Emma Thompson was a perfect fit for the mother's day episode, she's such a class act.
why does SNL propagate this 90's has been , given a royal title from the English Saxe Coburg and Gotha dynasty aka the royal family of England ?
these people propagate this two tier society of thespians and monarchists, she is so so irrelevant just like the non elected monarchy she accepted her dame hood from vomit barf x 1000
what a load of BS cajones .... , the monarchy the royal dynasty the saxe coburg and gothas are not democracy a big Tsunami is coming in the following years so much is being suppressed on online and social media , Emma Thompson is not funny at all what a joke ...
@@onthemarketblog6444 Are you okay?
@@varma101 I think @Onthemarket Blog is either a troll or a bot
totally!!
Damn, talk about queens of comedic timing. what a flow!
Menstrual?
Mateo @Mateo Yeah, of course that's what I meant because they're women! What else could I possibly mean?? It had to be related to blood and vaginas and reproduction, right? Right? ...Guys?
@@emmabrown7871 You just said that because your name is also Emma!!
Lol 👍
(And Mateo is a 💩, but without the smile)....
Absolutely! Consumate professionals
"Hello, we are mothers." "Yes, winecountry hello!"
Great plug for your directorial debut in the Netflix movie "Wine Country", Amy!
This 60-year-old has brought more energy to the stage and the sketches than any of the permanent cast members or guest hosts in the past few seasons. She is a true professional, extremely funny and a committed actor. Emma Thompson thank you for existing.
Shahrukh Waheed
Agree.
Though Emma with Amy and Tina is just quality ❤️
There is such a difference when a comedy actress/actor is the host.
(For one, they actually learn their lines and don’t have to keep staring at the cue cards.. or at least don’t do it so damn obviously as the rest of the cast seem too.)
Plus Brits don’t take themselves seriously, and aren’t so saccharine/ ‘worthy’.
Emma Thompson is just Legend.
What is great is this is that this is just what she is like in real life... she is bonkers and delightful. (OK, I’m basing that on bumping into her her once in a shop in London, but she was super approachable and chatty (we were taking the piss out of the complexity and side effects of contouring)
Bloody wonderful woman. Wanted to say ‘Can we be mates, please?’ and swap numbers, but that would be weird... and I’m British, so
Wish I could be more like her.
But I guess she is the product of her upbringing (her parents are actors too, Eric Thompson and Phyllida Law,)
She went to Cambridge Uni, where she was in the Footlights thestre troupe.
All our great comic actors seem to have been in the theatre groups at Oxford or Cambridge.. High Laurie, Stephen Fry, Olivia Coleman, Peter Cook, Dougla Adams (wrote Hitchhikers guide).. the list is really telling.
Suggest if your kid wants to get into acting/comedy writing send them to Cambridge!!
She started out in standup and sketch comedy, and had a reputation as being WAY over the top and working blue enough to make her fellow comics uncomfortable, which she loved.
Also, the hottest sex scene ever filmed is her and Jeff Goldblum in THE TALL GUY.
Zero comedic talent though. Mostly lost of face stretching and overacting.
So wonderfully said. She is a gem.
melanieenmats No “thumbs up” on your comment because you are the only one with that opinion.
"just do it so i can buy rainbow stuff!"
😂😂❤
So much whiteness in this video.
This was one of the best SNL monologues I have ever seen. You can NEVER go wrong with Emma Thompson, EVER. And then you add Tina and Amy (plus Kenan)? No regular players just All-Stars. Gold.
Who would have thought that an SNL monologue could make me cry 😭 That ending was beautiful.
Clearly not a monologue.
Not usually into the sentimental endings, but considering it's three of the best women in entertainment pulling it off flawlessly, I'll make an exception.
Too much talent in one place, universe imploding.
WE ALL ABOUT TO GET TURNT AT LINDA'S😂😂😂😂😂
what a load of BS cajones .... , the monarchy the royal dynasty the saxe coburg and gothas are not democracy a big Tsunami is coming in the following years so much is being suppressed on online and social media , Emma Thompson is not funny at all what a joke ...
"Splendid is sort of our Aloha".... brilliant!
Genius!
When I am trying to copy English accent first word comes to mind is "Splendid" :)
I laughed so hard but I definitely think it’s our British sense of humour but this woman is a genius I’ve always loved Emma Thompson and her Witt and sense of humour it’s so uplifting it makes ya feel like you can achieve anything you want too this woman is my high xxx
Ann-marie Mills I agree I will watch anything she is in!
Emma Thompson is one of the MOST HILARIOUS live interview actors/performers to watch. She's HYSTERICALLY funny, as well as has a risque and bawdy sense of humor and is EXTREMELY entertaining. She is a JEWEL.
Emma Thompson is a goddess and I have worshiped her these last 20 years!
Stupid.
Fuck yes.
Aren't you a little to old to be alive
Just 20? Her best work came 30 years ago! Or are you 20?
Mary Rose Kent Same, she’s simply brilliant!
A British Comedy legend on SNL! You're welcome America!
James Davidson thank you
James Davidson Emma Thompson is not a comedian, she’s an actress.
She’s both! She started in comedy over here in the 80s.
James Davidson not really, being friends with Steven fry doesn’t make you a comedian. Kenneth Branagh isn’t a comedian either but they followed similar paths.
@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 No. she actually started in comedy. she was a member of the cambridge footlights comedy troupe with Fry and Laurie. her early career was all comedy. I know my british comedy history well lol Also she was married to Kenneth Branagh at one point!
I have literally waited for this for years. Emma, my hero
what a load of BS cajones .... , the monarchy the royal dynasty the saxe coburg and gothas are not democracy a big Tsunami is coming in the following years so much is being suppressed on online and social media , Emma Thompson is not funny at all what a joke ...
Funniest monologue in a while and they didn't even have to drag out the audience questions or musical number. Well done SNL.
i wasn't expecting the sentimental ending but i love it :')
SNL writers' Rule #1: When in doubt... bring out Tina and Amy...
While this is true, I wouldn't be surprised if Amy wanted to drop by to plug Wine Country, her new Netflix movie that she directed and stars in with a bunch of other awesome former SNL women. I'm going to watch it this week; it looks hilarious.
Alex G hey thanks for the heads-up on this! I love her, can’t wait to watch!
Yeah normally true, but I don’t think anyone was in doubt about Emma Thompson. She’s one of the funniest people in the world. Makes sense they’d want to include more star power in the Mother’s Day show though, since they have in prior years
W yeah if this was the wine country movie I just watched it and it was pretty good. Not quite as funny as bridesmaids but worth watching.
@@Alex-kf4zf The stars have all been in NYC this week doing press for the film, makes sense to see some here.
With all the Oscars and Golden Globes she's won I forget sometime that Emma Thompson started out as a comedian. Usually actors and actresses have the cast help them out in the monologue like questions from audience, cast members coming in and out. It's usually the professional comedians who deliver straight up monologue solo. Although she had Amy and Tina do it with her I'm sure she could have done this monologue solo as well. It was a solid trio
Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson were a great comedy trio, years later people forget all three well accomplished actors/writers/directors are sketch comedians at heart.
Great monologue. Tina Fey looks fantastic!
How the fuck is that a monologue if there are three speakers?
@@Miko_Jones why so angry? It’s just a comment. It’s a triologue. Feel Better? 😳
"Splendid is sort of our aloha..." Lol Emma Thomson is just amazing!!
Perfect host for mother's day show 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I love you sooo much Emma.

i STARTED TO CRY WHEN THEY GAVE THEIR KIDS A SHOUT OUT
"I love you all the same" "your sister is winning"
I may or may not have been tearing up by the end of this beautiful monologue. 😭
Emma Thompson is not like other moms, she’s a cool mom!
Seriously, she’s a lot of fun to watch! I would love her to play Gwendoline Christie’s mom, their personality and sense of humor reminds me of each other
Mean Girls reference?
I just want to sit in a room and have tea with Emma Thompson. My life would be complete!
Wow they made that incredibly difficult segment look easy. That’s real talent. Wow.
This monologue was splendid!
If you know what I mean. 😃😄😆😅
Aloha!
Well played
Thompson, Fey, and Poehler: The Trifecta!
E. Thompson- the British Meryl... YES!
I feel like not enough people remember and appreciate that Emma started in sketch comedy (see: winning the first ever Perrier award at Edinbrough, being one of the few women ever to star in her own sketch show) fucking queen
Wasn't she a member of Footlights?
@@dielaughing73 absolutely! thats what i was referencing. She won the Perrier with the footlights, along with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, and Tony Slattery etc.
That last bit was so wonderful
This was SPLENDID.☺️☺️☺️.
Leslie Knope still loves Joe Biden 😂
2:38 😄
My thoughts exactly 😂😂
I love those three they should do a show together!
Splendid is the British Aloha!
“I’m about to get turnt...at Linda’s” 🤣
Love them all three magnificent ,geniuses ,actress and moms !
I wish I could love this 10000x. two of my favorite people Amy Poehler and Tina fey!!! that was so sweet and just awesome that brighten my mood. Happy Mother’s Day 🌸
I return to this every time I need a dose of Auntie Energy. 🥰
Technically it’s Dame Emma Thompson, but we get it.
Most actors don't use their titles when they are working.
@@dndnenejeeehehehe4754 Yes those are indeed two people who have titles. Well done.
T Electronix
Don’t be a piss ant for one joke I made that you don’t like. Be better, jackass.
Last I checked, NYC is not in England.
@@dndnenejeeehehehe4754 You should adopt the approach you advocate, then, and....get over it.
I love Amy and Tina but Emma Thompson does not need any help doing anything, alright?
That was so sweet. Emma is so beautiful, elegant and regal.
Emma, Tina and Amy!!! All on one stage!! 🥰😍🥰😍🥰
*_You made me _**_#laugh_**_ for 4 minutes then _**_#tear_**_ up at _**_04:06_**_ - _**_04:15_*
*Thank you for this gift.*
*_The Mother’s Day show IS ALWAYS AWESOME!!!_*
Yup!
Amen buddy. That was great... then it was fantastic. I say this as a mum and a long-time fan of all three women. What an amazing ensemble!
Same!
leslie knope jumped out “he’s what I picture” lmao! this is amazing, they’re truly funny.
So true about the British splendid part.
"Its like our aloha" (how funny, i openly laughed at that riff)
they all look SO BADASS in those suits!!
So good! The timing and flow was amazing,
she embraced the gray and got hotter. great timing.
this is so beautiful!
AWW.. love my mother
and these 3 mothers
and all the mother !
3:31 FLASHBACKS to the MightyB
Omg Emma is an absolute legend Tina and Amy are loving being part of this. 3 absolute legends all together one cannot cope. We love you Emma , Tina and Amy please do a comedy together xxx
This was amazing! Emma Thompson is such a great actor, such energy, so funny, and looks stunning!
One of my favorite monologues!!!!
How the eff has it taken this long for the Funniest Woman Alive to host SNL? Why didn't this happen immediately after The Tall Guy?!
I think (!) she declined once back in the day, but she is so awesome now! I am just happy we got this.
Lovely. Three wonderfully talented people delivering something really warm and funny.
It's shocking she hasn't done SNL before now. She started out in standup and sketch comedy, in a group with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, and had a reputation for working blue enough to make her audience cringe, which she loved. She has been a truly topnotch edgy comic since well before some of the current crop of SNL players were born.
Also, the hottest, and funniest, sex scene ever filmed is her and Jeff Goldblum in THE TALL GUY.
Does it play over there..on Sunday?
I LOVE THOSE THREE WOMEN!!!
Sweet and funny Mother's Day talk.
A heartwarming experience. Emma Thompson - you`re great 🙏🙏🙏
When I say, "This monologue was good" I mean, "It was freakin fantastic!"
thank god for youtube because I couldn't get home in time and I was litrelly crying
BEST episode this season. every sketch had me dying
I love this woman 💜 she’s amazing in everything she does 💜💜
I doubled over laughing! And the end was great. Our kids drive us crazy but we couldn't live without them.
Emma Thompson is my spirit animal! LOVE HER!!!
This was both crazy and wonderful. And, of course, perfectly executed. Never.missed.a.beat
Oh my god the ending😭🖤 love them 3!!!
When Amy & Tina are together you know's a good time. Happy #Mothersday to all the mother's 🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹🌷🌸🌹
3 of the best female comedy writers in history:)
Emma Thompson is a god. I love her even when she's at her worst. xoxoxoox
Loved Ms. Thompson!
I run out of words every time I see Tina and Amy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww, the last part was SO sweet!!!❤❤❤
haha "JonasBrotherAreHereSoStickAroundWe'llBeRightBack!" Didn't pause to act like she's excited they're there or to give the audience a chance to applaud them. Love her
A funny beautiful classy act!!
Love her!!
Omg my heart just got shot with fun and cuteness
this was honestly the funniest mono of the whole season
I love her. She’s brilliant
I’m adding “splendid” to my vocabulary whenever I can’t find the words to say or don’t want to offend with the truth.
i was watching this in a little hotel room with my mom, so hoping a wine country lady would make a cameo.
and, when amy and tina just walked out, i instinctively bloody murder screamed so loud that someone came and knocked on the door to make sure everything was okay. i love them so much.
Wow the ending was really sweet ❤
This is so awesome having her on !
“I’m about to get turnt at Linda’s”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
the ending made me literally cryyyy
All I was waiting for💗
they couldn't have got a more epic trio
Straight up BRILLIANT!!
Professor Trelawney!!
that last line made me cry
I love, love, LOVE Emma Thompson!! Smart as a whip, loving, generous, hilarious, a brilliant actor, an accomplished writer and goofy & cooky. I bet she's a wonderful mom, as well.
For those claiming she needed Tina and Amy to join her on stage? Umm, say what, now!? Tina and Amy are my girls, but Emma is a frigging legend. She's from the Cambrigde Footlights and a multi-award winning boss, baby!
For those who don't know, the Cambridge Footlights is arguably the most revered of the improv clubs. It was founded in 1883 and has as past members some of the funniest and most talented comedians, actors and writers ever to grace the industry.
Along with Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, there's John Cleese (Monty Python), Eric Idle (Monty Python), Graham Chapman (Monty Python), Sue Perkins, David Mitchell (Mitchell and Web), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Sandi Toksvig, Dav Stevens (Legion, Downton Abbey), John Oliver (The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight), Miriam Margolyes, and Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novel series).
Emma Thompson needed no one to help her make her monologue funnier. With her experience and talent in acting and writing, she could run circles around every writer and comedian connected to SNL. Emma wrote the screenplays for Sense & Sensibility (1995, winner of the Oscar and the BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay), Wit, Nanny McPhee, Nanny McPhee Returns, Effie Gray, and Bridget Jones's Baby, among others. She's also contributed to Pride & Prejudice and Love, Actually. If writers need to strengthen their scripts, they turn to Emma Thompson.
I'm sure she enjoyed having Tine and Amy with her on stage, but she bloody well didn't need them.
This is a dream come true for me: Emma, Tina and Amy in SNL stage ❤❤❤
I love Emma so much ❤❤ and Tina Fey 😍😍 ugh
"I'm about to get turnt at Linda's."
Loved this so much!,
Awwww❤️ the ending
That last part was great. So sweet.
Obsessed! Brilliant! Splendiiiiiiid 🤩🤩🤩
