Been watching the UAD VIDEO WITH THE GIANT NUMBER OF CHANNELS on there interface (When I only have the Apollo twin so it gets intimidating not knowing if you’re missing things or don’t know how to operate it to its full capacity) for over a year now and you just showed me how to do it in less than 5 minutes! Gotta love UA-cam UNIVERSITY ! Thanks bruh!
NOTE: This procedure works correctly for everything EXCEPT the Google Chrome browser which has a known bug where it does not route audio through virtual channels properly. For Chrome you ALSO need to route the "2.0 Surround" configuration in Audio Device setup to VIRTUAL 1/2.
John, I can'r thank you enough for this comment. I have been frustrated for years trying to find the answer as to why I can't route sound through my Apollo Twin. I actually gave up going over the same procedure without success until I accidentally saw your post. I took your advise and it worked immediately. Thank You!
I was able to figure it out... Not explained well. I train people and sometimes your students need context. Like the "audio/midi" settings. I would tell them "now go to your mac settings and search midi. They will need the linking word. The word that links an action to another action. Anyway, this helped me. I was trying to get my computer audio into Pro Tools. Worked great. Thanks.
A go around: Use 2 computers Computer 1 audio out to 1/4 inch input to interface on computer 2. Simple recording. It may come in as mono but you have the recordings.
This is a fantastic video! Thank you!!! I think I know the answer to the following question but I’m going to ask it anyway…once you set up the routing of the mac audio to the Apollo on a virtual channel, you have to always have the Apollo on to hear the compute audio correct?
Good question, I don't think so because mac should be able to tell if that route is not available. If that becomes and issue, you can always switch those settings, but I've never had that problem!!

I have different saved settings for my Apollo when recording vocals, vocal and acoustic, my fractal etc. Never thought of creating a virtual channel for the mac. This is fantastic. I like to jam along with jam tracks on UA-cam. Now I can record that easily. Thanks again
Nice vid! I'm using the analog inputs to connect my AxeFX, and the output of that is routed to Monitor. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to record the software output (youtube/spotify) while I play guitar, and have the guitar not end up in the virtual channel mix. Basically recording within logic having 1 stereo channel for the youtube output, without that channel also recording the sound of the guitar (which I need to be able to hear). Any ideas how to do that? I'm thinking maybe have the Guitar turned all the way down in the main mix, but have a cue mix? But even then, it's part of the "speaker output" of the Apollo and so I'd think it would route to the Virtual Channel. I know that if I record the audio by itself and then play guitar over it that'll work, but sometimes I just want to get right to it and not have to do a second pass with no guitar so that I can mute/edit the guitar performance.
Hey! That's an interesting setup. I have a couple ideas of how to do this. The easiest option I think would be to use Virtual for your tracks only and then route guitars to a cue output (headphone jack) or line out. You could also use third party software on mac to route your UA-cam audio to specific outputs which would be handy. Let me know if this helps!
Hi there, thanks for the useful info. Questions for you. I use Cubase, am I supposed to put the "System" channel we created on Console as an input on the "system" track I created inside my DAW? Doesn't show up in the list. I can assign Virtual 1 or 2, but they don't show up as linked and my mac's audio doesn't seem to pass though. Also, when I play a track on my Mac, the "system" track we created in Console is peaking like crazy, as if the signal was doubled. Any idea? Thank you!
Hi thank you! Just renaming tracks in console doesn’t change the name or routing in your daw. You can set your mac speakers output to any of the virtual busses. Not sure about the clipping issue.

Even though i see my mac’s audio does go through those linked virtual channels in Console, they don’t appear linked in my Daw, and even if I select Virtual 1 as an input in an audio track, it should at least get the left side signal but I get nothing.
Really useful, I got the virtual 1/2 working on console but I can’t find a way to receive signal from ableton, I tried every combination of I/O configuration on Ableton but no sound from any channel. It’s weird cause I usually route Ableton’s master back to Virtual 1/2 with outputs 19/20, but it doesn’t work the other way around. Anybody got the same issue?
I think console automatically prevents you from using duplicates to avoid feedback loops. Basically you can't have the same cues/viruals going in Ableton and Console at the same time. Try getting rid of all that routing in ableton, close out, re-do console, and start over. I had this problem doing live rigs for shows and if you use the apollo cue outputs or line outs in ableton, they are automatically disabled in console and vice versa. Does that make any sense? let me know if that works.
Hi, perhaps you can help. I am about to smash my Apollo to bits... again... No matter what i do, Logic is recording my backing track which is on channel two, onto my guitar track ! It is recording backing track + guitar on channel one where only my guitar should be. Is is auto bouncing or something ? OMG what a hideous piece of crap, this Apollo... Been watching UA-cam for half a day to get this solved...
For some reason you can't use Chrome to do this but it works with Safari. A whole lot easier than having to download an entire audio file just for one clip.

I actually do not use luna so I don’t know! I’d imagine you have some routing options but you certainly need to use the audio midi setup still.

This is great!! but i cant seem to set it up with sonarworks without aplying the room correction to it, wich is not ideal :(

Hi! Go to Console > Settings > I/O. Manually set all the inputs so that they are input 1, input 2, etc. and get rid of anything you aren't using.

You can def do with windows but my tutorial is mac specific!
Spotify or youtube dont go through the virtual 1/2, only some websites so far
