    I don’t like how… non-special the actual units are treated. They’re indistinguishable from the mercenaries you can recruit except that you get them for free, they receive rapport buffs, and they are slightly different from the base model. They don’t receive any exclusive skills or anything like that, and because of the customization with the mercenaries, in some cases the mercs CAN ACTUALLY BE BETTER than your named units.
    This feels like an oversight, because maybe I’ve just got Fire Emblem brain rot, but I’m under the impression that mercs are there to patch up holes in the party, not outright replace actual characters.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  10 місяців тому +4

      Thats actually one of the things I like. I want to be able to replace named characters with recruits. I always do that in games where it will let me. Like in FF Tactics I never used a named character outside of Ramza. Overall I can understand why you dislike that though such as Bruno being streight up worse than the first gladiator you can make yourself

    • @twigz3214
      @twigz3214 10 місяців тому +5

      I don’t mind that mercs can be better, but I wish some characters were not given growths that seem actively bad. Selvie the Shaman for example has the growth rate that increases hit, but all of her skills have true hit and can’t miss. Same goes for Chloe who has 2 defensive growths but wants to be in the backline.

    • @denysvision
      @denysvision 10 місяців тому +1

      @@twigz3214 you know you can buy a mirror from the merchant right? with the mirror you change chcnage the name character's growths and appearance, and Selvie is a debuffer so she does not need true hit because she does not hit at all

      @twigz3214 10 місяців тому +1

      @@denysvision Yep but there’s currently only 1 in the game (technically 2 since you get one after the Scarlet chapter, but we can’t use it yet). Also I said Selvie’s skills have true hit, if you look at the Shaman skills it says the hit on all of them is true, so her having a growth rate that buffs accuracy feels bad. If the hit rate on them wasn’t true they would need to roll a hit rate.

      I think they do it on purpose. It's different than other similar RPGs, but I think the story units, barring unique classes like Alain the Lord, are there to be introductions to classes and a connection to the story. That way, players not looking for more depth will have a still-decent unit, and industrious players will have a choice on how to spend their honor.
      It would suck if mercs were somewhat useless, but they are actually a viable choice over more unit slots since most missions only start you with 3 valor, and deploying units later than the beginning is kinda useless if you are the aforementioned industrious player (witch units are kind of an exception but would you really spend that valor on deploying and teleporting in instead of using cavalry charge or an arrow barrage or something? The answer is yes I think, especially for speed runs but eh idk yet I've only gotten to play like 15 hours including in-menu and story-sequence time), so you really only need to pump honor into 3 or 4 units (in the demo, since I believe the highest starting valor is 4, but actual numbers for some forms of play will likely be at least 1 lower since the gryphon's speed buff is so good for gryphon and cavalry units and you'll likely want to pop that one immediately)
      Ironically it's kinda like most of the story units are patching the holes in optimal play. It doesn't ruin the casual experience so I only see it as a positive. For all I know farming rapport will be huge and I'm super wrong, IDK. It is pretty cheap to do in a Tavern after all.

    my problem with the battle preview is I have had a time or 2 when I hover over a battle and the preview looks really good so I tell a group to do that battle
    then as they are walking other battles take place or whatever, so that when that battle does happen the rng is rerolled and my group gets defeated
    that turns frustrating because im just like "but you said it would turn out good!!"

    8:10 oh but you can equip items equipped by other characters! Just not in battle.
    In all seriousness, this limit is only there on the preview screen. You can swap items between characters at any point during a stage as long as it isn't the preview screen right before a battle. Terrible error message-I know.
    Idk maybe I'm stupid, haven't tested it to make sure it isn't some other mechanic that I crossed wires with.

    • @Ouvii
      @Ouvii 10 місяців тому +1

      @@purplatypus7405 I suppose I haven't given that aspect a lot of thought. It always struck me as encouraging proactivity, but the existence of a pause button kinda does make it weird? You can always just pause before the engagement and it costs nothing so why is there a difference?
      The only difference is that you can clear up uncertainty due to assists at that moment only. Without assists there is no difference.
      This problem also applies to Valor skills since you can't use them at the moment of engagement either.
      I'm only an armchair game designer so I can't really come up with a justification for it other than "git gud". (To be clear, the quotes contain sarcasm).

      That ruins the entire point of the tactical part of the game, you are required to program these AIs into doing the things you want, game would be 10 times easier than it already was (and very generic) if it just played like a run of the mill team based jrpg

      It's #boring because you do not properly participate in the battles, you sit there and select and watch your AI do the work based on your stats and equipment lol how dumb, your being spoon fed your fake addiction to the game and you know it.

    • @kskr8610
      @kskr8610 10 місяців тому

      @@deusvlad2.083 bro the strategy comes from tailoring what the AI does, if you leave the AI on default most of the time you get fucked over. It's not a stat-based game at ALL you can beat level 40 enemies with a level 25 team if you are tactical with it. Equipment in this game mostly have special effects instead of just being stat sticks. There's a HUGE difference between actually spending time minmaxing combos and just put the highest stat units together. This is similar to Gambit but do remember that here you are minmaxing like 50 characters at the same time by the end of the game.
      The game is indeed too easy but it is a result of the devs being too lenient on external non-strategy resources like being easily overlevelled, giving you way better items than the enemies, valor skills dealing way too much damage etc, it's not a consequence of this gameplay system. Ask anyone who called this too easy and I guarantee there are a few items and valor skills all of them spam the hell out of. I can't fault them for doing it but I myself dropped them altogether and had a much more tactical experience.

    As a fan of Ogre Battle 64, and as the game's developer said in its announcement trailer, "...the rebirth of the tatics rpg game". I have to confess that I was very disappointed by the fact that we could see the outcome of the fight before it even happened. I know it's a mechanic of this type of game, but it's very tedious to play like this. The game becomes just you managing your units and sending them to fight against the units that you know will win. • @maycklover2893
      @maycklover2893 10 місяців тому +2

      @@denysvision It's not reckless, you need to assemble your unit and prepare it well, we have a class system that has advantages and disadvantages, you could simply look at the enemy troops and analyze which of your units would be best to face them (e.g. I see the enemy unit with some tanks, I'm going to send my unit that has a warrior to deal with him...), this way you made a conscious choice and if you win this clash, it was entirely due to you and your knowledge of the game . When the game boils down to just "clicking on your unit and then clicking on the other enemies and checking which one you kill or die" makes the game so easy, the battle is something so trivial that it's not even worth watching (it even has a skip button the animation) which makes me very sad because the art in this game is so beautiful and the animations are well done. =/

    I don't really mind the equipment. Though it would probably be better to just stop players from changing equipment while on the battle screen. Especially when you combine this point with how the battle forecast works.
    Personally I'm more annoyed with some of the controls around strategy though. I much prefer switching that up between battles.
    I agree with your #1 point though. You can just look at the battle forecast, and based on that you can(for example) move your dodge tank around. It's pretty lame. By swapping things around a bit, you can also easily derive who is taking what damage, so you can make very specific changes to win battles.
    It also takes away any and all suspense from the actual battle animations.
    They should really change the forecast to a range of possibilities and/or calculate probabilities in battle, instead of when you hover you mouse over a unit. Though maybe that takes too much cpu power, or maybe the ranges are too big? I don't know. It's just kind of weird how they did it.

    here is some things i disagree with your list
    1. story: so far is not the best but again this is jsut the demo, i'm sure things would get a turning point once we advance trewout the story, and the rapport conversations gives the character a lot of personality, so on that regard i dismiss your point of the story been boring, the story is great, yes is Clicheic but it works non or else with the artstyle, so il give it a pass, besides i vannillaware we are talking here
    2. the report system, OMG do i disagree you with this take SOOO MUCH, the report system is fantastic because doing so not only gives you boost on the team comp stats but also the conversations witch rewards you with Valor AND give some characterization with your characters, is still worth doing them, yes it gives you 2 valor but is better than doing battles all the time. i don't understand of why it should be removed or changed? again is still well put, i think is just you who is not fan of it
    3. the game is to easy? nah i think the first stage would not be difficult untill later one, so far is still in the demo, so you would expect harder stages with tons of enemies in the full game, or is easy for you because people who is used to hard difficulty would say that is to easy, and maybe the game is not for everyone? and it seems that tons of people do love the gameplay a lot
    4. can't swap equipment at times if other character wearing? why not just buy 2 of the same equipment? this way you can swap the items without the need to take it from other charactersy
    5. bad RNG? sorry but this is pretty nick piking because not eveyrone wants to watch how the battle continues because knowing exactly how the fight would go and skip is saves a lot of time for thoes who have less time to play the game, again you have to think from the other players perspective in order to see why is implemented that way

      2. I like character growth both in terms of stats and personality however I dont like the way rapport systems are implemented typically. Having to give gifts or fight with an ally in combat to get a number to go up I dont find fun or engaging. For those that enjoy it I have no issue its just not my ideal.
      3. I love the gameplay and dont think the game is to easy I am nervous the difficulty wont keep up with the awesome team building the game allows. Time will tell
      4. most equipment has 1 in stock plus I dont want so spend twice as much money to have two of each equipment. they allow swapping they just put weird restrictions on it that add an unneeded annoyance.
      5. Knowing how a fight will go can be good but being able to control and force reroll fight RNG means you can meta game doing easier fights until your units are able to roll good RNG on a hard fight. I think this might incentivize weird game play for players on higher difficulties. I also dont find the time saving argument strong as it wouldnt remove your ability to skip fights. Its not the worst system ever it just has a bit to much power in it with you being able to force good rng potentially by messing with knobs.

      Gameplay? What gameplay? You just move units into other units and click battle..... Also quite disgusting how much you're defending this trash game

    my biggest issue is the story... well the combat itself just "simplistic of brown dust's combat" nothing special, so combining with big EEWW story, yeah never touch it again

    This game is shit, it's like the developers didn't want to let you do anything, all you do is have groups run them into other groups and make sure you have the right people and it plays out for you..... Trash this game is terrible and should be 20$

    As much as I enjoy most of your videos I have to take issue with this one. A lot of your complaints outside of story are completely unfounded. You been playing the demo multiple times so of course the game's going to be easier. Strategy RPGs have always had a predictive outcome. There's not too many RPGs where you can unequipped and re-equipped already equipped characters. . again I'll give you story cuz that's more personal taste but everything else is just a standard strategy RPG mechanic

      I disagree they are unfounded. I have played the demo maybe 17 hours and my views are founded on that. Of course its a limited view as its all based on the demo but that should go without saying.

    I hate how the characters feet look like. Everything else is top tier amazing art but then you see their feet and want to cry. And in the map the hero hair is light, and in game he is blue haired, and even mentioned to be one...
    Splitting hairs? Hell yea!

    i personally liked the story so far i will never understand people who bass the story in these types of games
    wdit:i also hate that this guy skips everything and i feel he is one of those people that plays the game once and never touches it

      The story is probably fine but when you just played Yakuza Infinite Wealth it just didnt have a chance imo.
      I skip everything Ive seen before as I think this is on my third demo play through. However once I beat the game I likely will not play it again this is partially due to lack of interest but also new games come out to play and cover.
