This is the short wheelbase Unimog, more like what German councils use for road side mowing and maintenance. The medium wheelbase is the preferred Army model and the Australian Army even had some 6 X 6 Unimog recovery tow trucks and dual cab driver instruction vehicles/ crew vehicles. Great trucks go anywhere, can even ford 1.2 m or 4 ft of water with the only preparation being turning on the 4 X 4 selector switch.
My dream is to retire before I'm too old to enjoy it, grab a good condition Unimog and slap an overland camper on it and go anywhere in the Americas I want to go. The short wheelbase on this one is of limited use. Not sure why Arnie wants one if he is in the city most of the time. They top out around 58mph iirc, without some mods. They get around 11mpg, so he isn't exactly satiating the left with his economy.
Unimogs are not “army” vehicles. The first Unimog was designed for agricultural use, with a PTO for farm implements. The Toyota Pickups in the Middle East are more army vehicles than the Unimog.
Daimler sells most unimogs to the armed forces of multiple countries. While yes, it was first designed as an agricultural vehicle it was sold for army purposes shortly after being taken over by Daimler. As early as 1955 the Unimog 404S was sold in big numbers (>50,000) to Germany's and France's militaries. Even the G-Class (G-Wagon) was purely developed for the military of then Persia first.

I thought it was about similar. The H2 ~ 10mpg +/-10%, don't know about the MK1. I've heard the Unimog's done for overlanding (my interest) get about the same.

Australian Army has used Mogs for years...very capable and versatile vehicles. Also uses Land Rover Defenders.

@@minecrafter023 yes, the unimog was widely used in the militaries, but it still is primarily a heavy multipurpose truck
they were made to compete against agricultural tractors and backhoe military applications came later
He upgraded from the Hummer :))))
Nice it beeps when it goes backwards. Just in case.
Wow!! Nice Unimog, the guy on the vespa is fearless warrior:,-)
Just the right truck for terminator.!! 😅

That unimog burns at least 1/3 less than a h1 Hummer . The new desiel ones are very fuel efficient but expensive to fix when kaput .
