@@marianocarlinivisintainer8024 Well it does kinda matter, because this person is saying she is the most English person ever and the United Kingdom is not English. It doesn't say 'English' on a birth certificate. It says British. And Emma Thompson being British and also half Scottish and spending the majority of her life in Scotland outside work, would make her pretty much the last candidate for most English person ever. So it does fucking matter.
That truly was the best speech ever!!! A truly remarkable intelligent woman giving us insight on the dynamics of Jane Austin. Truly incredible speech. love it!!
Emma Thompson, it's such a beautiful moment when you know that words haven't been invented to describe her, Jane Austen would be proud. Such a beautiful human being.
"Four A.M. Having just returned from an evening at the Golden Spheres, which despite the inconveniences of heat, noise and overcrowding, was not without its pleasures. Thankfully, there were no dogs and no children. The gowns were middling. There was a good deal of shouting and behavior verging on the profligate, however, people were very free with their compliments and I made several new acquaintances. Miss Lindsay Doran, of Mirage, wherever that might be, who is largely responsible for my presence here, an enchanting companion about whom too much good cannot be said. Mr. Ang Lee, of foreign extraction, who most unexpectedly appeared to understand me better than I understand myself. Mr. James Schamus, a copiously erudite gentleman, and Miss Kate Winslet, beautiful in both countenance and spirit. Mr. Pat Doyle, a composer and a Scot, who displayed the kind of wild behavior one has learnt to expect from that race. Mr. Mark Canton, an energetic person with a ready smile who, as I understand it, owes me a vast deal of money. Miss Lisa Henson -- a lovely girl, and Mr. Gareth Wigan -- a lovely boy. I attempted to converse with Mr. Sydney Pollack, but his charms and wisdom are so generally pleasing that it proved impossible to get within ten feet of him. The room was full of interesting activity until eleven P.M. when it emptied rather suddenly. The lateness of the hour is due therefore not to the dance, but to the waiting, in a long line for horseless vehicles of unconscionable size. The modern world has clearly done nothing for transport. P.S. Managed to avoid the hoyden Emily Tomkins who has purloined my creation and added things of her own. Nefarious creature." Thank you so much for this! :) I have a decent English but I still wasn't sure about a couple of things in the speech and this is a wonderful way to check. :)
This viewing was my discovery of this video but I fully intend to see it again. I have only seen her in one film, "Much Ado About Nothing", and I had NO idea how physically beautiful, intellectually brilliant, and full of old school British class that she is. I became instantly infatuated.
@@tsfbaf303 Actually there are different awards for different categories so if you want maybe write to the organisers of the Awards. I'm sure they will take you grlpe on board.
She deserved it. Thank god she won, so we could hear that amazing speech... she is incredible. Smart, beautiful, talented... I wish I could talk like that
For the 2014 Golden Globes as a presenter, she came out barefoot with a martini in one hand and her high heels in the other. She killed. I've always been madly in love with her.
Ha, ha, ha!!! Very witty indeed. Our fair Emma, so steeped in Shakespeare and schooled in the anthology of British period writers, has risen to the occasion splendidly! The next speaker is going to have a formidable time trying to outshine this speech.
Emma is beautiful, brilliant, and comes accross as a real personality and a human being (which probably 95% of the actors in that room can't claim for themselves) - one of my favourite performers ever! Also love all the stuff from her comedian days (with stephen fry, hugh laurie)... or: watch her in "stranger than fiction" with Will Ferrell - genius!
horseless carriage of unconsciounable size.....the modern world has clearly done nothing for transport........neferious creaure!!!!!!!!SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who was bothered by that lock of hair on her forehead that just kept falling in front of her eyes...? I just had this irresistible urge to walk up to her and pin it to the side so it stays there. (I know, I'm so trivial)
When a degree in English from the University of Cambridge comes in handy
or having read a lot of good books...
What a Brilliant woman. Both Jane and Emma!
What Emma Thompson did was a massively impressive feat to adapt a century old novel into a screenplay and so brilliantly 👍👍👍👍
Yess
She has to be the most English person ever. I love her. :p
except for her being half scottish
It doesn't matter! It is United Kingdom anyway!

She is so fucking beautiful what the actual hell. I can't even deal.
and look at her winning over all those men! I LOVE YOU EMMA!
You are beautiful too but I have to agree with "Johnny Savage" here... sexist pig.
It really IS the best speech ever. She's brilliant.
Just watched this movie tonight. She's so brilliant and beautiful. What a great role model.
"A composer and a Scot, who displayed the kind of wild behavior one has learned to expect from that race." OMG hahahahah :)
Laughed out loud
Very funny. These Brits know how easy is to impress the Americans.
Am I the only one who comes back and watches this frequently???
I just stumbled over this video and think I will return to it, too. How cool is Emma Thompson?!
Right!! She is amazing :')
Nope.
No you are not...

The Brits always add a touch of class. :D
Sam Smith!!! I love your song stay with me!!
@@PONDERATIONS24 I hope your kidding
Yeees, because all Brits are the Queen's nephews and nieces.
She was the only feminine nominee! it is so great she won
I actually think her adaptation is better than the original :)
What does gender matter, for fuck‘s sake stop focusing on gender, race or whatever, you’re dividing people needlessly

Emma Thompson has never looked more beautiful.
"We owe all our pride and all our joy to the genius of Jane Austen..." so true 😁
She deserved it. Thank god she won, so we could hear that amazing speech... she is incredible. Smart, beautiful, talented... I wish I could talk like that
I am very grateful she won this because otherwise we would probably never heard this intelligent and hilarious speech.
She's brilliant! They would never allow that length of a speech today!
I wonder how many of the audience actually understood what she said
What she said?
Jodie Foster and Jane Seymour looked amused.
She's one of the best! Love her a lot! I love her brilliant sense of humour.
Dear lord this woman is amazing! That speech was pure genius!
Oh, Emma, you crazy outstanding godess!!
For the 2014 Golden Globes as a presenter, she came out barefoot with a martini in one hand and her high heels in the other. She killed.
I've always been madly in love with her.
Thank you so much for the information, i was looking for the video, i didn't know it was 2014 golden globe👍👍👍
She's beautiful
This is so witty and original! :)
She must of known, and was so confident, that she was getting that Golden Globe. Who would write such a witty piece and have it go to waste?
Well, she did receive the GG for her script, so she must like writing. Confidence plays a major part though, you're right :)
This keeps making me weep with laughter.
I could listened to her all day and the hour would feel like seconds.
This woman was and is amazing!
IS
Best.Speech.Ever
She is smart, funny and gives a solid performance in her films.
Only smart people would understand the humour of this speech, so only Jodie Foster was laughing 😂
,Judy Foster is smart as f..k.
Jane Seymour seemed quite humoured and engaged with the Joke.
Everyone was laughing you spass
Love, love, love her. She's brilliant. Also, what a lineup! 1996 was a great year for film!
She is my absolute hero.

So clever I love her
loved her most in "Much ado about nothing"
i saw wit..and she is my fav,.
Just realized 1996 was 18 years ago WAT
Omg...that's so sad. I'm 18, and it didn't ring a bell that this has been THAT old. Damn...MY YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTH!!!! :'(
Yep. I know it. It don't seem that long ago. :\
Now 1996 was 21 years ago
22 now 😂😂
niki don 22
They let her have her way! Thanks goodness that they let her speak more than a few seconds before whisking her away...
She is pure brilliance, if it was the Oscars, though, they would've played her off the stage about half-way through.
Emma looked beautiful.
Shes so Beautiful.
she is amazing!
Emma ,I love you.
If English is not your first language and you understand Emma Thompson's speeches, then you can be proud of yourself

Omg Emma is amazing
Dang, she's tall!
ghhu
Is it just me or does she sort of sound like a younger Maggie Smith?
Like Dame Maggie Smith she speaks with a beautiful RP English accent, so it's not so strange that you have noticed the similarity :-)
Angelina Windham quite true!
This for me is tied with Alex lifeson’s rock hall induction speech, which you absolutely must watch
bella mujer y muy talentosa.
the golden spheres! ha! much better!
Brilliant
nowadays they wouldn't have let her talk so long the shut up music would start playing lol
A great actress . .
horseless carriage of unconsciounable size.....the modern world has clearly done nothing for transport........neferious creaure!!!!!!!!SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
¡It´s "Nefarious"! (Which is an euphemistic reference to a criminal activity or action).
Brilliance
love her accent
Can't help when spotted Faye Dunnaway who is so gorgeous here.
flawless emma
Am I the only one who was bothered by that lock of hair on her forehead that just kept falling in front of her eyes...? I just had this irresistible urge to walk up to her and pin it to the side so it stays there. (I know, I'm so trivial)
Haha same here!
haha same! i think it's because the mic was too low for her, and she had to keep leaning forward
It was parted too far down on the side to stay.
I think she thought it was annoying, too
Same here😂
