Incredible comment.
Jocko may be the only case in history where someone uses the word “behold” seriously and it works. Shit was epic.
Ohhhh YES!!!!
At least after the year 500
That was straight out of a Viking invasion
That made me want to run through a brick wall.

Congrats to Echo Charles for earning a black belt especially with skinny knees.
hey man, skinny knees is a terrible affliction that affects a lot more people than you know. Its not a handicap, they can accomplish just as much as the rest of us.

I had skinny knees once. I still do, but I did back then too.
Knees is a damn bone.
Word on the street is that Echo only started Jiu-Jitsu all of those years ago to finally get a hug from Jocko one day.
Don’t focus on “The Hug”
@@jfr45er exactly 🤣
He said fuck the "bro hug" I'm getting my black belt for the full two arm hug.
@@jfr45er best damn comment on youtube.
More men have probably summited Everest than gotten a hug from Jocko.
I LOVE that you can see the most hardcore of men get emotional when they accomplish something they have worked SO hard for!
Men are equally, if not more emotional than women but society has taught them to suppress their emotions. Most aggression from men doesn't just come from being a man and thus having more testosterone but also from constantly suppressing their emotions which then bottle up and can cause occasional outbursts of anger.
@@laaaliiiluuu I have tantrums daily so I'm all good.
@@jsj381 Then you should figure out what causes those tantrums. Calming the mind by solving the cause and practicing meditation is worth more than gold. I used to have tantrums all the time until I stopped eating refined carbohydrates, started to exercise and meditate, get involved with a profession I am passionate about as well as a lot of self-reflection and therapy to solve the reasons for my suppressed anger. It's a lot of work but it's worth it. Time passes anyway. In five years you will have wished that you started today.
@@laaaliiiluuu More emotional than women? You must not have had alot of women around you in your life. They operate on emotions & process things with feelings first, & logic after.
Now I think to some extend because men aren't emotional as often, they might expierence emotions deeper of harder when they feel them.
That last part I'm not sure about but men are def not more emotional than women. Thats one thing I do know
@@buuriwinsto3471 Deeper emotions is what I meant. Sorry for being inaccurate. But I guess it depends on what "more" means: Quantity or quality? Men e.g. have a harder time getting over breakups. But yeah, I will be more accurate the next time.

This was actually a low key jiu-jitsu belt speach. The are usually longer & get way more emotional. This was done prior to training, usually the are done after or during training, so the probably desparate to start training 😅
This is what I want to be. A good man, in a good community. That’s all I want out of life. Congratulations Echo Charles, you earned it.
Then you already are. If your aspirations are to be good and do good, you have already conquered evil. Too many people fall prey to the trappings and draw of the garbage they see on the screen. Turn it off, help your fellow man and know there are plenty of us that stand with you! WWG1WGA!!

I love listening to Jocko Willink and Echo Charles. They are for sure Black Belt Instructors.
I think i just formed a tear in my non shooting eye
The training paid off lol
Now that's a reference lol.
Again, Jiu Jitsu provides another great lesson as Mr. Charles mentioned. "Don't focus on the belt."
If you focus on the belt, then your happiness and satisfaction depends on the belt promotion. Hence, the journey becomes a miserable struggle and as he said "your jiu jitsu becomes worse." Instead, focus on becoming a better grappler and the belt will come as a result of that.
The same in life. Goals are not bad, but often times we set a lot of goals and our happiness, satisfaction and sense of achievement are dependent on achieving those goals. Instead, we can focus on becoming better in the aspects that matter to us, and those goals will be achieved as a result of us simply getting better. This is the only way to truly enjoy the journey and be present in the moment.
Great point. Thank you!
I’m working towards a certification and this applies on so many levels.
Scott Adams talks about the same in his book, he advocates systems over goals. focus on the goal (belt) you are in a state of perpetual failure.
@@zv8291 I picked it up in James Clear's book "Atomic Habits". This principle seems to be popular, which is good. We need more successful people.

Damn, that's incredible. Oh and that "Behold!" was bone-chillingly awesome. I would not want that dude after me. Lol
What Echo Charles said about not focusing directly on the belt touched a soft spot in my heart for something challenging in my life I’m working up to. We glance at the tall mountain and think it’s going take forever to get up it. But if we put out head down and focus on each step we’re usually surprised when we reach the top and say that wasn’t as hard as I thought and I can’t believe I was all the way down there.

why am I crying? From the heart, well deserved.
Because, brother, this is what we are all longing for and so deeply lacking in our lives these days in these complicated times, brotherhood where men build up one another because we know the Corps, our communities and our families are better if we do so… so that when we part ways and return to our respective homes and cities we carry that codified ethos with us. I will tell you that’s one thing about getting out of the Marine Corps, or any branch of service I’m sure, that you really miss.. the camaraderie, the brotherhood… Each man is looking out for the other and would do anything to see you succeed and be stronger. We don’t have that in these modern days because we lack fortitude and community. Post modern American culture is hyperindividualistic. There’s nothing wrong with individualism, but when it’s gone as far as it has in our culture a sickness overcomes us as men… we yearn for connection with brothers in the race of man and when we don’t find that we shrivel up, we die inside… we have no one with whom to sit around the fire and tell war stories, hunting stories, and of great journeys. And really no one to even do those three things with in the first place. Men who strive and suffer together become bonded for life. That’s just something lost today; not totally, but it is exceedingly uncommon. This is why so many men are depressed, emasculated, down trodden, compromised, feel lost, find no solace in work and life today. We need more of this, brotherhood. Iron sharpening iron… men building up men, from the weakest among us to the strongest amongst us, with loving kindness, compassion, and patience but with firmness and uncompromising standards. Every city in America should have an organization like this, that doesn’t cost money, but wherein we all come together and agree to teach one another important skills because education in America is failing, and young men are being forced to compromise their masculinity in order to be “acceptable” by society. That is unsat! What if we taught each other business, taxes and business law, first aid, woodworking and metal working skills, mechanical skills, automotive skills, how to write well for the sake of resumes and work, how to speak foreign languages to get ahead in the workplace and find more opportunities… call it the Whole Man Society. (Unless something by that name already exists and it’s something really weird or controversial). If men sharpened men to be greater than they are today and become a whole man, built up in mind, body and spirit, there’s nothing we could not do as a nation, because a nation is comprised of people, not governments and politicians.
Congrats E.C. You deserve it bro. Good job staying on the path. 2 of my favorite guys right there. Jocko and Echo out. 👊💙🇺🇲

Look out for those people in your life. They wish no good upon you
I noticed him too, but after rewatching the clip, judging by how his hands were placed, i think he just stopped clapping earlier than others.
I think he was just taking it in very seriously
It's hard to assume what's going through his head. Maybe he's going through a divorce, his pet has died and he's still dragged himself in for Echo's grading and then gotten destroyed by everyone and now his brain is fried and he forgot to clap cause his mind was elsewhere. Anything is possible. If he really is a bad person then Jocko will know. I'll give him a pass on that one.
