  • Alcohol ink painting on canvas not primed. This is a funny and chatty time-lapse video where I talk about why I enjoy using inks on both unprimed and primed canvas. Sporadic dumb jokes are of course included.

    YOU MADE IT HERE!!! The comment section is waiting for you! So what do you think.....reds or blues?? (ALSO, to be fair…most store bought canvas have a layer of gesso but I find it’s very thin. So this canvas was not prepped with any ADDITIONAL gesso.)

      It was a really enjoyable process! Just be prepared to use a lot of ink or to be okay with a slightly less vibrant look. ( or just use your most vibrant possible inks)

    Just stunning! I must try this out since I have only used paper so far. Would never have thought to try canvas if I hadn't stumbled on your video. Thanks for the technique and inspiration.

      Haha honestly! I LOVED doing the inks on canvas over yupo paper! The problem is my inks aren't high quality so they fade! I highly recommend trying canvas!

    The patterns you create with this particular alcohol ink technique bring to mind two very different things for me: a portal in the space time continuum 🪐or an inside view of organ systems within the body 🫀🧠. I’m definitely leaning toward the latter here with this colour choice, which I very much appreciate as a biologist.

      That is such cool observations! Actually, one of my favorite things is to hear what others see, or to see what feelings a painting evokes! Thanks for sharing that with me! I appreciate your comments and support to this channel!

    I’m so glad I came across this. I’ve been using alcohol and can we’ve been even teaching classes in it and doing cards and then going to something bigger but we’re doing it on just yupo It’s absolutely amazing that you can do it on canvas. I never even thought of that. Good for you. I can’t wait to see all of your stuff amazing.

      I am so happy to receive your comment. Yeah canvas is a cool way to use alcohol ink. I have videos showing canvas that I added additional gesso and ones I used fresh out of the plastic. I think I started this way because I was struggling to get my hands on synthetic paper. THANK YOU for the comment! I appreciate it

    I love the idea of using alcohol inks on canvas and yours looks awesome! However, i don't like how much ink is sucked up. So, I started looking for ways to use AI on canvas but so that it doesn't use so much ink. I found a video that shows how to do that by using a couple of different products. I cant remember the process off the top of my head but it involves using Kilz 2 and another product or two. It really makes the canvas work as close to Yupo type paper than anything else i have seen. I'm sorry I don't remember it all but i saved it somewhere. Plus, even if i could remember the name of the channel i wouldn't want to put it on here without your permission. So, i guess my point is that anyone interested in learning how to prime a canvas for alcohol ink that doesn't involve just gesso can find it on UA-cam. Maybe on the search add Kilz 2 to the other search terms one is using and it may come up. I do have one set cheap inks so i will try those just on regular canvas as you showed here. Thanks for showing this!

    Aren’t pre-stretched canvases not sized already? Some come with a layer of gesso, and I assume you can get unprimed canvas that’s stretched, but I guess what I’m asking is : doesn’t the sizing prevent the inks from absorbing? Would raw canvas be just a waste on alcohol inks? …So many questions! 😁. Thank you for getting my creative thoughts going!

    • @SezCreate
      @SezCreate  4 місяці тому +1

      Keep em coming!!! I’ll try to answer your questions as best I can. Firstly, when I mentioned the canvas was unprimed I meant I didn’t do anything to it before I started painting but you are right…some canvases come with gesso. Some seem more primed than others and I swear I have seen some that seem like plastic. The alcohol inks are so thin so they will still absorb into the material but yeah….it really uses ALOT! I am just using super cheapo inks for this so I didn’t care. So, all depends on the look you are wanting. I gesso’d one canvas before and it was okay but I really like the soft look on the ….”fresh out of the plastic“ canvas. Hope that makes a bit of sense!

    Ok love this video, love the mix up with the colours, although blues and greens are what I’m normally drawn to myself. I love variety though! It’s so relaxing and should I say exciting too to see how the picture appears. I find I like guessing your next move and love when I’m surprised by where you take it. Does that make sense.
    Question, for a beginner would you recommend the canvass with no gesso first as it doesn’t move around as much? Or something with more?

    • @SezCreate
      @SezCreate  Рік тому

      I feel the same way about the colors!! And that is a great question! Honestly, it somewhat depends on what a person expects from their painting. If they want to just explore and see what happens, I would recommend putting a coat or two of gesso. ( or another primer ). If you have a specific plan, you know exactly where you want the painting to go and you want to it be soft....then I would recommend the method I used today. You have to COMMIT more with no extra gesso.

    • @SezCreate
      @SezCreate  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, can I ask what part you are asking about being water? The subject is abstract. I am using alcohol inks for the color and I move them around with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. I didn't use water to make this, but the picture might look like a sunset on water. Does that help? ( thanks for watching and commenting!!! )
