I had this on cassette of this song when it came out. I didn’t pay attention to this song until I got older. I had years of my life when I worked with my hands. I know hard, honest work.
Beautiful & timely song given the pace at which technology is replacing human labor.
I joined a company 30 years ago, in Ireland, they had a big Xmas do, guitars, everyone singing all the Irish ballads, then they turned on me "The Englishman", come on Paul give us a song, so I sang this, of course none of them new it, so I was on my own. Fortunately I can hold a note and I blew them away. I swear the place was silent, then applause and free drinks all night. Now I'm Irish.
