  • The conditions were as close to perfect as it gets. Blue sky, favorable wind etc.

      Mustafa, your command of the English language in written form is very, very good. This will certainly improve your employability prospects. Yes, Cherie and I had a very good day on the sand. He hope to do it again in the near future.

    It looks like Summer there. A terrific back drop for the eagle.

    So pleased you had another good day at the bay. Looked like it started out calm and strengthened later. Cherie was keeping a watch on that anchor. I am off to Christchurch to join some other flyers for a few days kiting. Very strange weather in New Zealand with a civil defence alert with unprecedented flooding in Auckland yet the South island is calm and sunny.

      Carl, we have been following the news about NZ weather. All any of yes can do is adapt. I am glad you and Sarah are going to get some kiting time in. I know it will be good.( fingers crossed). Stay well.

    Looked like a great day, Glenn. I'm leaving town for a few days, as some terrible fellow from Dunedin is visiting Christchurch this week as you have already heard. (Actually, we're looking forward to Carl's arrival as it's been a very long time since his last visit.)

      Kites, food and fellowship, the perfect trifecta. I'll be looking for a visual extravaganza, weather permitting.

    Not sure why this just showed up on my feed this morning, 13 days later. Looks great Glenn. Man, you sure are getting good at flying that eagle. It’s been amazing watching your skills progress.

      Happy New Year Kenny, I am glad UA-cam finally found me worthy! I am really in love with the eagle kite, hard as it is. I suppose Rev and slack line pilots feel the same way. Stay well my friend.

      1.1 M Green Tea eagle with carbon laminated wings. When the wind gets to 9mph, no more eagle for the day. Thanks for the comment, Wing.

      @@PanyingPilot Interesting to find carbon on the wings. is the carbon sandwiched between 2 layers of bamboo?

    • @PanyingPilot
      @PanyingPilot  Рік тому

      @@orangeglider Yes, Winglee carbon flat rod between two bamboo pieces. Tyvek paper wings and silk screen body. Carbon wings resist twisting, thus making adjustments difficult.

      @@PanyingPilot I think if you can find a strip of stainless steel and epoxy it to the leading edge, the metal strip would possibly allow you to override the carbon tension. Just thinking only. You have to glue to both wings for balance.

      And a big ol' bonfire. You would be surprised. It was wave scoured right to the dunes! Rocks, debris, you name it! We camped for the day above the tide line, but not above the storm tide line. Good news, filling the sand sacks was a breeze.

      @@PanyingPilot closest I got today was straightening out the bridles on those estate sale spinsocks. Also put on new swivels and carabiniers.

    • @PanyingPilot

      @@nicksgarage2 That is an accomplishment. Did you go with Sampo swivels? It would be nice if a permanently lubricated low friction swivel was made, perhaps something like a steel on teflon construction. Did you spring for expensive carabiners or just stock up on Harbor fright stuff, like I do?

    Hi Glenn this is Ronald Mazzotta from Massachusetts where can I get the Twirrly Pineapples Thanks Ron?

    • @PanyingPilot
      @PanyingPilot  Рік тому

      Hi Ron, you are not the only one who has asked. They were produced by Sound Winds/ Air Arts in the USA. I bought mine at the Washington State International Festivals back in 2013. Other than my colors, there was also a patriot themed spinner. They were relatively expensive at $40.00 each. They are no longer made as far as I can tell. My friendly advice is to search out a suitable alternative that is light and efficient and plan to buy enough to make a visual statement. Good hunting!

    Glenn, what wind range can the eagles be flown?

    • @PanyingPilot
      @PanyingPilot  Рік тому +1

      David, 1 to 6 mph is ideal. With no wind, I can get it out there but I will eventually pull it right back in because of slack line. When the wind gets to around 9mph, the air pressure on the wings magnifies any imperfections from construction or prior use. The effect is it failing to turn in both directions. Worse still, the wing warp will drive it into the ground when gliding to the extreme edge of its wind window. In the latest video, you will note both the angular speed and the swiftness of the rise. The wind was around 7mph and uneven, coming off the land. Critically, I fly with .8PE braided fishing line with a breaking strength of 15 lb. With the end knot, I estimate more like 12lb. So when the wind comes up and the bird is a hundred or more feet above me, I am understandably nervous.
