See where the monarch butterflies spend their winters. Swarms of monarch butterflies create an awe-inspiring scene in Mexico. The majestic monarch makes the epic journey- up to 3,000 miles (4,500 km)-from as far as Canada to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. The local guides have great pride in showcasing this beautiful, protected habitat to visitors. Pedro Martinez is one of those guides, who recalls how the monarchs were once considered a plague and faced eradication before the sanctuary was established. He’s in awe of these small yet strong insects, but worries about their welfare when they leave the safety of the sanctuary and travel north.

Without knowing it, I bought a plant at a store and earlier this year noticed little caterpillars on it eating all the leaves. I realized that it was the famous Monarch butterfly and we raised 11 from that one plant. I bought some more plants but now is not the season for them.

people forget that Butterflys were once caterpillars, that nature allowed them to have wings.
But people dont make videos of trees covered in caterpillars, eating the life blood of the tree.

But most of the time, the tree survives.
And monarch caterpillars don't eat the tree. The butterfly hibernates there. Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed, which is a perennial, so it comes back each year in the spring. The monarch butterfly will lay eggs on the plant according to how big the plant is and how many other milkweed is in the area. So, it won't lay 200 eggs on a singular milk weed plant. Maybe 5 or six.
That's just nature. You must eat to survive.
