I just found my On Target set after 50 years! It is in really good shape, the planes were well made. Never saw the Joy Rider before. Still think the styling of the planes was top notch.
I hope this video helped. I never used these items to test them or run the Hot Birds down the line. I only checked the boxes to make sure the contents were there.
I don't think these planes/sets were out until 1970-71. The Copyright might be 1969 but that is not the year of release. In many cases it is the following year.
jarc02 . Yes well Im 59 years old now and my Wife says I’m loosing my memory. I had a box of 1968 Hot Wheels unto about 10 years ago/ gave them away . I play guitar now . I had a 1968 Camaro SS back in 1980 , mint condition. Take Care Thank You. Mississauga Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Never had interest in this TOY when I was a kid....,I guess I was too busy with Hot Wheel Sizzlers... Even as an adult I've seen this thing at TOY shows in mint conditions in boxes Still couldn't bring myself to buy them...They didn't have motors nor fly by themselves ... I guess that's why I never liked them..
My parents did not believe in toys that required batteries so never had Sizzlers. But I always loved cars so I had Hot Wheels and gravity sets. I simply do not remember these Hot Birds in our local stores. I loved Sci-Fi so I am surprised these did not catch on with me as a kid because the planes are really futuristic looking. As an adult I saw these and picked them up on eBay because they were from the Reline era and were less expensive than the Redline cars. I thought they were unique and were not in the market long. So, I am happy I have them now. Thanks for watching the video and commenting.

FANTASTIC!
As a kid around 1970 I had the Hot Bird set with the lighted control tower. Green yellow red lights to tell you if you were low high or on track.
COOL!
I have a Red Hot Bird like the blue one you showed. Was going to show my son how it works, but couldn't find a video of it.
