats you can reasonably care for.
In my particular case, I have 6 cats. They get dry kibble in the morning and canned food for supper on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The only reason for that is the growing shortages of canned food. So at supper, 6 cats consume 3 cans of food at roughly $1.50 per can, so that's $4.50 per day. I'm in the process of upgrading due to quality and shortages of some brands, so I'll be limiting myself to about $2.00 per can maximum, or $6.00per day. That gives me the guideline to knock out the more expensive brands while still choosing something of decent quality.

Thank you so much. I’m so grateful that I ran into your website when searching the best type of cat foods. Now you’re the top resource I seek! I value your opinion so much more than the others! My personal question is, what would you recommend between these 2 that you’ve given positive feedback on: Authority chicken pate or the Whole Hearted chicken gravy featured in this video? Which of the 2 would you recommend more or is of higher quality? Where I found them, they’re the same price! I very much would like to feed my cat the best quality food to avoid health issues down the line so I want to get her off the dry food I am currently feeding her, which is Simply Nourish source indoor cat fish & chicken, which is high in protein and grain free (and I’d love if you could give your review/feedback on it someday perhaps!) as I can’t afford your #1 pick, Dr. Elseys protein cat right now unfortunately. I’d like to continue having some kibble in her diet but if it’s recommended to only do wet then I will switch over. I love that whole Weruva line (Cats in the Kitchen) for my cat and she loves it too! It's great if your cat wants variety, and mine definitely does. I keep all 10 canned flavors in rotation and I've noticed my cat has so much more energy, has much shinier and sleeker fur (she's not the fluffy type), and is overall much healthier than when I was slowly transitioning her from the Friskies the shelter had her on. I have to agree, my cat becomes a militant dictator when it's feeding time and I cannot move fast enough to open that can. She likes to try and trick other members of my family by convincing them they need to feed her right after I've given her some. She was not like that with the Friskies. 😂

Thank you for doing this work. I'm studying the work of Dr. Karen Becker and her onus is the "ancestral diet" which includes bone and offal, as the cat would eat when killing prey. She says that the fat content should be at about 6%. None of these approximate that. The closest is Tiki at 13%. I plan to make my own batches of food, am currently working with a new kitty and trying several different brands during the transition. It's amazing the diversity of ingredients. Of course pets, like humans, are drawn to high-carb high-fat foods due to the taste, but it's not always the best FOR us.

Thank you for all of your research. I have a cat named Vita. I wonder how she would take to the Vita brand 🐈 food. 😆
She has been on high quality dry foods for most of her life (in her first year before I adopted her she ate tuna along with a very cheap form of dry food, like Meow Mix).
She is nearly 14 years old. I made two attempts to switch over to wet or at least have a balance of both, at the age of 6 years and now.
I have tried everything from Ziwi Peaks chicken (I think) which is very similar to Feline Naturals. She ate some of it. I have also tried 🇨🇦 Fresh and they have 🐔 and 🦃. Again, she ate some of each. She is not a huge fan of pates. I also tried another newer Canadian food company called Open Farm Pet. Their food is puréed. Vita ate very little of the pouches. Huge waste of 💴. It was still worth a try. Ziwi Peaks, Canada Fresh and Open Farm Pet are made with limited ingredients but there is no point if she won’t eat much of them.
With Open Farm Pet, I started buying bone broths. At first I was using the bone broth with her dry food, but after a while she stopped eating the food. It was like I was contaminating her food. The other disadvantage is if you add bone broth to the dry food it expires the same way it does with wet food, and if Vita wouldn’t eat it, it would just end up going to waste.
I have started buying Tikki Cat “After Dark” varieties. I have tried chicken and duck, and chicken. When taking it out of the fridge this was when I added the bone broth instead of hot water to give it more flavour. Sometimes she would eat it (but not a huge portion) and other times not. Vita often will only eat her canned food when I first open up the can and pour it in her bowl. She can detect when something is left over.
Anyway, with Tikki cat, that is when I discovered she prefers the shredded meat. They have another one from the “After Dark” line with quail egg. She woudn’t go for that at all. I have tried Weruva with Vita when she was about 6 years old. I bought the pouches. She wouldn’t eat it. She might like it now, so I will check out Weruva again. I have read great things about them as well.
Unfortunately, since Vita has been so fussy I have had to feed her a combination of Tikki Cat and Fancy Feast grilled chicken or turkey. She eats a sizeable portion of each. I know it is not the healthiest canned cat food, but according to info on a cat info site, it is still better than an exclusively dry diet.
With her dry food, I have been using Cranimals to prevent/treat UTIs.
I have to say this week she is doing so much better in terms of energy and stamina, and the quality of her urine.
I have also tried goat’s milk (made for pets) but she won’t go for that either.
I will not keep her on Fancy Feast forever, but to help with the transition. All of my cats were on Fancy Feast. They did fine on it.
It’s a hit and miss process but I think we are getting closer to what we want.
I know some of your brands are not available in 🇨🇦.
Thanks again for your 👍 video. 😆

If you look at the ingredients of market-fare cat food they are fairly awful. I've come to the conclusion that at least 'natural flavor' is probably a man-manipulated flavor enhancer that makes cats addicted to it and not the actual carbs and sub-par meat by-products. Either that or some other chemical that they don't have to list on the label (the pet food industry 'regulates' itself, apparently so any standards are non-existent) and are addictive so the cat *insists* on that food and they make a sizeable profit.

  • @liveyouryoga

On the plus side, Vita is doing better since changing her diet. She gets only half of the carbs at night, and during the day I give her wet food at different times throughout the day, as she tends to eat no more than half of the food at a time, (1/4 to 1/2 of a medium sized can). She even craves the canned cat food and sometimes even favours it over the kibble. I give her Fromm game bird.
Vita will eat the pates, like Instinct. As mentioned before, I give her the limited ingredient version. I also bought some mini ice-cube trays and I use these trays for water (to add ice cubes to her water bowls), and also bone broth. Vita will eat portions of the food mixed with the bone broth. The problem is, it is very time consuming. The bone broth cubes don’t come out as easily as the water cubes. I have to let the ice cube tray sit out for 5 minutes so I can remove them easily. I then place the food inside another bowl with boiled water, and cover it with a saucer. I time it for 20 minutes, and then I change the water and put the bowl in for another 15 to 20 minutes. When I am doing this, Vita is showing signs of hunger. Quite often what happens though is she loses interest waiting for me to warm up her food, and then I have to throw the food out, because it will have expired, and then I try again later.
With this kind of process, it is not necessarily an issue for me, but if I go away for even a day, it will be a problem for someone else looking after her. At around Christmas, that would be even worse because we would be gone for multiple days. We don’t travel much either.
When I run out of the higher quality canned foods, she gets Fancy Feast. She really likes the grilled chicken and turkey in gravy. She usually doesn’t eat all of the can. Even the Fancy Feast helps her with the hydration.
Vita has been a good drinker. The water bowl with added ice cubes makes her want to drink more. I also top up her water bowls with more ice cubes throughout the day.

I have two beautiful, exceptionally intelligent Siamese cats and they are probably the pickiest eaters I have ever seen. It's a challenge to find a food they will eat and will eat on a consistent basis. I have tried so many different brands but the three that they have a strong aversion to are three that appear on your list and they are 1.) Feline Natural 2.) Hound & Gato 3.) Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein. Normally my cats will approach a food slowly smelling it and checking it out with every small step forward they take but with Feline Natural, Hound & Gato and Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein there is no approaching it, the very first whiff of any of those three foods and they back away from it like it was the plague.

Could you do a video on non-pate wet foods? My cat despises pate and won’t even eat the Instinct food. I’ve been struggling to find a non pate food that has good ingredients. Bonus points if you have one for kittens.

Could you do an episode on gums (carrageenan, guar, etc), why they are bad, which are the least worst, etc. and also phosphates? No matter how much you try to avoid them, it seems most cat foods have these :-(

it'd be great to see the can close up when you talk about it. I'm wanting to get my cat off werwuva as I found out all of them have a tuna base but that is listed in small print

Thank you for your input. While we unfortunately can't reshoot this video to include better close-up shots of the cans, we have tried to incorporate better shots of the products we review in our more recent reviews.

Hi. I have doubts about Wellness Core brand. They are using Chicken or Turkey Meals.
And "Chicken or Turkey Meal is typically made with feed grade chicken or Turkey (meats that aren't human-edible), which can include "4D meats" from animals that are dying, deceased, disabled*, or diseased.
While there's no guarantee that the meat meal in your pet's food comes from 4D meats, there's also no guarantee that it doesn't".

My cat won't eat chicken at all but love fish, Whole Hearted ocean was a sniff than walked away, cat person tuna was great, instant fish was a no go but I'll be trying everything on the list hoping I can switch him completely to wet food

As a cat owner I will honestly say, the cat will let you know if he/she likes it or not! 🐱😀

My babies are on a Tiki-Cat and Weruva B.F.F meal plan. We tried the Whole-hearted stuff from Petco but I had two problems with them. 1. My cats didn't like the pate texture and 2. I noticed the texture of their fur change for the negative on that food. Mixing the Tiki-Cat and B.F.F's for them is a perfect mix for us especially since we need to keep them relatively lean because both are tripawds.

hello! so, do you mix the Tiki-cat dry food with the Weruva wet food? and if yes, for each meal? :))

    • @kayleesova
      @kayleesova 2 роки тому

@@anaisiscool We don't use any dry food in particular because they don't get much of it. Wet food makes up at least 80% of their diet. They only get some kibbles as a snack in a feed ball that they have to play with to get the food out of overnight as a "midnight snack". Mostly we just make sure that their kibble is grain free. This seems to work very well for our fur babies, but every cat's needs are a touch different.
