  • HOW TO MAKE THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC SHOVEL & SIEVE is a premium video focused on using our Goldfinder, Metal detector, plastic shovel/sieve and innovative approach to solve the problem of digging up and separating very deep Gold items without damaging the back. See the end of Description for The Gold, Coins And Treasure Ebook. Please note that we sometimes also dig up very deep trash. My Goldfinder XTR Metal Detector and plastic shovel/sieve has been very popular in the past, so I decided to create a series! And even a “how to Build the Goldfinder XTR” is available on my site. As with How to find Gold on the beach and Electronic Gold Prospecting, we continue to provide helpful videos and movies, with helpful hints and tips we have learned from our many Treasure Hunting Adventures. See our 10 live gold finds on camera and learn how and where to find Gold nuggets with our video, - how natural Gold occurs and HOW TO FIND RETIREMENT GOLD NUGGETS: SECRETS: TIPS & TRICKS.Please note that this shovel is a bit of a paradox,- in that the holes appear to make the shovel weaker but in fact,- if the holes are not put in high stress spots,- like near the handle ,-it actually becomes slightly stronger and more flexible. For those who are interested it is like adding a much larger atom like carbon to steel, to make it harder (The larger atoms together with the smaller atoms mixed, - lock the structure of the steel so it is less flexible- but much stronger) To Buy The Gold Coins And Treasure E- Book,- Best Price, Click this link,-

      Lot of work.. i cut it with a angle grinder cutting disc, but be careful of plastic burns. very durable in sand however...

    Great videos -well done very informative and helpful I've been into metal detecting for many years,and finally bought an Excalibur II last week,along with a stainless steel Ukraine scoop,I have been to Bunnings and purchased the green shovel and will mod that to be the same as yours as I mainly wish to water hunt.Your videos will save me lots of time in the field as I'll at least get the hardware side of things fairly well sorted instead of having to re address and think of how to mod etc.Thanks so much!

      Thanks..A lot to learn with this hobby. You can use a grinder cutting wheel to shape the shovel, but be wary of molten plastic burns and not breaking the cutting disk.

    I did a similar thing with a plastic shovel I got from Wicks in the UK but cut the front off straight, the shovel was only a few quid and it works really well. I have also made a sand scoop out off a plastic pipe, as yet untested but it looks good. I drill all my holes with a cone drill which gives a nice finish, and drill the holes just smaller than a 1euro cent. Love the safety angle, goggles, ear defenders and open toe sandals HAHAHAHAHA

    Just as a little FYI, I've found that using a step drill bit eliminates all the rough edges when drilling holes in plastic/PVC.

    • @GoldfindersAu
      @GoldfindersAu  7 років тому

      A backing of wood helps it from suddenly grabbing, but yes the last thing you want is to clean the holes after drilling

    Very creative! When I started detecting I drilled holes in a scoop made for feeding horses. I now use a Stavr scoop. Very good scoop. Have you ever tried one?

      See my video 'Metaldetecting #102: GOLD and silver rings!' on my channel.
      It works great. It even sifts wet sand! Also very usefull for detecting in the water.

    Great idea and a great design , A couple of pointers though how about using masking tape to get the shape set out and a 4" grinder to cut it cleanly and taper the front edge....

  • @SeattleRingHunter

    Love it great video, great attention to safety yet still uses flip flops and shorts! LOL This look like a great sand scoop for sandy beaches specifically. In Seattle we have a lot of ROCKY water front making digging a chore... Bet this plastic shove is much lighter than my stainless metal scoop!

    • @GoldfindersAu
      @GoldfindersAu  6 років тому

      Thanks Jeff.- Rocks are always a problem and yes they are very light and surprisingly strong. but works best for digging deep holes in in wet or dry sand.

    with some of the off cuts i would have made a protective shelf to protect the coil when being pushed into sand other than that thumbs up bloody awesome..!

    Hey there I know this is an old video but I was wondering if you could do an updated tutorial on the shovel you use now. Even just an easy run down. I see your new one you have more holes and it doesn't look as pointed. Thanks :) love your videos!!!

      @@Kira-fv3fp A update video is time consuming. Draw the two sides to a point with a texta , cut using a jig saw (stop Vibrations) or cutting wheel (Watch hot plastic) on a grinder or by hand saw (find someone who has the tools) and taper your cut,- with a heavy duty file then cut nicks in the top to keep your feet from slipping off when digging. the holes are the hard part, just drill 13 mm holes, not too close to each other and away from the edge or weak spots. I am experienced in using these tools and if you are not then for the purpose of safety beware that plastic can melt and burn,- and power tools can get you into all sorts of trouble. Do it carefully and you will have a very strong and useful tool for digging even packed sand and water. Mine has dug hundreds of holes and never fails to saves my back, when digging.- even deep holes, but there is no correct way to do this without doing something wrong, and have the shovel break on you, or running into problems using power tools. Just be careful. I will update the video in 2 weeks

      Thankyou soo much you're awesome. You don't need to update it I know that doing tutorials is very time consuming with editing the video etc. Thanks so much for your reply I appreciate it :) thanks for all the info I'll give it a shot :) I'll let you know how we go! Thanks again!!

    Hi michael bob manning here,A new but already loyal subscriber .You and Ed are the best but Ed speaks to much Spanish ,Thanks to him I know what basura means Anyhow I am a 67 year kid that has hunted for lures in lakes since I was a kid ,But never thaught about a detector .Problem I cant walk a long way and if I get down on a knee I cant get back up,However I can swim and float like a fish and I still have a lot of my old scuba pro stuff left from my diving days My question is what reasonably priced waterproof detector do you sugest for a beginner on a pension . To start my range is knee to chest .snorkeling in swimming areas Thanks Mike

    • @GoldfindersAu
      @GoldfindersAu  6 років тому

      Hi Bob- If you just shallow hunt then any vlf with water proof coil. I silicone the coil connector on my whites and use that in shallow water. The main problem with under water is coil drag and retrieving the target that is why I use a simple home made coil and a floating bucket for waist deep hunting.

    how many people do you think saw you use the circ saw so they used one and didnt brace the shovel with there feet and wonder why they didnt get a nice cut :) , i would probly do the same with the grinder i use one every day so a bit of plastic in the guard doesnt phase me. will probly also just get all the odd sharp and annoying bits of plastic left over off with a stanley blade. thanks heaps for the measurements one thing i didnt think about was running a home made coil on it until i saw your videos. should be easy enough to rig up a pi or uno with a coil

    • @GoldfindersAu
      @GoldfindersAu  5 років тому

      I learned that the hard way.. circular saw can shatter the plastic... grinder ..plastic burns... drills grab and go strait through with no base... many people don't like too much detail i think.

  • @bobdls
    @bobdls 8 років тому

    Try turning the blade on the saw around the other way, it stops the material from burning so much and it will stop the chances of any kick back from the saw.

I'm in the process of buying my first rig for detecting trying to get some great ideas and do the research before I buy and not make too many mistakes and spend too much unnecessary money. I have been pricing the sand sifters and what not and I cannot believe how much they charge for those things. Your idea is great
