Pixel Masking: for Ultimate Flexibility

- Masking is a very useful method of selecting only a part of an image or effect (such as Curves or Blur). However, you cannot use all adjustments and filters on masks and sometimes an alternative method seems to be needed.
So here is that alternative method, where you can use straight pixel layers or shapes directly as masks to both select or deselect much as you would by painting in black or white on a mask. What you are effectively doing with 'pixel masking' is painting with opacity (aka alpha or transparency), which gives you an alternative and more flexible method of selection.
