What is pemphigus vulgaris? Pemphigus vulgaris is a rare autoimmune skin disorder that causes blisters or bullae because there’s separation of skin cells.
Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune muco-cutaneous condition occurring as a result of inappropriate production of auto-antibodies against the desmosomes holding the epithelial cells together, leading to an intra-epithelial blister formation. There is widespread ulceration of the skin, oral mucosal and other mucosal surfaces causing much pain and debilitation.
Though there are few treatments for pemphigus vulgaris, a rare disease, the Believe-PV trial of PRN1008 raises the possibility of a new, better option.
