Just cut copy paste and edit or do you like what you think is right for your area these I think are coming from Tel Aviv and other areas around Israel where the average is! Update give the averages around Israel I appreciate it I’ve got a lot of work into finding the information…..

    It’s cost ridiculously too expensive in US you make much more money and you can live for a half a price. In israel people working for three weeks just to pay the rent.

    • @miriamstrauss

      You can definitely live in some places in America for half the price, but NYC, LA, and other more popular places in America cost more I think (but you do also get paid more in most cases so that’s true)

      That’s very sad about your friend. Israel isn’t for everyone, but for many there is no other place on earth we would rather be even with rockets raining down on us. In north Israel though it is very difficult right now. I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t want to be there right now. But I am surprised your friend didn’t have medical coverage. Are they not a citizen? All citizens would have. And if they were a tourist or on a student visa, I’d expect they would have travel health insurance. Also, I think the government covers expenses for damages relating to terror attacks so they probably would have covered it anyway

      I personally continue to work remotely for the same company that I worked for in America so I did not have to find a new job (in fact, I helped the company build an Israeli branch). But for you, I would expect A LOT of opportunities to work either in the high tech sector or the pharmaceutical industry as a US labor licensed patent attorney. You might not get paid 100% of what you can make in America, but I bet you will get paid at the top end of what Israel can offer. Also, you might be able to negotiate equity if you work for a startup, which might pay off even greater in the long run

    wow only 72 usd (~230 nis ) on groceries, where are you shopping? I spend at least that and usually more in reg. small shopoping trips, when I do a big shop its upwards of 1200-1500 nis (or more. This is in Jerusalem for myself.
    Btw there's also a way to lower your student low payment significantly, as long as you're working and earning outside of the US. If you can significantly reduce your AGI (which can be done via tax exemptions) you can apply for an income-based payment schedule - I'm not an accountant but this was brought to my attention by an accountant helping file my US return. Maybe something to look into for a future video

    • @miriamstrauss

      I don’t like income based repayment because the interest will swallow you and you will be paying the rest of your life. Back when I only had to pay $800 based on my income per month, I actually would choose to pay $1500-$2000 per month because the interest is so high. Currently the interest is zero though so I’m not paying until I have to or the interest goes back up.

      That's a personal question to ask yourself. For me personally, there is nowhere on earth I feel safer to be a jew. The center of the country is mostly stable in terms of security, but the southern and northern regions are closer to the conflict and less secure. But at any point things can escalate. In general, most people living in Israel can live an ordinary and safe life right now as long as you don't go too far north.

    • @miriamstrauss
      @miriamstrauss  Рік тому

      I had some text on the screen at a later moment explaining that I also had miscellaneous charges of $121 and that was probably also groceries. so it was really like $200 in groceries most likely. It only included a bit of protein (eggs, a little meat) but not much. I buy all of the produce, veggies, fruits, grains, milk, etc. and my husband buys the protein because he's a bigger protein eater and is more picky and likes to go to his butcher. So this is my personal out of pocket costs for the month because my husband and I keep our finances entirely separate. But, I also would have spent less on produce if I didn't also buy for him, so on average I think $200 seems close to what I would have spent just living alone in that month anyways. Nowadays though, I do spend a bit more. I'll be doing an updated video when we move to Ramat Gan in a few months so stay tuned for that. My expenses have increased quite a bit. Also, if you are American you can be here on a travel visa for 3 months at a time and if you take a brief break and leave briefly, then come back - the clock resets. So as long as you don't need to work or a work visa, you can spend huge chunks of your retirement here if you had a seasonal home. I'm not familiar with Haifa rental prices, but they have a big Christian community there so it sounds lovely for you!

    Can you tell me what the cost of living is in a Modern Orthodox community? As well as other expenses? We are seniors so is there an area where it wouldn't be too expensive? I wrote this to you in January 2022 so if you can do a breakdown I will appreciate it. Today Rabah

      I'm not familiar with many orthodox communities and the costs of living in them, but it depends on city and it can widely vary. It's tough to say. Also, it depends on the size of the place you are looking for any many other factors.

      The Aliyah isn’t meant to be enough money to live on. It’s just supposed to be a bit of extra money to help with the transition. I agree that some jobs don’t pay so well here but that has been changing quite a bit in the last 2 years! I think salaries will continue to go up at a rapid pace. Israel doesn't have the amount of land mass that US has and government owns over 90% of land so they decide what's developed/built. There is also over 55,000 per year of new immigrants coming in and most want to live in Jerusalem/Tel Aviv. That drives up cost.

Once you start your application, they assign you an advisor that you can reach out to with questions and who helps you with the process. It's a bit of paperwork and takes 4-6 months to complete the process, but it's totally worth it!
