    The Eneloops I got in 2009-2012 and have used ever since all still exceed their rated capacity. Using a per-cell smart charger at only 200mA (for AAs) really helps. 2x series chargers and high current chargers really kill low-self-discharge cells.

    I love getting cool stickers, glad you got some new batteries. I’ve moded so many things to take 18650s 😂

    For some devices, I have switched to nickel-zinc batteries. They have a slightly lower capacity, but they maintain a cell voltage of 1.6 volts for a longer period. They are ideal for devices that run on batteries and have issues with the 1.2 volts of NiMH batteries. However, you need a special charger that charges using the CCCV method.

    if you want to know a rechargeable AA and AAA battery life hack, IKEA rechargeable AA and AAA are Japanese made panasonic eneloop cells with a different wrapper! They sell high capacity 2450 mAh AA Panasonic Eneloop Pro cells as well! They are well priced, best price per cell I have found, beating out online and bulk prices

      Amazon basics are also eneloops. At the very least they test favorably in my experience.

      I replaced all my yard solar light batteries with the AA 1900 mAh IKEA cells (they go all night now after a nice sunny day) and gaming console/remote controllers with the 2450 mAh or 700mAh AAA. iKEA used to have the AAA 950 mAh panasonic eneloops, but have since discontinued them, so full price from panasonic on those now (great camera batteries!) Those EBL 9v power my metal detectors and pinpointers, although not as long as an alkaline.

      Also using IKEA almost exclusively, they're cheap and seems to be very consistent. The oldest ones should be 5 years old. Also bought their 8 cell charger.
      Have 4 panasonic eneloop batteries, they've held up well, about 7 years by now.

    I stopped using EBL batteries, I haven't had one that made it more than a year before they discharged below the recharge threshold. And god forbid you leave it in a remote or thermostat or any low usage device. It was never going recharge. I use the cheating method of boosting them with a 12v source to get them back above the threshold and they recharge. but then they are right back to being screwed on the next cycle. I switched to panasonic, no problems, and they are lighter.

      seems the actual problem is your charger not liking overdischarged batteries... it shouldn't be a problem with Ni-MH.

      @@Edvinas_channel I use the EBL charger... for both brands

    • @theJonnymac
      @theJonnymac Місяць тому +1

      @@Edvinas_channel and my point is they have a high internal discharge rate with no usage. which makes them useless as batteries, unless i walk around and change all the batteries in every thing once a month and recharge them. that's why I switched

      All my EEBL batteries have seemed fine except frequently cycled ones started to fail after 3-4 years. I haven't let any self-discharge for a whole year but I think I've had a few sitting six months and they still have a decent charge left. Eneloops can be trusted to last over a year but IMO six months is more than enough.
      It's also possible they have had different chemistry variations over the years.

    I don't bother using EBL. Project farm tested them and they were about the worst.
    I always buy Amazon batteries because they're basically no name eneloops for slightly more.
    Just don't buy high capacity unless you are using the batteries within a month, otherwise get normal, because they discharge themselves.
    Even then Amazon batteries last a whole heck of a lot longer even the high capacity.

    Having stuff sent to you for free is nice - at least you can warn your friends if it's total shit, and instead of feeling bad because you wasted your money, you'll feel that satisfaction because you did something good. Time will tell how these batteries will hold up, and since you have so many of them, you could e.g. put them in a fridge to test discharge rate vs temperature.

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, I think itll be interesting to see how they do

      The EBL cells I bought in 2019 to replace cordless phone batteries were starting to fail in 2023 (or maybe 2022). These will have been cycled at least once every week or two so probably 100-300 cycles. Not the best but decent enough, especially for the price.
