I normally jus plug my phone into my interface, create a blank audio track, press record in my DAW and press play on my phone. Boom 💥. Reference track 🤷🏾♂️. No fancy routing or setups required. Plug and play
Thanks Chris!!!! I thought this was not possible in Cubase and had no awareness of loopback functions in audio interfaces (which i will look out for on my next one!) Another great vid!
Should be a cubase 11.5 update option to be able to listen to streaming services audio as audio channel. Like having an option like opening up a channel as a streaming monitor track There you go Steinberg. I just made you number 1 in the industry
Cubase engine is not designed this way to support 2 interfaces at the same time, cause is what would be needed to support this in a DAW. I actually think if a $129 Audio Interface like the EVO4 can support a good Loopback option, all interfaces should aim for that.
@@mixdownonline I think it’s possible and not very hard to implement. What I’m describing is an actual track for example like an audio track or midi track you would open. It would essentially just be playing audio within a plugin internet browser within cubase. I don’t think this is out of the question and possible. I’m sure it would be a lot more complicated than what I’m explaining but in the current state of audio and referencing material it’s not easy or fool proof at this time. Just a thought
I have never seen anyone but youtubers ever get this to work. This is meant to be a solution for sharing your DAW audio session via Zoom as well, but as said before no one else I know or seen in comments has been able to successfully make this work.
I appreciate the effort in sharing how this works. I may be doing several things wrong here but curious to know if others are having trouble? Cubase 13 Pro is crashing the last 3 times I have tried to make Spotify/Cubase/Sessionwire play nice together. Exactly a year ago I bought the macbook pro m3 with the 18GB of Memory and 1TB Storage, All the power I could afford! I have not even started loading other tracks and the reference channel is sinking the ship it seems. I hope I am just setting it up wrong. I have been pretty happy with my Mac and Cubase together thus far. No deal breaker here but just curious if it is extra taxing on compute resources or maybe the free version of SW is the issue? Thanks for all your great tutirials and happy new year!!
Thanks for the great video !. I think I do understand waht the Loopback function does and my question is why dont we leave that function ENABLE at all time?. When is it that I do not want to leave it ON as a default?
The Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 has a Loopback facility on it's software as well, but I hadn't used it. I will try it now though having watched your video. Thanks.
I tried Banana a while ago. I'm no novice but also no pro and I couldn't get my head around it, even after YT vids. In my view it is super un-user friendly. I just streamed from my phone. The quality really didn't seem to suffer. 🧡
Hi, Chris thanks for the superb video. So enlightening :)). I've tried with Banana, but the result was a crackle output. It's hard to control the latency after applying this voice meter input.
How come the output volume of your youtube video's vary's so much? I just went from one video to another & the 2nd one, this one, is much louder than the last one so I had to turn it down. What's more strange is that this video was posted as one of two videos's you recommend near the end of the previous video. Why would you put recommended video's together with such variations in output volume? Surely you've heard of luff's & should be using that as an output standard?
I have virtual cables... I HATE VOICEMETER. You can however assign applications to virtual cables natively right in windows advanced settings. This is what I do with OBS so I can seperate and control what goes to the VOD what is heard and so forth. Are there no DAWs that support virtual cable on a per track basis?
OK Chris, I use a UR 44 and it has a loopback feature, This works to bring music into my stereo input 1/2 in CUBASE 10.5. This is great but, the audio does not go through my control room or main outputs, in CUBASE, The audio goes straight to the interface "no processing on the output". OK, what am I trying to do? I want to bring audio into CUBASE via Streaming audio. YEAAAAAAY I've got this it works. Now I want to send this audio through my "monitoring chain" (Control Room) this is where things don't work. The only way I can send this audio to the "MAINS" is to create an audio track with input 1/2 as its source and "MONITOR" it. "PROBLEM" this monitored source is now LOOPING back on itself and this ISN"T GOOD. Work around????? The only way I have found to listen to streaming audio through my monitoring chain is to not monitor this new audio track and record input 1/2 onto it, disable "LOOPBACK" and hit play ,WORD OF WARNING, ALLWAYS BE SURE LOOPBACK IS DISABLED WHEN PLAYING BACK OR MIXING TRACKS.
What about downloads? Let's say I download an aac file from iTunes, then convert it to a .wav to make it compatible to Cubase. Is that a lossless file? Has it been loudness normalized?
Nice, didnt know that. I have a related question. Is there a way to route somehow in Cubase, so i can listen Hitachi speakers with Pioneer Sub that i have hooked to Technics reciever and then to computer? I have UR242 interface and HS7s, but i would love to listen to both speakers when i mix. Is there a way to do that, or do I have to buy better interface with more outputs? Thanks.
for windows there is an extra thing you can do to make this loopback works better you can specify what output every app use for example : chrome: voicemeeter input other apps : your main headphone so only sounds coming from chrome will be looped back instead of all sounds in your computer about audio hardware I prefer using asio4all to merge voicemeeter (or other loopback software ) with my audio interface so I don't lose the in/out flexibility for me I use apollo interface + asiolink they work great with each other and I can use virtual channels from my audio interface for loop back or more complex routing but I think that I've tried all methods on this video before
Hello Chris: have you tried recording into Cubase using the loopback function of the UR-RT4? I got that interface now and I like it very much, but recording from internet into Cubase has a lot of drop outs and some of them remain registered in the track (not all though). Some of them are simply silent spaces (a fraction of a second, for example) and some of them are short audio ranges that are missing (and so the track looses synchronism). I don’t know if that is a problem with the interface or with the PC (an old i7 with 32 GB RAM and two big SSD). I have tried changing buffer, ASIO guard, sample frequency and so on and same result. But if I use the old method with Voice Meeter (Banana!) using the built in recorder (that one with the cassette image) the resulting audio is perfect. Maybe the loopback function of the UR is not very good for recording but just for streaming. You mention in the video that some cards have a loopback function that doesn’t work very well.
Loudness is extreme in platforms they distort awfully. Problem is LUFS that now they make -6 the Integrated in many pop songs but also True Peak that is over +2 in many songs. The same mastering is also on compact discs even on vinyls in new commercial songs. But mant people say that -14 LUFS normalisation on Spotify is a myth. I had premium and all i heard distorted and extremely loud and also many had so dull bass and hard drums, no high end and squashed masters. UA-cam use different algorithms and songs sound better.
I normally jus plug my phone into my interface, create a blank audio track, press record in my DAW and press play on my phone. Boom 💥. Reference track 🤷🏾♂️. No fancy routing or setups required. Plug and play
Same here BMP! But this looked so easy and cool "in theory" but cubase is not having it yesterday and today! Beachball City on my mac.
thanks, this is very helpful..
I am using studio one, I follow your tutorial and it's work..
I would like to know how you did it.
Thanks Chris!!!! I thought this was not possible in Cubase and had no awareness of loopback functions in audio interfaces (which i will look out for on my next one!) Another great vid!
Very welcome!

It should be easy and straight forward in theory, but as I commented above, either I am underpowered or just missing steps somehow.
Thank you!! I needed to figure out how to get reference tracks in my DAW given most streaming services won’t let you download tracks.
Love you dada ❤❤

Great info brother, but how do you put it in my DAW, I am not able to get it into pro tools
I been looking for this for the past 30 mins and your video pops up and you're using Amazon music! Video liked. Channel subscribed lol
Oh Yeah! Thanks for the sub and happy to help!
Brilliant. I was thinking this could work
Soundcloud also offers max reso, but it depends on the author if he/she has uploaded wav file.
Thanks Chris! You totally rock, step by step. Nice!
Happy to help! :-)
Thanks for the great video !. I think I do understand waht the Loopback function does and my question is why dont we leave that function ENABLE at all time?. When is it that I do not want to leave it ON as a default?
Your video quality is amazing
Thank you!
is any of these methods better than the others in quality?
on an ipad would be cool to know... im using cubasis 3 and spotify, i use cubasis to play gt and would like to volume down the spotify sound...

I agree that Voicemeeter is not that user friendly
Apple Music has lossless audio as well. Also, Mac comes with a software that lets you do loopback built into the OS.
what? I have an m3 Mac, your telling me there's internal software I can use to route into my daw? can I ask what it is and how do you do it?
Hi, Chris thanks for the superb video. So enlightening :)). I've tried with Banana, but the result was a crackle output. It's hard to control the latency after applying this voice meter input.
hey im using b2 signal in track audio is open but sound from speaker not open

Of course!
Can I record in my daw audio file to work offline if I want?

Wait, I have something even better that I will talk about on my next video... And it's also FREE 😏

I have the exact same issue with my UR824. A bit frustrating...
Yes, a lot of audio interfaces like the one you mention will have Loopback that works at 50% and not how it should work unfortunately
same ur 44 for me, as in my comment, use SAR SYNCRONOUS AUDIO ROUTER (if you are on win)
What about downloads? Let's say I download an aac file from iTunes, then convert it to a .wav to make it compatible to Cubase. Is that a lossless file? Has it been loudness normalized?
Excellent video, Chris! I didn't know, I needed to know this!
Glad it was helpful!
Loopback by RogueAmoeba would be the best tool for this on Mac, I think.
Awesome, thanks for sharing the info!
Any free version that u have seen?
@@fashowla Jack Audio Connection Kit
using the ssl2+ using voice meter I'm still unable to get audio out from Cubase 11 pro.... any tips?
Nice, didnt know that. I have a related question. If you have more than 4 outputs on your interface, yes!
for windows there is an extra thing you can do to make this loopback works better
you can specify what output every app use
for example :
chrome: voicemeeter input
other apps : your main headphone
so only sounds coming from chrome will be looped back instead of all sounds in your computer

for me I use apollo interface + asiolink
they work great with each other
and I can use virtual channels from my audio interface for loop back or more complex routing
but I think that I've tried all methods on this video before
Good tip :-)
Hi Chris! I want to start live streaming me mixing for educational purposes for a friend of mine. Could you show how this could be possible?
You mean only your friend watches your stream? if so, check this video ua-cam.com/video/78vJWvfP38Y/v-deo.html
the heck, i do feel like a geek pirate, thanks bro i love u, ( no homo)
Lol!
thnxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx very very much
Most welcome
Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?
I’m so sorry. I couldn’t resist.
LOL
I followed the steps, cant get it to work.. I have signal in VoiceMeeter but cant get a connection to cubase audio track! HELP!!
That's an old video, I'm actually gonna make a new one very soon with a new free plugin I now use for this, called Sessionwire...

I usually get the audio and format it to WAV and then just load it in a track , I suppose this is very old school !?
Not old school at all
