you two slay me every time....Epica.. is love and light....your intensely joyful reaction is very common.among folks who appreciate true beauty. Epica has no flaws....it has something for everyone to enjoy in proper proportions.....please consider reacting to Simone's masterpiece ballad - canvass of life.
I love symphony music, until i discovered metal, then I heard their music for the first time 10 yrs ago or so. Until now, i still love them, even though Simone changed her style in singing, forever and ever, Epica will be in my heart. Hehehe.
This is my GO TO song when I introduce people to Epica. This was the first time I experienced Epica and I have watched this DVD at least 50 times..lol. Thanks for getting to this one. This is what got me into symphonic metal.
Great!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Fun fact - this is the very first song Epica has produced. Simone is about 19 years old in this video! If you liked it, try Sensorium, The Phantom Agony and Feint from the same studio session.
Wow! Finally someone thats understand me! Phantom Agony in this studio version and Kingdom of Heaven live. They are so cool live and they transmite that vibe to the crowd
From this same studio session, you will definitely want to check out Simone's acoustic cover of Memories, The Theme From Cats. It's just Simone, the two main choir voices including Amanda Somerville, and Coen Janssen on grand piano. Very beautiful. I think she blows away all the other many versions of Cats that have been done!
Simone is lovely. So glad she recovered her health. The blonde singer (also great) is Amanda Sommerville and covered for Simone/Epica when she was sick. Another Dutch darlin'. Simone's married to the keyboard player of Kamelot. The "Oceanborn" album by Nightwish was a major influence on Simone. Mark Jansen was in After Forever with Floor Janssen (not related, now of Nightwish) before he began Epica.
Amanda Somerville is actually from my state of Michigan :) Though she has lived in Europe for awhile now and is married to After Forever's lead guitarist.
Just a little bit info for you both, the blonde lassie in the choir is Simone Simons vocal coach Amanda Sommerville, also a predominat vocalist in the world of metal. Great reaction guys 🤘🤘
I remember a couple of years ago at The Proms at the Royal Albert Hall they had an "Ibiza Prom", where an orchestra played dance music anthems alongside the original singers. It's not my usual thing, but it just WORKED. The violinists and the woodwind section were up on their feet dancing while they played. The atmosphere was INCREDIBLE. I'm sure it's on UA-cam somewhere, Kel.
One of my favorite bands of all time.I would recommend reading the lyrics if you listen again,an entirely new view ,Still gives me chills after 15 or so years.Another band i would recommend is Dream Theater and a great song Change of Seasons but put aside 23 plus minutes
you're in life "together" and that's the reason you love being Together. you feed off of each others energy and compliment each other. It's genuine and easy for the outsider looking in to see an example of how a healthy relationship should be. You 2 are perfect together. ]:)

Beautiful morning! Thanks for the Epica reaction. Great group with tons of amazing songs. Feel like maybe I got dressed down a little bit by Rich but that’s okay. I will never stop advocating for symphonic metal. It’s part of my soul!!
I love all of the "Beauty and the Beast" symphonic matal bands. Please try something from Within Temptation's Black Symphony live concert. You guys are awesome!
Achingly beautiful. The music, too. Metal has so many flavors. No other genre, short of classical I guess, is so multi-flavored. Heavy, Hair, Glam, Progressive, Power, Pagan, Punk, Hardcore, Thrash, Trash, Navel Gazing, Grunge, Industrial, Symphonic, Speed, Folk, Viking, Drinking, Depressive, Melodic, Black, Post Black, Symphonic Black, Instrumental, Instrumental Black, Death, Melodeath, Doom, Funeral, Fantasy, Thud, Cosmic, Atmospheric, Atmospheric Black and undefinable... It starts sounding ridiculous. I can see why some people have had it up to their eyeballs with all the different divisions, but if the mind is open to lots of flavors it's like a da'gone candy store!
#Amorphis "Amongst Stars" Steve from Omaha. Don't worry there are hardly any growls in the song. It's also a duet with Anneke Van Giersbergen, a fantastic female vocalist.
You two are sweet! With you all along! Make it 50 mins and I will follow - because this is genuine interaction. And clever, too! ;) On EPICA... it amazes me that even after a dozen or so years listening, I can still get something new out of those seemingly not-too-complicated songs. Like, on this vid I just noticed how well Mark's growls go over a friggin' flute accompaniment! \m/ Jeez, they should do this more often!! Simone, I love to death, but still especially partial to this, her darkened "young" voice. What depths can it explore, shivers. As you may have noticed lately she's been using sweet higher tones as a rule, only reverting to the mezzo range at select spots - but with overwhelming effect! Overall their first DVD, off which comes the present cut, was what made me the band's fan - they were so organic, involved and IN LOVE with what they were creating, I was almost a big bundle of goosebumps for the whole ride! From the same studio masterpiece, try #EPICA - "The Phantom Agony", or "Feint"... The chamber-choral Metal at its best - and only their first step to the spotlight... Just how TALENTED those guys are. They got even deeper and more progressive with time but never lost that spark of amazement in their eyes. Btw, reaction to any song by EPICA would usually make a great medium for deeper "rethoric" discussions... As they (between, Mark, Coen and Simone) have never settled for easy lyrics. In fact their catchiest songs are usually home to the heaviest lyrics.
cool to see you guys do another song by Epica. You picked up perfectly that they have indeed a lot of fun when performing. I have seen them live once so far and i wtinessed the same fun at the concert. I do not know if you payed attention to the lyrics but they are among the best out there. This song is actually about the cover-up culture of the catholic church when all these abuse cases showed up. A little background story to this recording itself. This was actually a recrded for a Dutch tv program called the "2 meter sessions" (the lenght of the presenter) . Normally they only invited wellknown artist, arranged a studio, and gave then give them free reign to record songs in ways a normal record company would never allow it. The only exception to this rule was #Epica because the presenter and the producer of the show were so heavilly impressed by their debut album. They recorded 9 songs in that 1 day and released cd/dvd from it called "We will take you with us". One of best cd's i ever bought. The reason that the band is as good as they are is that a large part of the band has a classical music education. The guy with the growling voice is the person that founded the band when he left "After forever" . Does that sound familiar to you? His name is Mark Jansen and he was part of this band together with Floor (and no they are not related). He goofs arround a lot so found it hard to believe he was one creative minds behind the band until i saw an interview with him at home. He was being deadly serious when he started talking about creating music and how he layered each song. In his work erea the books lined the wall about psychology and history and religion. Then it made whole of lot more sense. I would like to make another recokmmendation from that same show a song called "Feint". The song is about a real assasination of a Dutch politician (Pim Fortuyn) that could have been our next PM and that litterly came out of nowhere (he was not part of any of the big parties). The song is mostly about the after effects on society. It is a stellar performance from Simone and the ballad itself is just heart-breakingly beautiful. Here is the link of the clip with the lyrics included. ua-cam.com/video/FNTaIz5cABY/v-deo.html

The song that got me into Epica, I must have listened to this on repeat for hours. Since then seen them live 3 times and they are stunningly good.
