Fellow listeners (and McMontelbatt boys, if you're paying attention to the comments here), I have a conundrum. My partner and I bonded in part over our shared love of McElroy creations. One of the ones we don't currently share is Blart, which I listen to faithfully and my partner so far has not. They're interested in listening, however, there is one thing holding them back. They want to watch the film Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 before listening to the podcast. I, however, have never watched Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and never intend to do so, preferring my experience of this august podcast to remain an enigmatic projection of the McMontelbatt 5's perspectives. I respect my partner's preference to watch the movie first, and I don't foresee that being a source of conflict between us if they would just watch it already. However, given that it's a piece of shit flick, they've been reluctant to actually bite that bullet. I want to share this wonderful podcast with my partner. But without actually being able to sit down with them and sit through it myself, how can I encourage them to see this movie? And if I do, how can I live with myself afterward?
this may be an unpopular opinion in the deathblart-watching world, but i think paul blart 1 is a genuinely funny and well-made comedy/action movie. it has the added benefit of being a rare thanksgiving/black friday movie, as opposed to a christmas movie, which gives it a special niche. my suggestion is you sit down next black friday and enjoy PBMC1 together, your partner can give in to the temptation to follow it up with the sequel (ive never seen it either and can't speak to the relative quality) while you hold out, then consume deathblart together
sit them down to watch it, pull up the audio track they made (2020 i think?) and listen to it with them, but make them wear headphones (maybe on one ear only) and avert your eyes from the screen so youre just listening to the podcast
What if you sit behind the tv while your partner watches it with headphones on? That way you're there for moral support but you won't be actually watching or hearing the movie.

The moustache is even better than I imagined listening to the podcast 😀
