Excellent buy. That's a good looking train.
That is a very nice set of coaches! Congrats on the great find!
That's a great looking Train Dave.
Great addition to the collection.
They have the longer knuckle couplers for about $5 a pair but that is almost what you paid for the cars if you install all of them, crazy ant it. You only need one long coupler as you know surely someone has one for you and you can drop the transition car, you are set. You did get a bargain, and they are same dye lot plus perfect with the locomotive. Great video and running session, Jersey Bill. P.S. Tell CO&RK that Corky likes him, LOL.
That Looks Cool 👍👍👍👍.
Very nice coaches Dave absolute bargain.
Looks fantastic Dave
Great price for 4 coaches
Nothing wrong with a short passenger train. I think they were called Pocket Trains. Moving passengers, mail, and produce. Makes sense to me.
Looks awesome Dave. I definitely love Great Northern. 😊
Yes, I saw that you got a set the same time as me.
Nice set of coaches, the full train looks great dude. Yeah, B unit and observation coach is required ;)
Very nice, Dave. And more is always better, right?
Very nice set. IHC and AHM passenger cars are all the same Rivarossi molds, so you could probably find more cars and parts to upgrade them.
Beautiful cars and a great find. I have the Empire Builder in that paint scheme in Kato n-scale.
IHC does/used to sell metal replacement metal wheels for these cars - they may be scale 28” diameter. Regarding couplers, McHenry makes knuckle couplers that snap into the truck- easier than doing a Kadee conversion. While not a fan of McHenry’s on locomotives & freight cars, these are “good enough”!
There are a few vendors on eBay that have metal wheels that fit. 31" will fit without modifications to the trucks (brake shoe removal). Any wheel larger will require truck mods.
I checked - IHC is out of Texas-they sell metal wheels for both streamline and heavy weight cars- they are 31” scale.
I was going to mention the observation car, but you already mentioned it. There would also be a sleeper car along with the dining car to round out the set. Also, as someone else mentioned, the wheels are not a standard size. So, you will have to find the ones on Ebay that match for IHC/Rivarossi cars. I'm not sure the reason Rivarossi went with an odd size since the wheels on most standard passenger cars should be the 33" wheels and not the 31" wheels.
Beautiful. Enjoy! Also, let us know how you add weights to the cars. Thanks for sharing.
I bought a couple boxes of car tire weights with self adhesive pads. Different weights. Very easy to install.
I love rivarossi passenger cars.
I have a fair selection of "heavyweights" or the 1920s all steel coaches with three axels in both CN and CP. I also have a Union Pacific overland gray Pullman Light weight (like these ones in the video). Mine were bought with metal wheels already on them so didnt have to change them. But I have heard converting them to metal is well worth it. Rivarossis are generally a very cheap way of getting nice trains together and most people oftend sell them in sets. I converted my heavyweights with the Kadee 505 coupler kit for 6 wheel trucks.
They make one as well for the 4 wheel trucks thats the same concept. If you ever want tips on installing them I have a very simple and quick way of putting them on. They are well worth it, my cars run flawlessly.
Gorgeous train mate!
If you have a video then that would be great. Or just email me scottrodsgarage@gmail.com Thanks.
nice Dave
wow, i paid 12 bucks for mine in the 70s
Very nice. Nothing wrong with wanting to make the train longer. Thanks for sharing.
👍😉
Dave, what did you do to the decoder? Lol. Hope you can get the Mars Light reset and working.
New cars look good, you should also look for sleeper, dinner cars for the consist, the Great Northern run from Chicago IL to Spokane WA ran up to 15 cars, but the consist was separated in Spokane one set of cars went on to Seattle and another set went down to Portlan OR. From Seattle it went on to Vancouver BC.
I'm not sure what happened, but I had to reset the decoder, and lost all the fancy functions you had. Were they downloaded?
Rivarossi cars aren't bad in terms of visuals, but yes, tend to suffer weight issues. The "pizza cutter" plastic wheels often have awful performance as well, but I've heard that 30" wheels from Roll-Tru (which can be purchased from eBay) fit the trucks comfortably while offering far better tracking. 33" wheels from anyone else tend to grind against the brake shoes and as such create absurdly high drag.
Nice acquisition, congrats.
I hope you know which car goes into which box, because the contents are not written on the boxes. Only 4 digits with a backwards slash and then another number. Learned that the hard way with my Rivarossi NY Central passenger cars. 😆
Boxes are in the garbage, lol.
Nice passenger cars. Nice to add another different colour to the tracks beside yellow ,blue ,green and silver. I'm surprised they only have 4 wheels per bogie and not 6. The CN coaches have 6 wheels I think. Enjoy!
They are quite short, so 3 axles wouldn't look right.
Curiousity question: I see your locos on the shelves. Where do you keep the cars?
I have another room with racks of totes. Not all my locos are on the shelves, just the favourites.
Don’t cha have a Great Northern Steam Engine?
I don’t think so
You gonna Get one One Day?
