The last time I went to a salon for a cut or color or anything was in 2002. I have been cutting, treating, coloring, and styling my own hair since then. I used to be a hairstylist and I found that its easier to give myself what I want better than anyone else can 🙂
I am an old white woman...I have COVID hair. I decided not to cut my hair. Started in 2020 with #2 blade cut. Now it's 2024 and it's shoulder blade length. I use your Stainless Steel Shampoo & Conditioner... And now I know what to call the fuzzies at the end of my hair.
I'm a kitchen stylist. I've been doing my hair since I was 9 years old & I got sick of my momma & 75 ponytails, lol. I now have 2 girls with heads full of hair. So anytime I can get to the salon, I treat myself cause a sister be tired. I love watching the care & precision you put into each crown you do. You can just tell you truly love what you do. One of these days, I'm gonna be able to get in your chair! Her hair is truly a work of beauty!!!
I do my hair at home, and I have been doing my hair, since I was 12 years old, and I am 69 years old now. I am a retired Cosmetologist. These days I mostly blow dry it, and braid it up because I have fine strands, and it is too hot in the south to press my natural hair. Her hair is beautiful. I love watching you do hair. It is relaxing to me.
I do my own hair - cut, color, trim, curl, everything! Started since 2007 and haven't looked back to the salon since. Water, oil, and grease are my hair's best friends.
I straighten my hair at least 6 times a month and normally during the winter. I learned to do it during Covid times and while I never had a bad salon experience, it did alleviate my anxiety whenever I went to the salon. I suggest everyone learn to do their own hair if they’re able to❤
I haven’t been to a salon since 2010. Fun fact, you are the only stylist that I ever been to, and this is when you were on 44th and chestnut. Since then I’ve been doing my own hair.
I do mine at home since pre-pandemic. I remember and still watch when you gave us the lesson on how to trim at home. Trimmed mine at home before but your method is much better that what I did prior, always done it with professional shears tho. Health over length, health over length…I’ve learned and the length is coming. ❤ Thaaaank youuuuu for helping us!
Yay first! I've always done my hair at home since I mostly wear it curly/natural anyway. I used to go to the salon (rarely) for a silk press (like 1-2x/year). I've recently perfected the silk press on my own and as soon as i learn to trim my ends it's over for everybody lol. I'll of course be using your self trim tutorial when I do it! Also I have very dense, long type 4 hair and I kind of got the vibe that some stylist didnt really want to deal with it unfortunately
Another Sunday Super Sermon for haircare and life hacks. Thanks for the tips. I have been doing my hair way before the pandemic because finding a quality stylist has been a disappointing expensive struggle. I am still on the lookout for a place to go that will care for my hair when I have a special occasion, but until then I remain dedicated to doing things at home and getting the right equipment to get the results I want. I own a steamer, heating cap and use them on a regular. I used your video to trim my hair and don't bother with heat 95% of the of the year until I need a trim. Thanks for sharing your methods and your talent with us here on UA-cam!
My hairdresser retired rather suddenly during covid lockdowns & I've been on my own ever since. I thank God for you, Kee! My hair is healthier than it's ever been. 🙌🏻❤️🔥 Not long, but healthy.
I so glad that you're back on on a frequent basis I've been missing the shears a lot of times they be sold out. I do hope you'll come out with your own product line that will be even better. This trim was needed as it split ends with showing. Let us know about conditioners that are non-alcohol non-sulfate ingredients. I hope that you will come even with more colors green should be next for your flat irons with the chase comb and a hot pink arroyo blue would be good as well 📢‼️🤩🎯🙋🏻♀️😎
Whenever I watch you work with hair, I just dream about having someone with your talents and blessed hands to help me on this "third coast", the Gulf Coast. Thank you for all the tips about heat damage prevention.❤ In the meantime, I will continue with caring for my hair at home.
I absolutely love your work. I am always stoked to see a new video from you! To answer your question about doing hair at home because of the pandemic: I have always done my hair at home, I occasionally go to the salon, the pandemic changed how many pieces of equipment I have purchased from Sally's tho. I did a big chop last year 😅 It wasn't good, but luckily it was only on myself. I posted a bashful photo on Instagram and I really appreciated you liking it. You and HairguruCarla are two of my most favorite UA-cam channels.❤🎉😊 - big fan from the west coast
I love your videos. I gain so much knowledge when watching. I enjoy going to the salon. I would literally go every two weeks like I did back in the day if prices where more affordable.
I do both! Quarterly professional silk presses plus being a kitchen beautician. But I’ve learned less is more and I’m changing up how i handle protective styles and what i consider a protective style.
I love that video on how to trim your hair, and yes, I do most of my 17:56 hair care at home except a big cut. Thank you for your knowledge of your hair care.
You taught me how to trim my hair, and I thank you so much. ❤ I've done my hair most of my life. Even more now, because my hair grows more when I'm doing myself.
I learned a lot over the pandemic on how to care for my hair. I still go for a trim, because I prefer a professional trim. I do more wash & go, because the summer does fight back. I literally walk outside and my hair draws up.
I'm from NYC so I used to get my natural hair silk pressed at the Dominican hair salons for $25 every 2 weeks. I did this for years and years until 8 years ago I relocated to TX Austin outskirts and I've been doing my own hair since then.🙌🏾🙌🏾🤷🏾♀️
My childhood hairdresser basically forced me to learn how to take care of my own hair - she cut my damaged hair off without having a conversation!!! 😡😤😢I believe I was in the 10th grade, I was done after that and that was around 1989. So, I can French braid, two strand twist, straighten, curl and I clip my own ends! 👍🏽 However, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate some skills that I trust like yours. 🧡👏🏽👏🏽
Chile those fairy knots got me scared to wear an Afro again😂😂 I thought if I started wearing an Afro my hair would be thriving but um no it broke off bad. I didn't even realize it until I straightened my hair one day. Every Sunday I would wash/flexi rod my hair so I'm pretty sure that method was just too much for my hair. But I loved the way my hair looked that way. I did braid outs, wash/go and just the old 70s Afro way with just water/cream/pick it out. Baby that was too much work for me and my hair seemed dryer. So I just went to get box braids because I'm too lazy/busy to be worried about hair lol. I feel myself with a good flat ironed/sleek style but it's too hot outside so that's a no go for me too.
I started going to the salon (maybe every 6-8 weeks) in high school after I got a relaxer and bob. In college, I started maintaining my own hair more but with visits maybe 4 times a year for trims/touch ups. Now, I’m (straight) natural and outside of trims, I do my own hair (videos like yours have really help educate me about maintaining the health of my hair).
I do my hair. I used to go to the salon. You taught me how to trim my hair but I could not master the crown. So now I go to one of the chain places and get a trim. I use the chase method but I don't have a clip-on comb.
I did my own hair for almost 20 yrs. It grew to waist length and I decided to go to a salon in 2018 to have it pressed and professionally trimmed for a graduation. The stylist FRIED my hair, and I end up cutting off over 10" (myself) due to the damage. I now have a stylist that I go to once a year, to get my hair silk pressed and trimmed. She knows how to straighten natural hair. It took me almost 5 years to decide to try a stylist again.
I have been doing my own hair, (cut, color & style) since I was a teenager. I have not had good luck with others doing my hair! I love watching you work! Tfs 🫶🏾
Love your videos... I go to the salon for my relaxer, trim, highlights and once in awhile for a wash n set... I do my wash blowdry and flat iron at home
I'm a home salon person, I haven't been to the salon in about 25 years. I've tried all types of styles and trends, I've found my hair does best strech/pressed.
So happy to hear a PROFESSIONAL acknowledge that presses in summer don’t work if the hair isn’t “trained” I’ve been telling my ppl this for years but they think when they wash their hair and there’s just a wave in their hair it isn’t damaged 👀🫠 would love to know what styles you use during summer as a stylist 💕
Went to the salon during the early days of covid. Been doing my hair at home since early 2022 everything from press, wash & go to crochets...I do it all myaelf. I hope to one day get you in my hair, at least once.
I visit the salon for color every 4 weeks. On alternate visits, I get a trim, thanks to your advice. I should never have a flatiron or hair cutting scissors in my possession at any time!
New subscriber here ... 1st off, I love your energy and how you've educated me on how to maintain my hair. To answer your question, I do my own hair always have I feel right about now it's time get some t.l.c treatments for my hair. The problem is finding a beautician like yourself who would ask questions 1st and have that client to a stylist relationship.
I have your curling iron, I love it but I left it in its pretty case. I used the Tymo heat brush.. I also have the Dragon Her Strands of hair scissors. I typically wear in 2 strand twist but my ends were thinning, wash day hair catastrophe cleaning up all the hair and crunchy?? Sooo I straightened and cut the mess out of it, my lengths are everywhere. I don't wear ponytails yet that area was really broken. I went hard with the scissors there too. I used lots of heat protectant to see the ends, I may let it revert or go get flex rods tomorrow. Not decided yet. I've learned a lot from you and will keep tuning in to see how else to be self-sufficient. Thanks for teaching us.❤
I agree with your point about limiting heat. I blow dried my hair recently after not using heat since March. And I do notice a difference. I did a blow out to give myself a trim. I do my hair myself. Sometimes I want someone to do it when I want to try certain styles but I haven't found someone who I can trust to care about my hair when doing it. I started doing my hair fully when I began the transition back to natural hair in 2013
So even though my sister’s a cosmetologist, I do my own hair majority of the time to avoid overwhelming her schedule. With the help of your video on the DIY trim at home and less heat, it really helped my hair retain its length, grow in a bit thicker and revert back to my tighter curl pattern(even though it can be annoying lol)
I go to the salon. I watched your video on trim yesterday and chickened out 😂. No I don’t have any sheers. I did the clairol semi permanent color under the dryer for 40 minutes like you said and whalla beautiful color! Thank you 😘
Love you for teaching us non-cosmetologist. After getting heat damage from a cosmetologist, I’ve been doing my own hair without heat. I do have a question about using an heat protectant. Is it okay to use heat protectant between applying heat to the hair such as blow drying and flat ironing or, as you did in the video, flat ironing and press curling?
I used to go to the salon(Dominican) once a month in the fall winter/only for a wash and roller set but now I do it myself in the cooler months. I wear my hair in two long braids after I wash and condition because I stay beefing with that heffa named humidity 😂😂. I apply my own henna as well. Client's hair is gorgeous and thank you fir always educating us ❤👍🏽👍🏽. Blessings Ki🙏🏽💐
I have a pixie cut. I do both. I go to my cousin to get my hair done when necessary (and if I have the money). I do it my hair myself half of the time. I have to be honest, I simply can not wear long hair, not even a bob cut. It's a lot of work, but I love to see the beauty of it.
Beautiful work and beautiful client. Please share how long this process should take. I’m a licensed cosmetologist struggling with my time for this service. It’s improved but…😢
Your video saved me back then. I still trim my own hair and I saved your video❤. I never see you put relaxers on your customers hair? Do you? I havent had one in over 20 years. I know a lot of women who still do. I was just wondering your routine when doing this.
I got to the shop maybe twice a year. But I will like to start going every 2-3 months for trims. But I do my own hair and have been for about 18 years now. Whoooaaa it’s been a while. I started at 12 yrs old.
Hi I do my hair at home. Also, how often do you do a protein treatment as oppose to regular conditioner for deep conditioning. I watch your videos a lot, I wait for you to drop new ones and I've even ordered your products. I would love to get in your chair. It's on my bucket list. You're amazing!!
I've never gone to a salon all my life, well because I'm Transgender, however I started growing my hair out around my junior year of high school and I started doing my hair in protective styles around 2020 in January. During the pandemic I did a big chop and started growing my hair back I recently got heat damage however my hair is extremely healthy ( or as healthy as it has been in the past). I mainly do sewin weaves and maybe a quick weave. Salons on the other hand have never been a thing for me and my family
I have wavy/soft curly hair, and I mostly manage to style my hair at home (I do need to invest in a heat protection spray..!). I do go to the salon to get my ends trimmed!
I go to the salon. It's how I treat myself, You mentioned using a setting spray with flexi rods to help hold curls. What setting spray or hair spray do you recommend for natural hair. Most contain water and I'm afraid my hair may revert. Thanks my friend...stay blessed....
I gave up the hair stylists in Northern VA where I live. A series of bad "haircuts, relaxers and color," made me become an expert on my own hair. I transitioned my hair myself, now a straight natural. I'm 52 and my hair is thick, lush and never been healthier. BTW, love love love ur videos.
I've done my hair more at home than a salon.. Hard finding a genuine shop. I trim my own hair/ silk press. Definitely save🎉🎉. Last beautician I went to I went to her three times in a row and each time was a different price. What's the first time in the last time should have been the same price all I got was silk press and a trim. But every visit it got higher. Con artist
Her hair is so shiny and pretty! I have been doing my hair at home since about 2018 because my stylist of almost 2 decades went back to her home area-Cali and there aren't many black stylist where I am. I don't believe my hair is really healthy but I do my best to take care of it and its decent. My main concern are my ends that just don't look healthy.
My grandmother was a hairstylest; so she taught me how to do hair care at home. I had a lot of hair products as a teenager; then I had two girls. My husband really supported me and the girls to do a lot at home, but we would go to the salon three or four times a year.
🥰i always love to see the ✂ cutting 😒I gave up on my flat irons. I have used 3 different irons. I have them so low that they barely bend my hair, bc 1 degree higher & my hair smells burned no matter what type of heat protection
I do my hair at home ever since I started wearing my hair natural back in 2014. I will get a professional trim once a year. I haven't had to get it trimmed in a while because, I had cancer treatments and I cut it all off. It's growing back now and I wish I could fine a really good hair stylist where I live that would respect my curls but, most of them don't. That's why I do my hair at home. I haven't worn my hair straight in 3 years.😅
Hi! I've never tried hot rollers before believe it or not. And keeping your hair moisturized, your ends trimmed and silk or satin on your head every night. ❤
Stay on top of your Ferritin ( iron) and Vitamin D levels as well because they will also effect length retention and growth. Your levels need to be optimal, not just in normal range.
I had regular visits in the 2000’s. My last salon visit was in 2008. Every time I found a good beautician, they would end up moving to another city (ATL, Houston) or just stopped doing hair altogether. I have been styling my own hair since I was 10 years old.
Hey! I gained significant hair length during the pandemic. I was FORCED to care for it 💯! And no I didn't want to! Because it was a struggle. To really hurt my feelings all of my new growth came in GRAY! I still have a small amount of color on the ends. It's been a task to find a consistent professional stylist. Either they over book, or they expect the client to just sit and wait, you know be soooo grateful, I mean now I pay 2 ½ times more for the same service. And wait twice as long. And still to answer your question, I go to the salon! It was every two weeks for the last 3 years, until recently now I just go once a month. It's rare if I wash it myself in between appointments. It's really hard for me. The whippings my mother gave me for doing anything to my hair has scared me. Plus having RA now (Rumathoid Arthritis) makes it painful for my wrist and hands. I can do wonders with a large Bobbie pin though. So yes it's the salon at least once a month, and I have never trimmed my ends. I truly love your baby, Deeper Than Hair!
just wanted to say your resurrection masque saved my hair SO much! i was so hurt when it was out of stock lol, but it's my favorite product ever. question since you brought this up: what's the best way to deal/reduce fairy knots? i never had a big problem with them, but lately i've been noticing them more and don't know why. thank you for everything!
I love your videos since they’re long and don’t have commercials in them! Also your talent is undeniable!
Glad you like them!
The last time I went to a salon for a cut or color or anything was in 2002. I have been cutting, treating, coloring, and styling my own hair since then. I used to be a hairstylist and I found that its easier to give myself what I want better than anyone else can 🙂

I've learned a lot from you and will keep tuning in to see how else to be self-sufficient. Thanks for teaching us.❤
Thank you for all those tips. I look forward to more.
I am a salon girl now but in my teens I did it myself. Now it’s about being pampered and freeing up my time.
Her hair is so pretty and healthy you did that Ms Kee🧡🧡💇🏾♀️🪮✨
I agree with your point about limiting heat. I blow dried my hair recently after not using heat since March. And I do notice a difference. I did a blow out to give myself a trim. I do my hair myself. Sometimes I want someone to do it when I want to try certain styles but I haven't found someone who I can trust to care about my hair when doing it. I started doing my hair fully when I began the transition back to natural hair in 2013
I love all your tools! A real professional.
Can we get a at home heat training 101 ? I really only go to the salon when a trim is needed . Love your professional info and content 🫶🏽🫶🏽
I’m still heat shy after a visit to a stylist I had been going to for quite awhile. That’s been about 10 years now 😞.
Do you stand on a pressure mat while working? What do you wear on your feet? Do they hurt by the end of the day?
Hello her hair looks beautiful, excellent job and tips.I do my hair at home, since the pandemic I learned how to do it.💜🌸
Thanks for sharing!!
I go to the salon. I watched your video on trim yesterday and chickened out 😂. No I don’t have any sheers. I did the clairol semi permanent color under the dryer for 40 minutes like you said and whalla beautiful color! Thank you 😘
That is awesome!
I do maintenance at home that includes deep conditioning once a week, bonding products, and Revair. I go to my stylist for trims or cuts.
I go to the salon for trims 3 to 4 times a year. It was about the same frequency before the pandemic for me, when my hair was relaxed.
For the most part I do my own hair except for sew ins cause I dont know how to braid. U taught me how to clips my ends at home as well
Look at that bounce! My hair springs up like that when curled, too, and it looks adorable on your client!
Yes! Thank you!
Beautiful work and beautiful client. Please share how long this process should take. I’m a licensed cosmetologist struggling with my time for this service. It’s improved but…😢
Her hair is beautiful you did an amazing job ❤❤❤
I do both. I go to the salon for a cut or trim about every two months, then I maintain my hair at home.
I Love doing my hair at home ❤❤❤ I haven't been to the salon in years
Thanks for the flexi rod tip!❤
Her hair was gorgeous 😫😍😍
I've never gone to a salon all my life, well because I'm Transgender, however I started growing my hair out around my junior year of high school and I started doing my hair in protective styles around 2020 in January. During the pandemic I did a big chop and started growing my hair back I recently got heat damage however my hair is extremely healthy ( or as healthy as it has been in the past). I mainly do sewin weaves and maybe a quick weave. Salons on the other hand have never been a thing for me and my family
I do both. My hair is dyed so I go to my stylist every two months for touch ups. But I do every other wash day at home.
I have wavy/soft curly hair, and I mostly manage to style my hair at home (I do need to invest in a heat protection spray..!). I do go to the salon to get my ends trimmed!
Her hair came out beautiful ❤
I do my hair at home! And the “trim your ends from home” video has been saving my hair since last July 2023, I use it every time I have to dust 🫶🏾
I haven't worn my hair straight in 3 years.😅
Two questions
How do you feel about hot rollers?
What are some ways for continued hair growth and length retention when you are in your 40’s and 50’s?
I still watch your trimming video to trim my hair! I've never looked back! lol
I love you, Kee! ❤
Much love back!! ❤️
I had regular visits in the 2000’s. My last salon visit was in 2008. Every time I found a good beautician, they would end up moving to another city (ATL, Houston) or just stopped doing hair altogether. I have been styling my own hair since I was 10 years old.
I do my own two strand twists but I go to the salon for a press
