I feel this, it's like hell i envy who can read those manga werekly because how berserk and HxH was amazing 😞 When they continue? Hxh stopped around two years and i wished if there at least one chapter in year 😢 And berserk? I just finished read it yesterday and has a feeling about give those managaks some good beating (just a joke) if one of them is sick why not have some helpers to help them in draw? Specially togashu everytime some says he has mental proplems and some say he had back proplems. I have feeling i will marry and have few children and those two manags still didn't do any real progress in story just about 20 chapter or more at best with this amazing puplishing speed 😐

He probably just struggles to out do himself. He wants to keep giving 110% but the more you progress that, the harder it gets. I can actually relate to that with a project I am doing myself. When you work on something so detailed, nobody has higher expectations than yourself
I thought about this too. Especially when we got those random Griffith chapters where nothing happened and nothing related to the rest of the story right after Casca came back. It's like he wants to handle her coming back so carefully that he's kind of paralyzed with where to go.

Love, you don't write the Lost Children arc, or a story like Berserk if you're fucking healthy. The man has strong connections to his childhood, and I just want to say you all won't understand just how painful it is with every year that passes on who he is. I feel it. @@busybee6889 I'd say the way show looks is very important for a visual medium. Style aside, the 2016 anime is a bad adaptation, way too much cut or rushed. They crammed a whole arc and then some in like 12 episodes. Just because someone is adapting something you like doesn't make it great automatically. Don't be a fan boy.
It feels like Miura's enormously high standard for Berserk is pretty much a roadblock for a schedule. Continuing with the way he does it on his own is too taxing and not productive enough, but using other manga to train assistance also delays any further chapters and divides his attention on multiple projects.

I think the most obvious answer is the hardest one for us to accept. He started berserk when he was very young relatively speaking. It reflected what he was passionate about and found engaging decades ago. I don’t think he finds out those things compelling anymore. We sort of have to accept that however good the quality of his work on Berserk is (and it’s still good) I don’t think he enjoys making it anymore. I don’t think anyone could enjoy making it anymore. He started a manga about an edgy OC from when he was just out of high school. He’s now a middle-aged man.
I feel like if Miura woula lost passion he would've stopped writing ages ago. Personally from my experience being robbed of passion makes me not wanna do things at all regardless of the encouragement and support it get. I gotta find my own motive so surely there's there's something that's driving him to make more.
@@daermani I think he's passionate, but I think the various other manga he wrote and drew recently reflect his interests way more. He seems like he's getting more optimistic and more interested in younger protagonists.
I think Miura is coming to terms with the idea that he physically cant finish berserk. I know theres a huge stigma of taking over someone elses work in japan, but it may be Miura's endgame right now
I'm honestly surprised that in a culture with tons of history of carrying on family names and legacy that its a big stigma to carry on someone's work of fiction.
the truth is, stories are often easier to begin than they are to finish. The likelihood that a creator will lose interest before the end of a long story is always high. George RR Martin concocted some fiction about a Meereenese knot to account for a 6 year stint where he failed to publish a book that was supposedly half done when he published the previous one. After that, his next book has been coming for the last 9 years and counting. Creators will rarely ever admit publicly that they're no longer all that interested in their most popular work.
I doubt that is the case sotherwise Duranki wouldn't suck as much as it does. Unless MIura has completely lost his interest for manga which also seems unlikely.
So true man. I am really hoping to see those end somehow. (One Piece will definetely end, thanks god). But for HxH and Berserk i am not so sure i will see the end if it goes on with that schedule.
Bernhard Enengel HxH is definitely get back on track at some time, hopefuly at the end of this year. As for berserk it depends purely on Duraki, but I mean One Piece was lucky that its creator never moved to create another manga series unlike HxH,Berserk and Vagabond creators
While One Piece has less of need to make the effort It is still massively impressive how Oda has kept it continuing with little to no HIATUS with almost always one upping his story and world building even though the artstyle isn't realistic but it's enough to be grounded but also enough to be chaotic and inline with the world of OP. It shows just how much talent, dedication and Almost to a degree An unhealthy Obsession to their manga these Mangakas have. They are all literally amazing and dedicated to their work. Like a certain Ronin from the manga, Vagabond.
I feel sorry for his assistants who might've thought they finally got to work alongside the legendary miura, but he legit just let's them work on the ground, background characters, etc.
A story that highly influenced Miura let alone berserk, Guin saga artist died before finishing the work. I believe Mirua even spoke on that before. Honestly I think the reason he started another manga was to get to the point of being completely hands off with it except for writing that way worse case scenario they'll be people available to pick up the mantle and his top secret notes for berserk and finish it with or without him.

Why? The dude is in his early 50’s. Not sure why everyone seems to think he’s not going to finish a series he’s been working on for 30+ years. Even if it takes awhile it’ll be finished, he’s got plenty of years left in him barring any tragic accidents or health emergencies. Talk about pessimistic.
I caught up to berserk right when the massive hiatus started in 2013 and I legit didnt think berserk would ever get another update again. Tbh I'm just so grateful that we even get new chapters at all.
He needs to trust the people under him more. This could even lead to opportunities for those working under him to be able to stretch their wings, and even provide their own ideas for Berserk, which could be good in the long term. Marvel has an interesting history regarding introducing artists to the material and while styles have changed it has been for the better, see 1990s X-Men.
I heard he has, and that it might help serializations proceed faster now. So far its looking good, as we got a chapter a few months ago and we were supposed to get one last month but the magazine delayed due to covid, and now its coming this month.
Just because it wouldnt be the 1st time the artwork would decline doesnt mean that he would ever want there to be a 2nd time. He may have an irrational phobia preventing him from finishing berserk. Maybe if he finished Berserk hed enter a deep depression and has entered it in advance at the knowledge of this. Maybe a relationship he had that fueled his completion was lost or is challenged. Unfortunately I dont think he or Togashi will finish their series unless there is some sort of intervention with therapy in their lives. Theyre clearly in need of some sortve repair. Its not healthy or typical to start and commit to a series professionally only to leave it unfinished. I mean i expect an amateur to start n stop writing all the time, but 2 legends? I wonder what they think they are missing that they think they cant finish now or wonder if they fear finishing due to becoming irrelevant afterwards or no long having something to look forward to
Totally agree there, for me I will be very sad if their work didn't finish by themselves since their health issue is happening especially for togashi but they still didn't want to finish it at all.....it will be another issue if their work is finished by other mangaka where the ending/story might become weird and bring un-satisfaction to reader
Well said. I think I believe in the fall of miuras mental state after he finishes berserk. I believe berserk is the most important thing to him than anything esle in the world and I can see how it's end will make him empty. And I don't think anyone including miura thinks berserk is outdated. Berserk is and will remain a classic for eternity
Makes sense. I see it sort of like the way I used to approach JRPGs. I would spend hundreds of hours breaking the systems whenever possible, becoming super-efficient, overpowered, and when the final dungeon is the only thing left... I would just grind more if possible until dropping the game altogether. I never wanted it to end.
Interesting how Miura literally acts like Guts did (and still somewhat does), accepting no help and wanting to do everything by himself because he doesn't seem to trust others. Especially when you consider the health issues he had/has (massive stress being one of them), that he seems be rather solitary aswell and that he also puts all his effort and beyond into everything he does. Just like him. It's almost like his work, the thought and care he puts into it and the main themes of Berserk are a reflection of himself and what's important to him - which wouldn't be weird though. We all do things that reflect us from within because we are driven on by them. Basic psychology. I can't blame him for not trusting others if that's the case and I am not hating on him. If I put all my heart & soul into something I love I would probably also be hesitant to trust others with it. Like sure, many people make fun about him playing Idolmaster and what not and that he lost interest in Berserk, but he literally worked on this series for 30+ years. He literally redrew many, if not all pages multiple times until they are good enough according to some interviews. And he is clearly still passionate about Berserk and still puts in so much effort into it. It seems to remind us that even someone like Miura is just a normal human being like everyone else. That includes his own flaws and weaknesses aswell.
I think Miura is likely suffering from writer's block / burnout. The "art quality" thing doesn't really add up. I think it's just getting harder and harder to advance the story - it's easy to open up a world, but to close it well is almost impossible. Look at game of thrones for example. Or any other countless number of series with bad endings. Ending a story is insanely hard
Funny how one of the themes from Berserk is about learning to trust and accept help from others and Miura can't bring himself to trust his assistants lmao
Personally, since I just joined the Berserk fandom right around the time Casca was finally saved, the waiting doesn't hurt as much. I just want to see what Skull Knight has to say since every time he shows up we're given clues to where the story is headed. So far we know that Griffith is going to expand his Empire and that Guts' journey is near an end; Hopefully Skull Knight provides more clues in the next chapter.
I've made a joke 14 years ago (when I was 18 ) saying, I believe my future son\daughter will be able to read when they are around 18. My toddler have 3 years old now, If things are in this rhythm I might be right.
I believe the themes for both Berserk and Duranki are so difficult to unravel it's next to impossible to write a story that can deliver. Part of the problem is that manga is a different art form in that you develop the story over a long span of years - For example in the witcher series you've got a new approach of the beauty and the beast story, in berserk you have (at least for my money) the abstract of the unknown. I think the bare bones of the story are there already you've got all the tragedy up to golden age, and by griffith raping casca you've got his defeat the only times he acted emotionally he raped casca and had sex with charlotte. The rest set up moon child. And now we've got that weird part of the red hearing, casca's mind is not the story and maybe not even guts but how do you write that well? Duranki, look see the second page of the first chapter. You've got how a divine child is born, the father is the symbolic depths, the mother the sky, and mercurius/hermes is spirit. As i see it the story is just trying to play with these mythological and symbolic forms, it's just chuck-full of them. I think finishing berserk is difficult for how difficult the theme is... that being said yeah. I've dropped for a few years, I'll come back with no expectations. So far, for what i see it's probably the best manga for those reasons the symbolic patterns are on point. Who knows, I'm of the idea that if Miura dies ti may be the first time we get a Wheel of Time, or Dune situation, where the story is finished by someone else, I've made my peace with it.

Oh, my, this is depressing!! But still, really interesting! It's very likely that Miura has writer's block instead of artist's block, and maybe this new series is a little rest from Berserk so he can gain motivation once again as much as it is also a way of using that blank time without energy and motivation to make his assistants improve their skills. Berserk will end, we gotta trust the master! That might be too optimistic, but hey, hope it is that way! ^^ Also, it's a shame Duranki is not looking too good so far. Although I haven't read it yet, I will eventually!
It seems some people totally missed the possibility of Miura sensei having WRITER'S BLOCK with BERSERK, so he escaped to Duranki instead. This happened all the times in the books industry. Literally just recently ASOIAF's author GRRRM already proclaimed he will not finished the last book Winds of Winter according to his promised, this year. Meanwhile all this years to basically almost a decade right now, he has been doing so many "side works" including the latest game project with Fromsoft Elden Ring. SO NO, I HIGHLY DOUBT Duranki being a one shot series, I think this is a highly long running series in the making based of its premise alone. This is especially prominent with how Duranki have strong mythos & historical setting, something that Miura sensei really love. As for Berserk, there will be the time for the series to massively continue if Miura sensei himself finally really focus with his magnum opus.
I havent gotten this far in the video yet, only at 2:25, but I think it's both extremely ironic and extremely funny that miura is basically going through guts' entire "i've got to let people in to keep my loved one safe" mindset only with him, it's berserk instead of casca.
Would be good for them to restart an anime from the beginning, volume one that is. This will give fans alot to go through and get more true interest in Berserk.

I started reading Berserk at the end of 2010. It was fantastic. It was glorious. It was epic. I put it on hold to wait for more chapters to build up before returning to it. I've been hungering to return and reread Berserk for the past 3 years but I've always been put off by the low chapter count. I've told myself - 'just wait until the Berserk chapter release becomes more frequent'. It's been almost ten years since first reading Berserk. Hearing that the hiatus's are only getting longer makes me sad all over. Hunter x Hunter and this. It's hard, waiting...
This newer manga is definitely beautiful, but I can't help but think the depressing, mature and dark tone Berserk has ended up being too much for him all these years. The fact he started adding more cute little girls makes me think he tried adding them in to get himself to enjoy working on the series more, which doesn't look to have helped. I hope he does what makes him happy, but I also hope he gives us closure. Whether that closure being him telling us he doesn't want to work on it anymore or he promises it'll be finished one way or another, I'm sure it would put people at ease. I understand the pressure is immense on him and as much as I adore his artwork, I love the characters in the series most of all. I'd be happy even just having a novel of what's left of the story with a few pieces of his art made.
You guys are probably overlooking something not readily known. When creating a story you have to be able to complicate things and think many angles he is probably going over these things in his head, not sure if he has any notes. However I can give examples for myself I took 7 weeks to progress in a story I have been writing since October. The reason being is that rushing and going too fast means you can make some vital mistakes. While easy once you know or learned how to code a story it still takes quite a bit of work to make sure that everything is hashed out properly. Berserk is pretty much the bible of those who live a life of struggle or at least resonate with it, allow him to finish and I'd still be content and satisfied with the legendary work even if he never complete's berserk.
Shift to digital artwork was pretty good imo, the detail in background art improved as well since you don’t lose quality on smaller parts and that you can copy and paste stuff so he can still make really detailed pages yet shorten the time he works on them.
Is the training of assistants the only concern for Miura? I think he wrote himself into the corner a bit. As many years as I've thought about it, I can't imagine an end for Berserk with the gargantuan power gap between Guts and Femto. But this is the assumption that Femto has to be defeated for the series to end. Only thing I do know for sure, the longer it takes to end, the likelihood of getting an ending decreases.
As a writer, it took me a year and a half to complete 14K words of material for the intro of a story I was writing. I am highly obsessive with details, phrasing, pacing, and doing everything in my power to ensure that whatever I'm writing is not only well-described, but well-realized, and this can be extraordinarily taxing. There are so many times where I wanted to give up, throw in the towel, and I only kept going because I felt like I had an obligation, an internal command to finish my work, and finish it properly, and truly, no matter how long it took, no matter who I upset, if I fucked up, I'd regret it forever.
The only way I can stay sane as a Berserk fan is to forget that it exists until a new chapter releases. I'm just going to buy the hardcover editions, and hope that by the time those catch up, some sort of progress has been made in the new chapters.
This situation seems the complete opposite of VAGABOND! Inoue starts new passion project, continues, hiatus, continues, hiatus, hiatus, hiatus. Suffers a mental breakdown and focuses on new manga to "get away" from the previous one. Last I heard, he said he probably won't finish it ever. Miura starts his masterpiece running for 25 years and suffering many hiatuses, the situation worsens, he starts new manga to "train" his helpers and then continue with Berserk. Also I'll add a plus, cause I never imagined Miura-sensei would share a room with other human beings. On a side note, I'd sacrifice my hentai collection to be his pupil.
Guys, Miura can't finish Berserk because the story of abuse that he's telling HAS no ending. Trauma, PTSD, has no credit scrawl until the day you die, and the ending will almost always be a sad and anticlimactic one. You don't fall in love, go to war, come back and lose your spouse, go homeless, and die in an alley, and think anyone on the planet will have a care in the world you ever existed. That's the truth.
1.) Guts and Casca let's go of the hatred for Griffith's betrayal. 2.) And they both try to live a normal life together, but it doesn't work out between the two. 3.) And Griffith gives up and ends his dream, and commits suicide for his past actions, because Guts will never love him sexually or romantically. 4.) Guts and Casca both decide to go their seperate ways. 5.) Guts and Farness falls in love together, and have many children together live a normal life. 6.) Serpico, is Farness's brother. So he and the other members go their own way as well. 7.) Guts gives up his mercenary swordsman life. 8.) The god hand and all the demons are stuck forever never able to harm people, because Griffith died.
As a Berserk fan for 18+ years, I don't like Duranki at all. The sexualisation is more than questionable. Had the same problem with Gigantomakhia and "lately" (like last 10 years...) with Berserk itself. Duranki shows anything, except the art, I dislike about Berserk since volume 22-25. I'll continue to read Berserk, but I also don't give a fuck if it doesn't come out and I'm tired of waiting and hoping for a new chapter. I'm not optimistic and I don't think this series will be finished in a way it deserves, if at all. Miura still cares about it. This is a clear sign, there is still some hope, but there is also this feeling, that he doesn't want to do it anymore and doesn't enjoy it at all. After 30+ years this is understandable, but he should just perma hiatus for 5 to 10 years or cancel it for good. Giving someone false hope is worse than just saying the sad truth. Berserk is on a level he can't handle anymore.
@moon child Berserk is an amazing manga and I like its dark and complex story a lot. I can even say this is definitely one of the best written and drawn manga I've seen in my 33 years. But Berserk changed and so do I. I'm objective enough to see that it changed in a way I dislike, but this doesn't change my opinion about what my experience was till a certain point and my general view of it. Those changes are just one half of my issues with Berserk. The other half are the uncertain releases. My feeling is as I said, he doesn't want to do it anymore and doesn't care about it as much, as in the past. Modern Berserk is a certain continuation of cliffhangers, with uncertain resolvement. Take this example. There is this one show you like, but they start to release one episode and after that there is no info on the next one for months and maybe years. After some time a episode drops, again with an massive cliffhanger, and its gone, again. How many years will it take to kill off your fanbase doing so?

I'm intentionally reading Berserk very slowly, to allow for more of it to get completed. :| Instead of bingeing it, I read it in between other things every once in awhile.
I really believe that Miura and it's delays on berserk are him finding a perfect way to continue the lore and make a new arc as glorious as was the golden arc. I'm convinced that he's very thoughtful of that
I wonder how the assistants feel about their circumstance and why the publishers agreed to this flawed exercise. Would be great to get a 3hr interview with Miura and a single interviewer just probing deep into all his methodology and history. (Never gonna happen)
As a detailed obsessed artist I can understand his reasoning completely. There is a spark of ambition inside all of us. This spark can become a raging flame given the right circumstances. It's a personal feeling I empathize. Comparing him to my own work I can say that he will explode with more berserk someday. He's just not mentally prepared yet. Cause he knows it's going to be a major pain in the ass to draw. deep down there is a raging fire somewhere. Makes sense he's timid. Especially after that choppy cg anime from 2016 got alot of hate. Probably set him back too. Clearly his level of detail gives him great anxiety. Plus he's already successful so I mean that can be ambition killer right there. Mark my words there will be a time when it bounces back
This all seems as simple as Berserk being his magnum opus, resulting in extreme amount of protection/perfectionism. Berserk is at this point, his life's work. While he says he wants to get his assistants to a level where they can help more and more with Berserk, I guarantee that bar gets higher and higher with time. Berserk is his child, and he needs it to be absolutely perfect.
This video comes off as kind of entitled. Miura doesn't owe us anything, nor should he feel pressured to change the process he uses to create Berserk, as it's his work and he should let his assistants assist him as much as he sees fit. Duranki is also a way for his assistants to draw more art which gets published, due to their minimal involvement in Berserk and it's hiatus'.
True, it might come across as me being entitled, but it’s more to do with irritation, which I apologise for. At the end of the day we’re getting more Duranki and less Berserk, he doesn’t owe me a thing, but it’s still a shame, so I made that disappointment clear for this video.
Everytime I see a new chapter of berserk on mangareader I do a Mozgus ritual holding the latest manga volume in my hand. It's really painful but not nearly as much as the wait for the new chapter.
I'm okay with Duranki being his focus if it really does give him confidence in his assistants' artwork. It's a really good Manga so far. And judging by how good the art is, it won't be long before berserk gets the attention it needs. Plus we've gotten a couple berserk chapters since this video. Hoping 2021 delivers.

I thought about this too. Especially when we got those random Griffith chapters where nothing happened and nothing related to the rest of the story right after Casca came back. It's like he wants to handle her coming back so carefully that he's kind of paralyzed with where to go.

@@busybee6889 I'd say the way show looks is very important for a visual medium. Style aside, the 2016 anime is a bad adaptation, way too much cut or rushed. They crammed a whole arc and then some in like 12 episodes.

It feels like Miura's enormously high standard for Berserk is pretty much a roadblock for a schedule. Continuing with the way he does it on his own is too taxing and not productive enough, but using other manga to train assistance also delays any further chapters and divides his attention on multiple projects.

I think the most obvious answer is the hardest one for us to accept. He started berserk when he was very young relatively speaking. It reflected what he was passionate about and found engaging decades ago. I don’t think he finds out those things compelling anymore. We sort of have to accept that however good the quality of his work on Berserk is (and it’s still good) I don’t think he enjoys making it anymore. I don’t think anyone could enjoy making it anymore. He started a manga about an edgy OC from when he was just out of high school. He’s now a middle-aged man.
I feel like if Miura woula lost passion he would've stopped writing ages ago. Personally from my experience being robbed of passion makes me not wanna do things at all regardless of the encouragement and support it get. I gotta find my own motive so surely there's there's something that's driving him to make more.

George RR Martin concocted some fiction about a Meereenese knot to account for a 6 year stint where he failed to publish a book that was supposedly half done when he published the previous one. After that, his next book has been coming for the last 9 years and counting. Creators will rarely ever admit publicly that they're no longer all that interested in their most popular work.
I doubt that is the case sotherwise Duranki wouldn't suck as much as it does. Unless MIura has completely lost his interest for manga which also seems unlikely.

While One Piece has less of need to make the effort It is still massively impressive how Oda has kept it continuing with little to no HIATUS with almost always one upping his story and world building even though the artstyle isn't realistic but it's enough to be grounded but also enough to be chaotic and inline with the world of OP. It shows just how much talent, dedication and Almost to a degree An unhealthy Obsession to their manga these Mangakas have. They are all literally amazing and dedicated to their work. Like a certain Ronin from the manga, Vagabond.
I feel sorry for his assistants who might've thought they finally got to work alongside the legendary miura, but he legit just let's them work on the ground, background characters, etc.
A story that highly influenced Miura let alone berserk, Guin saga artist died before finishing the work. I believe Mirua even spoke on that before. Honestly I think the reason he started another manga was to get to the point of being completely hands off with it except for writing that way worse case scenario they'll be people available to pick up the mantle and his top secret notes for berserk and finish it with or without him.

A new Idolm@ster game comes out this year, so we're probably not getting a lot of chapters anytime soon....
He needs to trust the people under him more. This could even lead to opportunities for those working under him to be able to stretch their wings, and even provide their own ideas for Berserk, which could be good in the long term.

Just because it wouldnt be the 1st time the artwork would decline doesnt mean that he would ever want there to be a 2nd time. He may have an irrational phobia preventing him from finishing berserk. Maybe if he finished Berserk hed enter a deep depression and has entered it in advance at the knowledge of this. Maybe a relationship he had that fueled his completion was lost or is challenged. Unfortunately I dont think he or Togashi will finish their series unless there is some sort of intervention with therapy in their lives. Theyre clearly in need of some sortve repair. Its not healthy or typical to start and commit to a series professionally only to leave it unfinished. I mean i expect an amateur to start n stop writing all the time, but 2 legends? I would spend hundreds of hours breaking the systems whenever possible, becoming super-efficient, overpowered, and when the final dungeon is the only thing left... I would just grind more if possible until dropping the game altogether. I never wanted it to end.

Interesting how Miura literally acts like Guts did (and still somewhat does), accepting no help and wanting to do everything by himself because he doesn't seem to trust others.
Especially when you consider the health issues he had/has (massive stress being one of them), that he seems be rather solitary aswell and that he also puts all his effort and beyond into everything he does. Just like him.
It's almost like his work, the thought and care he puts into it and the main themes of Berserk are a reflection of himself and what's important to him - which wouldn't be weird though.
We all do things that reflect us from within because we are driven on by them. Basic psychology.

If I put all my heart & soul into something I love I would probably also be hesitant to trust others with it. Like sure, many people make fun about him playing Idolmaster and what not and that he lost interest in Berserk, but he literally worked on this series for 30+ years. He literally redrew many, if not all pages multiple times until they are good enough according to some interviews.
And he is clearly still passionate about Berserk and still puts in so much effort into it.
It seems to remind us that even someone like Miura is just a normal human being like everyone else. That includes his own flaws and weaknesses aswell.

I think Miura is likely suffering from writer's block / burnout. The "art quality" thing doesn't really add up. I think it's just getting harder and harder to advance the story - it's easy to open up a world, but to close it well is almost impossible. Look at game of thrones for example. Or any other countless number of series with bad endings. Ending a story is insanely hard

As someone who started reading Berserk in 2015, getting 10 chapters in 5 years sounds amazing to me
Personally, since I just joined the Berserk fandom right around the time Casca was finally saved, the waiting doesn't hurt as much.
I just want to see what Skull Knight has to say since every time he shows up we're given clues to where the story is headed.
So far we know that Griffith is going to expand his Empire and that Guts' journey is near an end; Hopefully Skull Knight provides more clues in the next chapter.

I've made a joke 14 years ago (when I was 18 ) saying, I believe my future son\daughter will be able to read when they are around 18. My toddler have 3 years old now, If things are in this rhythm I might be right.
I believe the themes for both Berserk and Duranki are so difficult to unravel it's next to impossible to write a story that can deliver. Part of the problem is that manga is a different art form in that you develop the story over a long span of years - For example in the witcher series you've got a new approach of the beauty and the beast story, in berserk you have (at least for my money) the abstract of the unknown. I think the bare bones of the story are there already you've got all the tragedy up to golden age, and by griffith raping casca you've got his defeat the only times he acted emotionally he raped casca and had sex with charlotte. The rest set up moon child. And now we've got that weird part of the red hearing, casca's mind is not the story and maybe not even guts but how do you write that well?
Duranki, look see the second page of the first chapter. You've got how a divine child is born, the father is the symbolic depths, the mother the sky, and mercurius/hermes is spirit. As i see it the story is just trying to play with these mythological and symbolic forms, it's just chuck-full of them. I think finishing berserk is difficult for how difficult the theme is... that being said yeah. I've dropped for a few years, I'll come back with no expectations. So far, for what i see it's probably the best manga for those reasons the symbolic patterns are on point. Who knows, I'm of the idea that if Miura dies ti may be the first time we get a Wheel of Time, or Dune situation, where the story is finished by someone else, I've made my peace with it.

It's very likely that Miura has writer's block instead of artist's block, and maybe this new series is a little rest from Berserk so he can gain motivation once again as much as it is also a way of using that blank time without energy and motivation to make his assistants improve their skills. It seems some people totally missed the possibility of Miura sensei having WRITER'S BLOCK with BERSERK, so he escaped to Duranki instead. This happened all the times in the books industry. Literally just recently ASOIAF's author GRRRM already proclaimed he will not finished the last book Winds of Winter according to his promised, this year. Meanwhile all this years to basically almost a decade right now, he has been doing so many "side works" including the latest game project with Fromsoft Elden Ring.
SO NO, I HIGHLY DOUBT Duranki being a one shot series, I think this is a highly long running series in the making based of its premise alone. This is especially prominent with how Duranki have strong mythos & historical setting, something that Miura sensei really love. As for Berserk, there will be the time for the series to massively continue if Miura sensei himself finally really focus with his magnum opus.

I started reading Berserk at the end of 2010. It was fantastic. It was glorious. It was epic. I put it on hold to wait for more chapters to build up before returning to it. I've been hungering to return and reread Berserk for the past 3 years but I've always been put off by the low chapter count. I've told myself - 'just wait until the Berserk chapter release becomes more frequent'. It's been almost ten years since first reading Berserk. Hearing that the hiatus's are only getting longer makes me sad all over. Hunter x Hunter and this. It's hard, waiting...
This newer manga is definitely beautiful, but I can't help but think the depressing, mature and dark tone Berserk has ended up being too much for him all these years. The fact he started adding more cute little girls makes me think he tried adding them in to get himself to enjoy working on the series more, which doesn't look to have helped.
I hope he does what makes him happy, but I also hope he gives us closure. Whether that closure being him telling us he doesn't want to work on it anymore or he promises it'll be finished one way or another, I'm sure it would put people at ease. I understand the pressure is immense on him and as much as I adore his artwork, I love the characters in the series most of all. I'd be happy even just having a novel of what's left of the story with a few pieces of his art made.

You guys are probably overlooking something not readily known. When creating a story you have to be able to complicate things and think many angles he is probably going over these things in his head, not sure if he has any notes. However I can give examples for myself I took 7 weeks to progress in a story I have been writing since October. The reason being is that rushing and going too fast means you can make some vital mistakes. While easy once you know or learned how to code a story it still takes quite a bit of work to make sure that everything is hashed out properly.
Berserk is pretty much the bible of those who live a life of struggle or at least resonate with it, allow him to finish and I'd still be content and satisfied with the legendary work even if he never complete's berserk.
just look how long one volume of GameofThrones takes to write. The longer the story is ongoing the more you have to keep track of everything.

Shift to digital artwork was pretty good imo, the detail in background art improved as well since you don’t lose quality on smaller parts and that you can copy and paste stuff so he can still make really detailed pages yet shorten the time he works on them.
Is the training of assistants the only concern for Miura? I think he wrote himself into the corner a bit. As many years as I've thought about it, I can't imagine an end for Berserk with the gargantuan power gap between Guts and Femto. But this is the assumption that Femto has to be defeated for the series to end. Only thing I do know for sure, the longer it takes to end, the likelihood of getting an ending decreases.
As a writer, it took me a year and a half to complete 14K words of material for the intro of a story I was writing. I am highly obsessive with details, phrasing, pacing, and doing everything in my power to ensure that whatever I'm writing is not only well-described, but well-realized, and this can be extraordinarily taxing. There are so many times where I wanted to give up, throw in the towel, and I only kept going because I felt like I had an obligation, an internal command to finish my work, and finish it properly, and truly, no matter how long it took, no matter who I upset, if I fucked up, I'd regret it forever.
The only way I can stay sane as a Berserk fan is to forget that it exists until a new chapter releases. I'm just going to buy the hardcover editions, and hope that by the time those catch up, some sort of progress has been made in the new chapters.

Guys, Miura can't finish Berserk because the story of abuse that he's telling HAS no ending. Trauma, PTSD, has no credit scrawl until the day you die, and the ending will almost always be a sad and anticlimactic one. You don't fall in love, go to war, come back and lose your spouse, go homeless, and die in an alley, and think anyone on the planet will have a care in the world you ever existed.

So he and the other members go their own way as well. 7.) Guts gives up his mercenary swordsman life. 8.) The god hand and all the demons are stuck forever never able to harm people, because Griffith died.

As a Berserk fan for 18+ years, I don't like Duranki at all. The sexualisation is more than questionable. Had the same problem with Gigantomakhia and "lately" (like last 10 years...) with Berserk itself. Duranki shows anything, except the art, I dislike about Berserk since volume 22-25. I'll continue to read Berserk, but I also don't give a fuck if it doesn't come out and I'm tired of waiting and hoping for a new chapter. I'm not optimistic and I don't think this series will be finished in a way it deserves, if at all. Miura still cares about it. This is a clear sign, there is still some hope, but there is also this feeling, that he doesn't want to do it anymore and doesn't enjoy it at all. After 30+ years this is understandable, but he should just perma hiatus for 5 to 10 years or cancel it for good. Giving someone false hope is worse than just saying the sad truth. Berserk is on a level he can't handle anymore.
@moon child Berserk is an amazing manga and I like its dark and complex story a lot. I can even say this is definitely one of the best written and drawn manga I've seen in my 33 years. But Berserk changed and so do I. I'm objective enough to see that it changed in a way I dislike, but this doesn't change my opinion about what my experience was till a certain point and my general view of it. Those changes are just one half of my issues with Berserk. The other half are the uncertain releases. My feeling is as I said, he doesn't want to do it anymore and doesn't care about it as much, as in the past. Modern Berserk is a certain continuation of cliffhangers, with uncertain resolvement. Take this example. There is this one show you like, but they start to release one episode and after that there is no info on the next one for months and maybe years. After some time a episode drops, again with an massive cliffhanger, and its gone, again. How many years will it take to kill off your fanbase doing so?

I really believe that Miura and it's delays on berserk are him finding a perfect way to continue the lore and make a new arc as glorious as was the golden arc. I'm convinced that he's very thoughtful of that
I wonder how the assistants feel about their circumstance and why the publishers agreed to this flawed exercise.
Would be great to get a 3hr interview with Miura and a single interviewer just probing deep into all his methodology and history. (Never gonna happen)

I remember when I started reading the manga thinking it had already ended...yeah it didn`t lol.
As a detailed obsessed artist I can understand his reasoning completely. There is a spark of ambition inside all of us. This spark can become a raging flame given the right circumstances. It's a personal feeling I empathize. Comparing him to my own work I can say that he will explode with more berserk someday. He's just not mentally prepared yet. Cause he knows it's going to be a major pain in the ass to draw. deep down there is a raging fire somewhere. Makes sense he's timid. Especially after that choppy cg anime from 2016 got alot of hate. Probably set him back too. Clearly his level of detail gives him great anxiety. Plus he's already successful so I mean that can be ambition killer right there. Mark my words there will be a time when it bounces back
This all seems as simple as Berserk being his magnum opus, resulting in extreme amount of protection/perfectionism. Berserk is at this point, his life's work. While he says he wants to get his assistants to a level where they can help more and more with Berserk, I guarantee that bar gets higher and higher with time. Berserk is his child, and he needs it to be absolutely perfect.
I pray for Miuras health so that he may finish this master piece.
This video comes off as kind of entitled. Miura doesn't owe us anything, nor should he feel pressured to change the process he uses to create Berserk, as it's his work and he should let his assistants assist him as much as he sees fit. Duranki is also a way for his assistants to draw more art which gets published, due to their minimal involvement in Berserk and it's hiatus'.
True, it might come across as me being entitled, but it’s more to do with irritation, which I apologise for. At the end of the day we’re getting more Duranki and less Berserk, he doesn’t owe me a thing, but it’s still a shame, so I made that disappointment clear for this video.
At this point with berserk, I have no issue if he just releases a short novel that finishes the story with no illustration.
We have waited so long for Berserk to end that we are now in the Eclipse.

Everytime I see a new chapter of berserk on mangareader I do a Mozgus ritual holding the latest manga volume in my hand. It's really painful but not nearly as much as the wait for the new chapter.

I'm okay with Duranki being his focus if it really does give him confidence in his assistants' artwork. It's a really good Manga so far. And judging by how good the art is, it won't be long before berserk gets the attention it needs. Plus we've gotten a couple berserk chapters since this video. Hoping 2021 delivers.
