Not just the creatures are different but the characters too. Rockwell being evil from the beginning is upsetting as his descent into madness and corruption was the best part of the ark story.
They had to speedrun showing you just how bad/dumb/evil men are in this show
Tbf Rockwell was kind of a dick to begin with and didnt mind testing on human subjects

They also took away Halinas charm and discovererys. They also made the Roman guy an idiot even though in the original story he technically wins until he's killed by the queen of beasts. They changed so much that it's nothing like the original story other than people's names and the ark.

The Arthroplura’s in the show are not only tiny when compared to their game counterparts, but their real life counterparts as well. While not as big as the game version, the real animal could still get up to a size larger than your average human.
Beat me to it. I've looked up some size models and the thing could get as big as 3 meters. Not ARK game big, but big nonetheless.
Two meters long at most if I recall. Three meters is a dubious estimate.
Technically not true, there are multiple smaller species within the genus (ofc they are supposed to be the large ones though so having them be tiny is kinda bizarre unless they turn out to be babies)

For anyone who hasn't seen the show, I want you to know that Helena is saved from the Megalodon because a Leedsichthys, the giant filter feeder, ate it. They somehow wrote a character who studies paleontology without even studying paleontology themselves
The game doesn’t account for that either. The leedsycthees (or however you spell it) in game will attack rafts by biting them and will attack when hit.

The thing that bothers me is that they 100% have the capability to make it rideable in like 10 minutes, yet they don't.
The show just has Kraken's Better Dinosaurs installed. (That mod makes Purlovia rideable)

I’m just so confused that they were able to kill the broodmother using wild spiders and two low level people.
I like how the show does the bosses tho like since the brood is the weakest out of all and it’s just a bug slider

Makes wonder if the animators were even given proper information on what they were drawn for scale. Or if they thought it would make it more "realistic" or "Thrilling" to have dinos over sized.

@@asdoasdllasiuwiu Man I fuckin wish I did, mind you getting killed by random raptors after first spawning in is at least like of a fun nostalgic memory and gives the game some character. But like after that you kinda just run out of stuff to do eventually? Like it’s definitely not meant to be a single player game, it is infinitely more fun to mess around with friends. But if you wanna do that you have to get and maintain a server which costs money, and forget about playing on a public server because everyone there is just no fun at all and play the game like it’s their nine to five. I dunno I really wanna like the game still, but it’s just lost its luster. I try to just be appreciative of the good times and memories it did give me. And I feel like the show highlights some of the better parts as I remember them.

When the first trailer dropped I had never been more excited. After watching the first 2 or 3 episodes, I had never been more disappointed.
They have rideable Purlovia's, it's just not fair

Fun fact: achatina is a modern-day genus of snail, and about three times as big as it was in the show. The genus includes the giant African land snail, the largest land mollusk in the world. It is also NOT related to cone snails, like, at all. When I was watching the show with my brother I had to ask him to pause so I could go on an angry biologist rant.
It's honestly surprising how the show manages to be more inaccurate than the game that literally had to invent new species to explain how hilariously inaccurate it is

the creatures? yeah, but man they did rockwell bad. His slow descent into madness until he became what controls Abberation is what made him so interesting, him being pure evil from the very start is uhh, yeah that takes away all of that (he was always a bit off but not as bad as this).
Weren’t Helena and him friends, or at least have a friendly rivalry with eachother? I recall them sharing some tea as they discussed their discoveries.
@@windrider2190 Helena considered him a friend yes, Rockwell it's a bit iffy if he considered her the same. But Helena stuck by him until his end, and felt guilty that she couldn't help him more or prevent what became of him. Rockwell in the games lore wasn't exactly a saint per say, he used Minerva and his men for his goals and his obsession with element (which hardly feels present in the show despite it being the biggest part of his character).
Regardless, it was far better than how he was in the show, in the game Helena describes the monster as "Not the real Rockwell" and still held respect or care for him, she saw him as a lonely old man with isolation problems.
In the Sabretooths Dossier it says a well trained Saber can kill a Rex so I just assumed the size increase was with that in mind.
The Megalodon is also roughly 3 times bigger in the scene it chases Helena than in game...

@@Bretaxy actually they are probably the closest creatures in ARK to their real world counterparts in terms of size.
The average estimate of Otodus megalodon is 16 meters (52 ft) with the maximum size for the species being up to 20.3 meters long.
The species of Megalodon in Ark actually isn't even a true Megalodon because its species name is Carcharodon ultramegalodon. Which means it is probably evolved from Great White Dna and not even related to the real Megalodon at all.
In ark Carcharodon ultramegalodon. are 16 meters long, while the Alpha Megalodon is 22 meters long which puts it slightly bigger than the maximum size estimates for Megalodon.
So as you see we actually have Megalodons full realistic size range in Ark and its pretty accurate, they just look small to us because we are used to everything in ARK being oversized by roughly double in ARK.
(7 meter tall and 25 meter long Trexs for example).
It's not like a 2 meter size increase does a lot of difference in that case

Haven't seen it cuz I don't have Paramount+, but you do realize Lystrosaurs is actually around the height of a human right? Same as a troodon. Troodon is pretty much a Gallimimus/raptor. Ark isn't very accurate either.

Most animated shows have size inconsistencies like this, sometimes in one shot an object goes from 5 feet tall to 7 feet tall.
It's strange to see arthropleura be this small, they were actually huge irl and ark usually has a problem with its creatures being overly big rather than small (example: rhyniognatha)
wasnt a big fan of the show but canonicaly the ark adapts the inviroment to challenge the survivors this could lead to the growing of some animals or the shrinking of others
The whole point of the arthropleura is that its the giant Centipede from when the earth had too much oxygen

I don't even like the show, I think the protagonist is incredibly obnoxious and annoying and I hate what they did with Rockwell, who had such a cool "descent into madness" ark in the game, which they turned into "evil guy who is evil for the sake of being evil" from the beginning.

1. Culturally, my beliefs teach that being pro lgbt is the wrong way to go about life. This isn’t some crazy philosophy. It just opposes what the American left teaches (I’m assuming you’re American). This has been the norm for different parts of the world for centuries.
2. Just like you said about bad apples, the majority of the villains are big bad white guys who enslave and oppress. All of the hero’s are either gay, some oppressed race, or some mix of it. The protagonist is pushing “woke” ideology. That is my issue.

I question the validity of a belief that basically says people can be born "wrong". For instance, I'm asexual and aromantic, I just don't feel sexually or romantically attracted to anyone. It's honestly unfortunate to hear that I was literally born "wrong" according to some ideologies and live a "wrong life" by the merit of existing, but look.

The moment you push this on other people (by saying a show is bad by default for including a homosexual couple for instance...) it's not okay anymore. Our society would literally crumble if everyone was this dead-set on their beliefs.

About the racism... I honestly don't see it. I feel like it's way too much of a jump to accuse the showrunners of being racist just because Rockwell, a white guy, is an antagonist, but I don't think there's much use in discussing that.

Different regional area, same simulation/Island, meant that, maybe, the species evolved a bit differently to compensate for other creatures being larger or smaller.

I think it’s also (for the bugs at least) based on where they are located and age, as the varying sizes of the spiders with some of them being more like the actual game, and others being only slightly bigger than a regular spider.
I always thought the arthropleura and achatina were just young (probably fulfilling different ecological niches as they grow)
i see no issue- as over half of these creatures meant to be realistically sized (aswell as ARK's creatures taking inspiration from others aswell, the sabertooth is that big because of cave lions and smilodon specimens that got roughly that big)
The Ark's ecosystem is supposed to not give a shit about size accuracy lol

@oscargabrieldelaluzsanchez754 as several other inconsistancies can be found throughout the show, such as rockwell being a prick, or, as already seen, The seemingly smaller or larger creatures, which is meant to fit a niche in the show, with some realism (cat apex predator, so its big!) to (its a bug so its small!) But, Most of the sizes are much more accurate. As achatina only relatively got i believe a bit larger than that, and the largest cave lions and Specimens were alot closer to that size than they are in ARK
Literally no cave lion was that big stop lying and the bug was extremely undersized giving that it was 2 meters in real life .

But couldn't that be explained by them not having messed with the arks systems yet? Because if I recall it wasn't until the characters started fucking around in the systems did the ark change, like players being able to respawn after death.

Because some of these creatures might be able to kill them easier and I'm talking about the ones that are relatively small, while the larger ones could possibly be meant to be more intimidating, dangerous, and poses a challenge

I like to think that maybe the creatures were designed to be created based off of popular media, old research data and stuff when the arks were first created. Then new data came in one from an actual human came in with her(i forgot her name) when she became part of the ark when she became a deus or whats it called
Im not too indepth in the lore of ark, im more surface level.
It's simply because they hired individuals who do not care about the show. Or even look up information on how the animals and creatures look, move or act in the video game like we don't have UA-cam. And on top of that they made a carrier. That's a Mary Sue, simply because politics and ark survival evolved is a great game. It's fun!

There is no such thing as a "saber toothed tiger" while there are saber toothed cats such as Smilodon and Homothirium. They are not in the genus panthera, let alone a type of tiger.

Adaptations will pretty much always change aspects of the originals for better or worse. Change itself is not necessarily bad, for instance the animal sizes here doesn’t exactly mean too much in terms of story, bulking up a smilodon so it is more menacing is honestly not a bad thing. “But it should be just like the game” by that logic the characters should brake their legs when they get too hot or cold and look like inbred disfigured monsters instead of actual people
