Blur screen on sign-in: make it go away. Also, I think starting with 1809, the Registry is not backed up anymore automatically. I think that this may impact "create a restore point" - because it's never worked properly when I have tried to restore a previous point. There is a way to force the Task Manager to do this every day.
@@sevengenerations8879 Well, that is a dumb decision from Microsoft. Registry is very important component of Windows and having a problem in it may make Windows or a program function incorrectly and having no backup is pretty problematic if that ever happens...
Thank you so much. I was a Windows user for decades and remember even using DOS to do shit. I converted to Mac when Windows versions hit the fan, and vista rubbed me the wrong way. It might have contributed, that my then new partner was an avid software developer only using MacOS and/or linux. So with him around, i had tech support for mac since it was so different. I recently watched him forced to deal with windows 10 on one of his projects and i liked what i saw. He built me a new pc and i got Windows 10 again. But it was like learning from scratch again. You, young man has helped me a lot. I go through your videos atm, and would like you to know that the way you express yourself and how clearly and perfect pace you choose when explaining...is brilliant. And you still manage to skip the “fluff” that i see from others. Keep it up!
I worked for telstra for 33 years and we used every MS programme from DOS up to Win 7 . They didn't go further than that and end giving us Samsung tablets in the field . Use Play store apps they said . They lost 6-10 months productivity due to smashing a square peg into a round hole cause they didnt upgrade MSoft . Yet they had 2 major bits of software designed in the 80's ( not privately available ) thats was the back bone of every other programme in existence, linking or having data come from those , to give work from customers . I myself have u/G'd this PC from W7 to W10 , my 13th one since 1993 , but use a Macbook pro laptop . I shudder when you say Vista lol
A big omission in your Windows 10 series I consider the lack of a video about File Explorer - the program that users use most often. Yes, renewed File Explorer first appeared in Windows 8, but most people switch from Windows 7 directly to Windows 10 (including me, still on Windows 7). And the File Explorer in it is so much better than what was in Windows 7. I appreciate the new Ribbon interface, but most of all I appreciate the *customizable Quick Access Toolbar* . Similar to Microsoft Office, it allows you to pin only the necessary buttons / commands on a separate panel or in the title bar without taking up extra space, having direct access to them, even if the Ribbon is hidden. Many people simply don't know or don't think about this great possibility, and I'm amazed that there are practically no videos about this on UA-cam. For me, this is one of the main advantages in the new versions of Windows. The toolbar in Windows 7's (File) Explorer was terrible and useless.
One of the first changes is Right Click on Recycle Bin > Properties > check "Display Delete Confirmation Dialogue" > This setting was always on by default until Windows 10 - now it's off by default. This is a problem if you delete a file by accident. This way, you get the message "Are you sure you want to delete these 10,925 files?" or whatever.
Thank you for the straight spoken tutorial. It was easy to listen to and follow along. There are so few of these online (That are easy to find) Great job!
Thank you. By the way, your presentation was clear, perfectly paced, intelligent visuals, just everything was perfect. Not sure I understand what the new strings do.
I really like these videos where you help fine-tune Windows and help us make the most of our PC. I changed a few settings again from this video. Great job!
(1st tip - just adjust your screens resolution so you can read all too small texts to avoid squinting.) Next select your documents-folder, select properties, select the tab location and change it to another drive or partition, create a new folder called my docs, select this folder and click apply - when asked to transfer all files, click yes. This way all your files will remain safe when you re-install a new clean windows-setup. You can do this for all special-personal-folders like pictures, music, video & desktop. Just don't forget to regularly make an external back-up of your personal files on a USB-drive to prevent total-loss in case of a hardware failure...
Where I would agree that 'dark mode' can be easier on the eyes ... especially during those late night sessions ... there is one major exception. When red ... especially text ... is placed on a black background it causes the eye to stress focus (strain) because there is a perception of 'floating text'. It's worse with bold fonts or stationary vs. moving graphics. Translation ... it will cause headaches and can trigger migraines. The problem exists with other color combinations to a much lesser degree and is usually passed off as eye fatigue. But red ... that's a whole different story. I'm not an MD so I don't know the medical reasons ... just an engineer who took some courses on perceptual and color psychology to better design GUIs.
I already applied all these settings, when I was scrolling through settings on a wonderful day. Except indexing and other registry settings shown in the video.
The first thing I do when buying a new computer with Windows is to go to power options and change the settings from "balanced" to "high performance". I don't want my computer to get vastly lower performance just to save some energy. For some reason the default is that "balanced" option.
If you have done one or plan to do one for MS Office products, especially Excel, one that I always do and wish others would do, too, is to change the default setting for vertical alignment to Top (preferred) or Center (better than Bottom but not as good as Top) instead of the factory-set Bottom (I don't like this one at all). Unfortunately, there is no easy setting to make this the default. I have to Google every time I have a newly-installed Excel since I never remember how to do this. It would be nice if you could recommend setting Vertical alignment to Top (or Center) and show us how to do this.
I have Windows 10 Pro on most of the devices on my home network and the first thing that I do after the install is get rid of the clutter on the start menu, like programs and games that I have no use for, AKA Bloatware. :-)
My first setting that I change is mouse cursor speed. I set it to max. It's one of those things that will have you hours over the years and you would be amazed at how soon you adapt to it.
Me: -Disable Cortana, Search, Task view and People on taskbar. -Set combine taskbar buttons to never -Enable This PC icon on desktop -Set sleep and turn off display to never -Set power and sleep buttons to do nothing -Disable hibernation -Disable all the animate, slide, fade in/out visual effects in performance settings. -Turn on remote desktop
@kevin fitzpatrick I ran Ubuntu a decade ago. I don't like it. I have way too much interest in way to many things with computers to learn a whole new OS environment and dozens of individual applications assuming there are replacements for all the software I require which I doubt as little of it is cross-platform. Also, I'm getting old. I no longer have the time to switch everything over or the patience either. Not enough hours in the day, not worth it to me. Christ, I'm slowly turning into an old persons that doesn't get how the technology works anymore and can't be bothered hahaha I just want things to work painlessly, nice and simple, no more messing around with configurations and stuff. On a home network, I go to Device Manager, Network Adapters > Power Management and turn off [uncheck] "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". I may want to copy files from one computer to another. If Windows 10 has decided to turn off the network adapter to save power on a computer I haven't used in a little while, then copying files won't work, everything will time out and the universe explodes.
