Why doesn’t Kate just be inspired by Toby instead of being jealous he lost weight? At the end of the day it’s about health. He should have told her yes. But at some point you have to take responsibility for your own life.

Because that's not how emotions work, they have their own mind. The only benefit is that she identifies them and is asking for help

Probably because shes a stay at home mom to a special needs baby while Toby is away from the house not stepping up as a dad...

I think this story line is a turning point for Kate. Pretty much all the up to this point her thing was losing the weight. That was her goal. The way I've always interpreted this moment in her weight journey is her realizing that there are more important things for her to care about than her weight. She has a son who is blind that she needs to help navigate the world. In later seasons she is working in education and creating curriculum for special needs schools. This is the first time in like 30 years for Kate where she is not obsessing with her body. She was able to carry a baby and give birth; she understands now that her body is so much more than what it looks like. She thinks she's mad at Toby for having done something without her where it's more that she's realizing that this thing that brought them together is no longer there and what does that mean for their marriage.

please tell me i am not the only one that HATE kate with passion, she is such a toxic character, they way she treated and treats Rebecca is just so wrong, even toby, he deserves so much better than Kate

She knows what she feels is not right, she doesn't only have food issues but emotional issues but at least she knows them and she is trying to change them. Rebecca is not a perfect person and it's normal that Kate treats her bad sometimes, but then she realise it's not okay and she says I'm sorry. Every person without want it hurt their parents some time. Tell me you haven't been rude to your parents sometimes over nothing

Why do people in America say “the weight”? Isn’t it just “he lost weight” ?

Losing "the weight" insinuates the person used to be really fat and got to normal weight I think versus losing weight which could be insignificant like 5 pounds IMO

"the weight" directly refers to the fact that that person used to obviously carry around a lot of extra weight. It's more of an emphasis on the fact they've become "normal" or skinny. Losing weight is just a general way of wording it. Like, "I've lost weight... like 5 lbs".

I actually know what it means, but thanks for replies to explain. I was making a comment about how fattist the whole term is. Like a bogeyman. I’m sure people who are morbidly overweight feel like it is a bogeyman, but it’s weird how the us media reinforces the term. As you say, it implies ‘the weight’ makes people feel they are not normal. When being overweight exists on s spectrum. One doesn’t suddenly lose ‘the weight” and become ‘normal. Everything is relative, it’s not a binary thing.

It's more than numbers. I was always a big guy my entire life and always showed genuine confidence. Around junior year of college, I lost over 80 pounds during the spring semester. As the pounds went off people noticed me even more. I was always adored but I saw what my trainee told me would happen. Those same people who love you are going to love you even harder because the "weight" represents an old burden. Almost like a person who needs special attention. Everywhere I went people would go, "My guy you lost all that weight or you lost the weight!!!" I would stand there with smile thinking don't they know that I'm still in the process of being where I want to be?? Don't they understand that I lost weight, not a part of me?? I'm still that same guy just a bit lighter. So when people use the terms "that weight" or "the weight" they're referring to the person you were before the drastic life change.

I’d like to lose 15 IBS. I’m not overweight just slightly fluffier than I’d like. I wouldn’t call that “the weight” I’m thin. Obese folks do this .
