Awesome hunt guys. What I wouldn't give to be "40" again !!!! You boys have a lot of good years left. At 63 I still make the 1400 mile trek to Colorado every year, going on 30 straight years. As long as I can still pull a bow back / I'm going. Running out of willing hunting partners though ! There is no words to describe the feeling of fall in the elk woods, It keeps me going, literally !! Don't ever take it for granted, we who are allowed to do this are truly blessed; family / God / Freedom, and our health. Thanks for sharing the hunt and also leaving in the emotions; that's what it is all about. That bull is what dreams are made of. Congrats.
Thank you Big John! That’s awesome you have been that dedicated and I hope to be going strong at your age as well. That’s truly impressive. Wishing you the best and many more memories will be made. The mindset you have is what it’s all about. Thanks again and good luck to you.
Great bull....was worried after you passed the smaller one...lol. Paid off big time and amazed at how fast he went done....would not have guessed that! Congrats and thank you for sharing!
Thanks Chris! Was an incredible experience and I would have went home happy without filling a tag. Good luck to you and thanks for the kind words and for watching.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope everyone has a chance to share a hunt and/camp with their fathers. I tell all of those I know who still have that in their lives, to cherish the moments
Thanks for the kind words. September in the mountains is a special place. I sure wish I could find a way to be there every year. So jealous of those who live in the west. Thanks for watching as well.
Great video! Making memories what its all about! you guys put the work in and it payed off, mental toughness is a huge part of archery elk, IMO. And you were rewarded with a GREAT BULL! Good luck this Sept. if your headed back west.
Thank you James for the kind words. So wish we were headed back this fall bud we are about every other year at best. Wish I could find a way. Best of luck to you!
Magic video! watching from Australia and living vicariously through legends like you guys. Love that you put prety much the entire hunt into the video as it gives real perspective to the GRIND and effort you guys put in. That is ONE SPECTACULAR BULL!. AMAZING is an understatement. Thats what its all about two great mates up on the mountain living the Dream!
Outstanding hunt . Precious moments undoubtedly. Happy birthday! You’re father is proud . The family will get inspiration from their father overcoming adversity. I agree the time in the mountains makes me a better husband father and son . I should draw a general this year. If not 2023 no doubt. Grizzlies bad in that area ?
Thank you Richard. Your kind words mean a lot and I couldn’t agree more on the adversity. Best of luck to you in the coming fall or 2023. I would love it if you would reach back with a story of your hunt. No encounters with Grizzlies for us thank goodness!
Thank you Twisted Arrow. It was a bit of a bull over film moment for me, but definitely a lifetime bull and memory for us. Sure wish I could pull off an elk trip every year, but I’m more of an every other year at best currently, but I love it. Thanks for the kind words and good luck to you!
Very cool Dylan, was starting to wonder if it was going to come together for you guys. Always love it when it does. Been on 2 elk hunts with no elk to show but some awesome country was enjoyed. Congrats
Thank you Brad. We were wondering as well and it sure felt like we were missing our opportunities up until that all came together. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Good luck to you!
I lost my hunting season this year due to getting covid and as of Oct 31st I'm still on oxygen, so no chance at even a late season hunt. Videos like yours have helped keep me motivated for next year. Great job and what an amazing elk. Definitely some awesome general license areas in Wyoming (I'm in Cheyenne). Loved the whole video. Congrats on a monster!
Thanks so much for the kind words and I’m terribly sorry to hear that you are dealing with that. Such a tough thing to be sidelined. I can’t imagine and we are truly blessed to get out in the outdoors. Best of luck to you on your recovery and I’m rooting for you to get back out there when your health returns. Stay strong and thanks for the comment.
@@ksdoubledrop I do a Ton of Whitetail hunting in the midwest and always have wanted to go out west for elk. trying to find a group of guys and researching a unit is where I struggle to pull the trigger. Any tips on things you found helpful in selecting your unit?
@@jeremybenson6820 , that's awesome and my number 1 recommendation is to just do it. I think that is by far the only way to truly learn and gain an appreciation for the sheer size of the areas. I think podcasts and UA-cam have flattened the learning curve a ton since I dove in, but I'm constantly learning and can't get enough. I still love CO OTC for just learning and if you can learn how to hunt it, I believe you can get it done anywhere. GoHunt is a great resource for strategically planning ahead. As much as I hate the preference point game, I have committed and have a spreadsheet to keep track of and remind me when to apply. Elk101 podcasts keep you informed on when the draws are coming for each state or application periods and they go in order. Follow them and GoHunt for a lot of that. Paul Medel has intrigued me forever and I look for anything I can get from him and listen over and over and over. Just search that or he is also known as "Elk Nut". He has a $10 app that is also good. Let me know I can help any more, but I am torn up with whitetails and have been my whole life, but the elk bug has taken the top spot for me lately. Love the West. Good luck to you!
Thank you Eric, and I couldn’t agree more. Maybe if we had 2-3 I could find a way to get out there every year. No place or time like it. Thanks for the kind words and good luck to you!
For sure. I wasn’t proud of it and unfortunately the video didn’t reflect that very well. You hear me right after the shot state that it was back. I was trying to stay off the shoulder and if you watch the shot in slow motion, even though it was out of focus, you see he drops a lot before impact and elk lungs go much further back than most realize. As he went out into the meadow, the view that stands out is that exit hole and he was quartering a bit when he ducked on the shot. I didn't realize that at the time, but that's no excuse. Either way, I completely agree and let my nerves get to me and maybe would have put it a bit tighter to that shoulder in hindsight. I got a bit rattled and didn’t get it touched off perfectly. I will say, I practice more than most and was dialed prior to that trip. I’m sure you are a hunter and know things don’t always go perfectly as intended. Thanks for watching and for the congrats.
How'd you like that seek outside tarp/ tent? Do you think you needed the nest? We just picked up and couple and thought about gong without the nest for elk.
Hi Nathan, to be honest, I wasn’t even sure what brand it was. My buddy Ryan had purchased it and I though it was just fine for two but would be more than roomy for 1. For the purpose, I thought it worked great! I have only used solo tents for other elk hunts and this was definitely an upgrade. Setup and tear down was very easy as well.
Cool. We used a 3 man big agnes last year in CO. It was about 4 lbs and just to much tent. It's me and my 16 yr old daughter. So we swapped to the seek outside. I appreciate your response. Good work on the video and beautiful bull!!
That was an awesome hunt! Don't worry about all the negative commenters. Beautiful country and a great bull. Is this a draw unit, and were there grizzly bears in the area?
Thanks Merv and you bet on the negative comments. I don’t take them personal for sure and film for the memories and that’s it. It’s people like you that remind me others out there enjoy watching all hunting experiences as they are each unique. I sure like watching the variety of others out there. This was a General tag and we at least didn’t encounter any grizz. We were advised they were present in the area. Best of luck to you and thanks again.
Thank you HerdBull! Wish I could guarantee continued elk video as I wouldn’t miss a season if it were up to me. I absolutely love the west and I’m primarily a whitetail guy, but love it all out there. Thanks for the comment and kind words.

Appreciate the feedback. That's the beauty of sharing the things we do. All good feedback though. A lot to learn in the outdoors and I try to get better every day. I film for my own reasons if you read the "About" portion of my channel. I choose to share mostly at the request of others, but I can learn a lot from people like you. Thanks
Yeah, that’s true. I like to tell the full details of the hunts when I am unable to capture it all with just footage. Sometimes I get caught up In the hunt and don’t always film what I should. If you read the description of my channel, I don’t film for anyone but myself, family, friends and it is all for the memories. However, I do like to share with anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
