A drag race is an acceleration contest, on a track, or dragstrip, that begins from a standing start between two vehicles over a measured distance. Drag races are a series of such two-vehicle, tournament-style eliminations. They drift, burnout, speed, in nhra or ihra, with a lot of horsepower. #racing #dragracing #wheelstander

Wheelstanders..,I salute them all. Not only they put on a GREAT show, it's a act that is almost if not gone in drag racing. I truly miss those summer night's watching the spark's fly..,thank's for the excitment through the year's.It was AWESOME!
I towed a truck into Chirico Summit Ca. that was pulling He'll on Wheels wheels. I got to climb in it and see what it felt like. They steer it with two hand brakes. There is a window in the floor board so the driver can see. This video brought back 40 year old memories. Thank you for posting it.
Joe and his Wife are doing great and living in North Carolina, use to go over to their house alot through the week and went racing at Mooresville Dragway, stand up family and made me feel right at home.
Yes they are!
@@bjkk5749 how do you know them, Rich and I are still good friends
FUN TRIVIA FACT - HELL ON WHEELS Wheelstander was orginally owned by Bob Perry, and was sponsered by the U.S ARMY.
hell on wheels is i say number 1 in wheelstanding
Sure have. Watched it plenty in Ohio.
ive seen the tank before at new england dragway and the pic up truck
I remember when this tank was stored on diamond street in Mansfield,Oh. I don't remember who owned it but remember hanging out there as a youngster just to get a peak lol
I thought I saw this wheelstander Hell on Wheels and Tucson Arizona Surplus Store
Not the same tank in either comment, sorry
If I remember correctly, Joe bought the tank from Bill Golden who got it from Perry. He told me he had to put alot of time & money into to get it straightened out & even had TCI custom build a torque converter for him. I talked to him whenever he came to New England Dragway as I used to work there and I'm also a 2nd generation Stockholder. Saw the tank run there when Bob Perry still owned it as well & he had electric wheelie bars that came down so he could do a funnycar style burnout. Joe said they caused handling problems so he got rid of them.
Your correct Moxie !...Scott Wesley Golden
@@scottwesleygolden1285 I remember a few wheelstanders from back then. I think Bill bought another one he ran briefly too. I wanna say "Magnum Force" that was a Dodge Magnum body. Danny Burmer bought the Chuckwagon which later wrecked. Smokehouse Curtis wrecked the SuperBug while driving for Marko Hildonen. They found one of the Young American Monza's Marko had and had it on display at NEDway a few years ago. It was in almost perfect condition, would've been cool to see it run again, it was a fast car for back then.
@@MoxieMike66 ...He owned the "LRW", Hell on Wheels, Super Ram, & Magnum Illusion ....good-job Brother Moxie ! and Nice chatting with you ! ScottyG
Also, I believe Lee Trevinos S10 was originally Danny O Day's Heartbeat High Wheelstander... or maybe that was the one Lebannon Valley has/had. Don't know what happened to the Wind up Pickup Ranger O Day had first. Haven't seen either one in years now.
I hate it when dragstrips have crappy music blasting while the cars are running. There's enough noise when the cars run and did we really need to hear "Maniac" from flashdance again?
When this was filmed, Hell on Wheels was owned by Joe Klimarchuk out of N Reading, Mass. I spent a lot of hours working on the car with them. It was a very cool car. It was heavy as hell, and took a ton of horsepower to make a full pass.
The video is 1996 I believe.
Who are you gunslinger4130?
@@bjkk5749 My name is Eric S. I was friends with Rich.
My gramps was in hell on weeks
I kick myself for losing Joes business card. He & his wife gave me a limited edition picture of the tank because they considered me a friend one of the last times they were at New England Dragway. I heard he lost his son and have tried finding out what happened to him & the tank. Last I heard was he wasn't doing well when I talked to Richard Hutchins (Chevy Rebellion) when he was at NED. I'd appreciate any info if anyone has any. thanks.
My dad is alive and well, not sure where you heard that moxiemike66
HOWkid If your dad's Joe K, glad to hear it. I hadn't heard or seen anything about him or the tank in years & wondered what happened. All the info I was getting was second hand from other racers.
