Yes, Vance was a marine and was both in Iraq and Afghanistan. What he doesn’t talk about much is that he was a correspondent, a reporter. In Nam these guys were called paper pushers and generally held in contempt by those of us out in bush. Think of Joker in Full Medal Jacket!
Just Iraq and we had comcam dudes with us in Afghan and Syria and they were treated with respect. Now that has nothing to do with JD Vance but I wanted to make that clear because we bonded with our dudes a good bit.

The fact that he is a veteran doesn’t automatically qualify him for such position nor does he get my vote automatically. As a veteran, I am concerned about issues involving our community. So my vote goes to the one whose policies have the wellbeing of veterans. With that said, I have to do some research.

I was a part of special operations AFSOC to be exact and some of the brightest and bravest men and women that I have ever served with. Don't come home the same.

Its great that we have a Marine Corps vet running as VP, but whats not so great is his partner whom is a five time draft dodger during the Vietnam war, and to make it worse has called our fallen brothers losers and suckers.

He should be commended for his service as all Vets should but military service is only one part of his life. The Republican platform he supports is closely tied to the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025 which wants to reduce VA benefits. Mr. Vance's views on Ukraine and NATO are naive and will hurt our national security. As a Navy veteran I was very disappointed and saddened by retired Navy Commander Randy "Duke" Cunningham, the only Navy ace from the Vietnam war, when he admitted to taking bribes and tax evasion while serving as a US Congressman. Military service doesn't give us a free pass on how we behave. Keep the faith!

Most likely is that Vance is just like Trump in that everything he does is to get attention and praise from the largest audience he can. So of course he would flip sides when one of the current primary candidates for President asks him to be VP.
I’ve love to know if he partakes in VA Healthcare. Because if he does, that would be a big win in our favor as veterans. Theoretically he could make a difference there for the better. But also, if he doesn’t know from experience, he won’t know the true VA now.

I have been out for 30 years and don’t have a law degree from Yale and neither does my wife and I have never used the VHA or VBA for anything. Mainly because I was ignorant about it and had corporate insurance. I am a Multiple time Presumptive cancer survivor.
After further reading about him he runs around with tech billionaires. They play a different game in healthcare and share their game with the people who make them money. VIP doctors, private jets to best specialist anywhere in the world, you stay in the hospital wing with your friends name on it. I would be absolutely shocked if he has ever talked to anyone at the VA either, which would be looked as inferior treatment than what he has access to. He is a very intelligent man and based on him accepting the nomination from Trump he is very self serving.

I don't count myself as "airwing" though, because I was ground radio repair and did absolutely nothing with planes/helicopters, except get hearing loss and raging tinnitus from Harriers practicing vertical landing and takeoff constantly by our shop.
Apparently he was a marine raider who saw lots of action in the hills of Afghanistan but it’s all classified and he can’t talk about it.👀

I was a PR in the Navy and trained with Marine Riggers during the Vietnam years. Nothing but tough guys and they had my respect. We had to do physical training and jump out of a plane just to get the feeling of an actual parachute experience. It's easy to make fun of the air wing until you are under fire and need air support. They are there to help save you. How could anyone not respect what the choppers do in combat? That is scary stuff especially during Vietnam.

@@Aspen5.7 Nobody is going to claim that mess but that doesn't mean he won't implement portions of it. When he took office the first time he implemented 2/3 of the Heritage Foundation's agenda items.
@@Aspen5.7 Trump has openly praised the head of the Heritage foundation, and said that their suggested policies were previously and WILL BE put forth in his term. Many members of his own team are ON the Heritage foundation (one being a spokeswoman FOR Project 2025). He claimed he didn't know what it was, so unless he is a complete moron that doesn't pay attention to anything his own people are part of or out of touch with the major policy guiding group for the last 4 decades or so, then well he is once again lying about something.
As for Vance he seems further "right wing" than Trump (though being honest Trump is "right wing" because its what is getting him attention and praise right now) and certainly is far more religiously zealous outside of just the saying things to please that crowd. Though they both kinda seem similar in the constantly doing whatever they can for the spotlight sense and smiling to most people's faces then stabbing them in the back or vice versa.

I said it to someone else, but there are only a couple reasons people do that (besides marriage), either they want attention OR they are trying to hide something from their past.
Edit: I saw a previous comment you made about divorced PARENTS, that makes a little more sense... though the taking the wife's name still feels odd to me there.

Not that I think that there would be anything afoul since he decided to go into politics just recently and I tend to believe Marines retain the Corps ethos for at least a few years after separating from the service. As for his time in the Corps, I will give respect for completing boot camp - what followed well, It was always discussed that it is much easier to become an NCO while Swinging w/the Wing.

I was also a Marine Combat Correspondent! Very small MOS. At the time there were only about 200 of us. I served for 91 to 2003. While I was at Lejeune I was attached to division. I’m assuming him being at the wing he was at Cherry Point or New River. I can’t say that I know him or the kind of Marine he was. Semper Fi and Roll Tide.
