Danny, it has been af hard year for a garden. I thank the good Lord for what I get and am thankful for what he provided for me. It could have been nothing.
Well done loyal and faithful servants that y’all 2023 sweet potatoes 🍠 harvested. I’m will be harvest mine in November zone 9B. I have put slip in July 9.
Between the heat and rain and my work schedule it’s been a rough garden year, especially for harvesting. I’m thankful for what God has given me. Strawberries and potatoes did especially well.
That has to feel so rewarding to dig the ground and see all of the sweet potatoes laying there. You two are such hsrd workers and smart workers...Mrs.Steve
Amazing harvest for the conditions they faced. When you have finished harvesting and have longer to process each variety, could you grab an example of each type and discuss the pros and cons of each variety please?😊
You're sweet potatoes look awesome looks like you had a good harvest. This is my third year growing Georgia Jet sweet potatoes hopefully a good harvest this year. First-year growing other varieties of sweet potatoes planted 50 plants this spring.
Where are you located? Which variety has been most productive for you? I’m central MS zone 8a. Beauregard has done really well for me in the past over two Asian varieties & white potatoes. Haven’t dug my Beauregards yet this year. 🤞🏽
So thankful for the rain you received. We have gotten a few sprinkles lately. Our sweet potato harvest was a bust this year. But the rest of our garden was a decent yield; Praise the Lord! It’s just been a difficult year for gardening. We have lost trees with this heat and drought. One big oak I’m so sad to lose, but it will make good firewood. Blessings to you and Wanda 🙏🏻
I planted Georgia Jet I have not harvested yet here in east central indiana. I have seen a few poking up through the soil so I know I have potatoes. Praying for a good harvest.
I'm in southern indiana. My garden has done very well this year but we've had somewhat consistent rain until these past few weeks . All my taters have done very well
I'm in southern IL, and I pulled a couple 4+ Lb Georgia jet potatoes on a test-dig late last week. I'm digging them tomorrow. I only put 23 slips in the ground, since I wasn't sure how they'd do (1st time sweet tater grower). This is a new plot that I just planted for the first time last year, so that may have some play in it. Our kennebek potatoes, planted next to the georgia jets, yielded a solid 200 pounds off of 20 pounds of seed potatoes! I feel more than blessed.
We are happy yawl got some rain. We are at 92 days with out any rain. Next week we will finally get some. Nice harvest for the way the weather was. God bless.
Thank you for taking the time to film your Cub in action. Just trying to get all the animals fed lately has been really taxing for us. We have also been traveling about 13 miles away to help with a neighbor’s barn. We have a break in the heat and are doing a lot after dark also. It’s all we can do to keep up. I cannot imagine trying to film and edit on top of all of that. Every time I see a video of y’all’s lately, I’m so grateful for all of the extra effort. I’ve gotten myself a couple of notebooks and my new pastime is watching the old videos and taking hand written notes. Looking at all of the old stuff with a new perspective❤ Thank you for all of the extra effort you make to help the rest of us! Got my Danny corn seeds and hope to follow those notes to the letter! Blessings from the river swamp❤
I love sweet potatoes. 😊 Mine will be ready next month. Very excited as it’s my first time growing them and I made the slips myself so I’m extra invested in the harvest. I’m only growing a small amount in grow bags because I’m the only one in my family that will eat them. Still I am super excited to see how they did! I’ll be happy with just about anything lol. 😂🍠Maybe next year I’ll invest in more variety but this year I made slips from two store bought ones and it’s been a fun project! I have to protect them from leaf cutter ants (they decimated my first patch of slips in the ground). So I have to be very vigilant.
Everyone please pray for people that are short on groceries. There is an in between where you make too much to get get help but you don't have enough. There's medical bills medicine. Some don't have insurance because they work below medium wage. And don't say they don't do that. Yes they do and they divide tips even if you don't do your share. People are having to move in together to try to live. Be merciful and pray in Ernest. Thank you Lord. Pretty soon the ones that pay insurance on houses are going to let go. Phones and social media will go to eat and have shelter
Georgia Jet is what i like to grow, they have no strings and are great keepers, i keep them year long in my basement. They can well too. you'll like them.
Texas 8a: I planted Beauregard & Muraski from Hoss. for my garden I have large livestock watering trough containers. I watered thru this drought. I planted about 2 weeks after you. I will let you know in 2 weeks what I harvested.
My beauregard potatoes did the same thing as for the long thick roots, and they were ready (by my estimation) 2 to 3 weeks before they should have been. It was a good thing I'd gone out to get some of the greens! Potatoes were sticking up out of the ground. NE Alabama.
I have grown Covington for several years. They seem to store incredibly well… have had them after curing, boxed in Newspaper that were perfect nearly a year later.
We grow the Covington sweet potatoes here in east TN and they have done great. I think you will like the taste of them. What a blessing that despite the drought, you have harvested a good amount of sweet potatoes. I'm looking forward to seeing how your other ones have done. God truly is so good.
WOW so interesting as I have noticed my sweet potatoes vines are not growing as fast as they used to- but we are just into Spring so let us see Cheers Denise- Australia
Howdy Danny and Wanda. Looks like the rabbits are going to be enjoying some sweet potatoes. Covington's still seem to be the ones that will do best in the hear. Even though the Georgia Jets won't be the potatoes of choice I'm glad you have them to can. Thanks for sharing. I'm appreciating see the different potatoes your digging up. Rich blessings to you both 😀💓
I'm growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. Just a few, to ease the learning process. Beauregard and the purple flesh purple skin are the slips I got. I can't wait for harvest. Hopefully I can store them properly so I can grow a ton next year.
Good morning, everyone. Just to say it’s been a weird year for root crops too for me (UK). Different weather obviously. No rain in June when I planted my potatoes late. Rain and no sun in July. Then by early August the potatoes were done. Plants began to die back 20-60 days before they were expected to. I dug a few up and they were the largest 2nd early potatoes I’ve ever grown. Slugs/bugs were already attacking one or two so I lifted them all quick. Quite honestly I was astounded at the quantity and size. I reckon they should have been lifted at least a week earlier. One variety that I use for (never fail) tasty, lump free mash takes around 90-120 days. 70 days and they were done. In-ground carrots are all green and little root. Onions finished early too. Stems died back rapidly a good month earlier than usual. Every year is different of course but I’ve never experienced potatoes growing so quick and large especially as they had no rain and very little haulm growth for the first month. Just didn’t make sense. The mash variety potatoes were grown under weed suppressant fabric sown direct through little holes into a weed whacked cover crop. I was already late planting and didn’t have time to prepare the ground. Nor did I want to spend time hilling up. The other waxy salad/boiling potato variety were sown into a well prepared area and hilled. I did have another area of the same waxy potatoes that were planted two months earlier than the above from which I’d been harvesting for fresh eating. They gave no sign of rapid growth or bounty. By the time I’d nearly finished that patch, the others were all more than ready to harvest. I’m so glad I checked because I’d have lost the lot. The main crop potatoes that are usually harvested in October were wiped out by an overnight blight in rainy July as were the outdoor paste tomatoes. None of the other potatoes or tomatoes (home seed) were affected. I also have a permanent area of mixed variety potatoes under woodchips. Like Paul Gautschi’s. Never gets blight. Ever. I use this as a winter harvest bed should I run out of potatoes. For security. And nowhere else to store! 😄 Banged on a touch but thought folk might be interested and maybe encouraged to check their potatoes early this year…..
That's an amazing, unexpected blessing! I've been praying you guys got a decent harvest! Been a strange growing year! I prayed and prepared for 100# of potatoes, got 33 but we're up to over 60# of tomatoes and the green beans went nuts this year, so I am thankful nonetheless...shared with family and had to acquire more canning jars. lol.
Good morning, I live in eastern NC, watched you plant a lot of your sweet potatoes. I planted Covington , Beauregard and something from the grocery store. The Covington's out performed all of them will be planting them next year. I had thought of planting Georgia Jets as well may hold off and stick with the Covington and maybe Vardaman since the vines are not so long. I am growing in my back yard. Its been dry here off and on but nothing compared to what you have been living through as well as those in Texas. Praying for you .
Tried growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I purchased 50 slips from an online vendor. I had fantastic top growth. But that was it. I dug today, (inground for approximately 115 days), and I have less than 2 lbs. We should be getting our first frost in about 20-30 days. My largest one is about 2"in width and about 4" long. Not what I expected, but it was my first time, and maybe by ground was too compacted, not enough specific nutrients, not sure. But it was an attempt, and I will hopefully have a better go next season.
Yes this year was hard on gardens I think God for the harvest that we got sweet potato didn't do to good but we did get enough for us but I like to share but maybe next year it be better 😊
Covingtons are my favorites, but Beauregards are all we can get locally. The raccoons got most of my slips (draws) by digging up the potatoes. Mine aren't due to be dug for a couple more weeks, so we'll see how they do
My carrets did the same beets didn't come up . Bugs eat on my green beans my tomato was like cherry tomatoes but I tried . Keep up the good work Danny and Wanda .
I am in the Florida panhandle and I grow the vardaman and muraski which always do really well the first 2 30 foot beds I got 127 pounds I still have 2 beds to go
Danny & Wanda, PRAISE GOD for all these taters for y'all! I'm leaning towards thinking that it had to be Your Extreme heat that has made your Georgia Jets come out the way they have because ours are long and even ,no pest damage! We're in Kentucky! Plenty of rain and decent temperatures. Also experienced large amount of Harvest with them! Followed your sweet potato manual to the T as this was our very 1st time ever growing them❤❤❤❤❤
Good morning Ms Wanda and Mr Danny. We planted Vardaman and white sweet potatoes this year and we'd plant both again next year. Those white sweet potatoes are easier to peel and cut. I can already hear Ms Wanda say "the canning kitchen is open".
I have three six foot round bags of sweet potatoes to harvest but they are not ready yet , I’m in new Hampshire. I am very curious to see what come out of them since we had soooo much rain 🌧 here but the vines are beautiful now with flowers that are purple 😊
I raise Georgia Jets here in Minnesota because they mature earlier than others. The only time mine get round like turnips is if left in the ground too long. They are a prolific sweet potato that taste great, arent stringy, and store well. I have to start my slips in January.
We tried several kinds. Georgia Jets are our favorite. They produce well ,are not stringy ,and keep well. We have some shaped like that but also some long slender ones ,wonder if the heat and drought affected the shape.
Thank God for small blessings. He provided food for the year. The blessing may not be exactly what you want but it has been provided for you to use. My peppers went crazy this year and tomatoes weren't very successful. Be blessed and stay safe.
Fall just hit here. From 90s to 70s. Hope u guys cool off soon! Hoping to try growing sweet potatoes next year! Love them but will see if I can get them to grow taters here in n Idaho!
I just wanted you to know how God works His wonders. We had zero squash this year until a volunteer squash grew in the middle of my green beans. I have picked over 14 large zukes from that one plant and it is still bearing with no sign of disease. Never had that happen , that was God's work. Also my potato crop was amazing. I did nothing extra to them because I had been very sick. The only strange thing was the cucumber seed we planted turned out to be miniature acorn squash over 30 from 5 plants. God knew we needed them more than pickles.
God Bless You both wonderful ppl. I like to think if I'd of ever got to meet my Grandparents they would of been a lot like ya'll. Watching ya'll jus gives me constant hope n a blessing of peace in the Lord of his promises to US. I pray constantly that he sustains us to be able to keep doing n providing for our families as long as possible keeping our faith in Him. Thank you so much. Much love hug's n respect.
For what it’s worth, there are varieties of canna lilies that produce 20# in a 2’x2’ space. The tubers are supposed to be delicious and nutritious, and the flowers are edible, too.
Down here in the state of Alabama in the middle of Alabama a lot of people plant the Covington's for things like french fries and stuff like that and when they plant the Georgia jets they use them for candied yams, pies and baking. I personally don't know anybody in our area that plants the Beauregard, I think a few people try them and didn't like them they had the same problem that you did.
I love the taste of Beauregard! Mine didn't make a huge harvest but you can't beat the sweet, sticky, moist taste! But, like everyone else I'm looking for what will work in the heat and drought!
Georgia Jets are the best variety I've grown here in Northeast Pa. Good size, keep well, taste good, store well. What more could you ask? Oh, and yield well too. Maybe they don't like the heat in your area?
I’m trying sweet potatoes here in Massachusetts for the second year. I grew my own slips from last year using what I learned from you guess and David “ the good” Goodman. I’m going to try and see if I can grow them inside over the winter under grow lights.
Hey Danny & Wanda ... love your youTube channel. You two do a great job. Thanks for the great information. I planted Cherokee Tan pumpkins in early June. They have the normal extemely vigorous vines, but have only now started bearing fruit. My largest pumpkin is the size of a billiard ball. Our frost date is Oct 15, so do you think any of the pumpkins can reach maturity by then? Do you know the days it takes for the pumpkin to mature from the time it sets on the vine? Also, I plan to plant these again next year if I can find the seed. Do you know if you will have seed to sell for next year's garden?
I've been crying like crazy over the Danny Corn 😢 At this point I'd be willing to buy 10 seeds off anyone who got 2 packages of Danny Corn....I Too was Really looking forward to having just a bit. If I'm actually able to get some purchased & you don't get any I'd gladly share a few seeds with you ❤❤❤
I'm hoping my 25 Georgia Jets do well. Want a good one and not waste space here in the north. I'm thinking early October in the north. Had great success with russets. Others not so great. Have to go with what works. Huge and none were popping out of the ground either. I thought it was my smoke detector was going off.
Danny, it has been af hard year for a garden. I thank the good Lord for what I get and am thankful for what he provided for me. It could have been nothing.

yes! God blessed you all!
It just warms my heart to see you so blessed with this unexpected good harvest. God is good, all the time.
How could anyone NOT believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? What pitiful souls they must be.
It’s amazing they even made in the extreme heat and drought!

Blessed
God Bless You both wonderful ppl. I like to think if I'd of ever got to meet my Grandparents they would of been a lot like ya'll. For what it’s worth, there are varieties of canna lilies that produce 20# in a 2’x2’ space. The tubers are supposed to be delicious and nutritious, and the flowers are edible, too.
Interesting
My Beauregard were almost all black😢thankfully I planted more than one variety!
I’m trying sweet potatoes here in Massachusetts for the second year. I grew my own slips from last year using what I learned from you guess and David “ the good” Goodman. I’m going to try and see if I can grow them inside over the winter under grow lights.
The Lord provides all our needs according to His riches in glory.
God is definitely giving you a bumper crop, and I'm so pleased for you. Blessings 😊

I've been crying like crazy over the Danny Corn 😢 At this point I'd be willing to buy 10 seeds off anyone who got 2 packages of Danny Corn....I Too was Really looking forward to having just a bit. If I'm actually able to get some purchased & you don't get any I'd gladly share a few seeds with you ❤❤❤
This is my first attempt at growing sweet potatoes. Red Garnet is one of the varieties.
If take some of those Georgia jets... Put through a good processor and make sweet potato pie!
I'm hoping my 25 Georgia Jets do well. Want a good one and not waste space here in the north. I'm thinking early October in the north. Had great success with russets. Others not so great. Have to go with what works. Huge and none were popping out of the ground either. I thought it was my smoke detector was going off.
Stay close to Jesus and God bless y’all. (Old guy from Arkansas)🇺🇸
