The best thing I realised about watching Violet Evergarden is it showed that letters don't always have to be too formal or too direct, it can also be written in a simple yet meaningful way in order to convey one's inner emotion. The background music on the sequence where Luculia Marlborough tells Violet about her family and brother (named Rust) is also one of my favourite background musics. Also I must mention, the OVA episode of Violet Evergarden has a small reference from this particular episode as well.
We're only on episode 3 and the tears are already out. Violet Evergarden is just warming up. It only gets more and more emotional. I hope you've stocked up on tissues.
I honestly had wet eyes on every other episode. This one is simple, we all know this feeling that we want to tell our family members but never get courage to actually say it

I just started watching this anime (currently at episode 7) and this episode is my favorite and the most emotional I've gotten. The simplicity and purity of the message and how it healed Luculia and her brother's relationship, I love it.
Overhyping episodes is the best way of dulling someone reaction to it. It does never affects the reaction in a positive way. Not that the person won't have the emotional response fit to it, but there is always a difference if they would actually react blindly without expectations, instead of bracing for impact. I've seen reactors saying on episodes of other shows, that they were expecting more since those episodes were hyped from day one.
I'm glad Alana reacted to Your Lie in April before doing Violet Evergarden. Now she's prepared the tissues that left from the first one. At the same time, I'm sad that she reacts to both. It means her heart will get even more broken T°T

Most people will say a later episode is the most tragic but this one is equally tragic for me. That brother was drinking because he was angry with himself he had come back from the war alive, and not his parents. Someone saying that they were glad he is alive were the words he needed to hear the most. Great job Violet.
This anime perfectly portrays how difficult it is to understand somebody’s feelings. This is no different when it comes to citizens and soldiers. As a citizen, I’ll never be able to fully grasp what it’s like to be in a uniform with the task to defend your nation and uphold your duty. Especially all the men that faced something terrible and had to come back, living with that torment. My grandpa tells us stories from his past sometimes and it baffles me, but I can’t actually see it the same way as they do. All we can do is try and understand those feelings and reciprocate it appropriately like Violet did for Luculia. It’s great that this episode got you emotional. Most people just mention events in further episodes because they’ve more impactful. However, there’s nothing worse than knowing you were supposed to protect somebody and they still passed away.

I get that you watched this a while back, but, our seeing your reactions has to remain the current reality. With that said, I am terrified for you. As this anime goes on...one gets fully and relentlessly destroyed. I do not believe I have watched any other show, anime or otherwise, that emotionally pinned down my heart and furiously beat it with a flaming crowbar. I am scared, for myself, to watch certain episodes' reactions, but, I intensely enjoy sharing, joy and sorrow.
I think she's gonna cry a lot in ep 7 and 10. Ep 10 managed to make me sobber for the first time watching a show. It was like stucking a huge load inside my throad and wanted to cry so bad and even ashamed of it as a grown adult guy. 😂😂

Yeah.. other shows can easily make you cry from tragic scenes. This show does not do that. The show pours your cup with lots of emotion and when it is full, just then you will realize you're already crying.
