- It's that time of year. Powdery mildew, Mosaic virus, rust, wilt and other diseases creep into our organic garden when we least expect it. There are many ways to try and prevent it, which I cover in this video... but there are also many home remedies that work. Most of which you probably already have laying around the house.

Wow, even if You are in moving mode, You do new videos. Highly impressive and that shows how important Your followers are for You! Respect! :)
I've used Amway's APSA 80 for a surfactant, (and other garden applications) for 35 years now.
Many waxy leaf surfaces do need extra help for efficient coatings. My grandparents actually used shavings of Fels-Naptha soap bars.
Good video!
I wish you were moving next door to me!
I'm always trying to solve gardening challenges.
😎🌱🌿🍅
Fennel seed is a great breath freshener & fennel seed tea settles my stomach when it is upset.
Hi just a BIG THANK YOU for all your help in your videos ALL THE VERY BEST IN YOUR NEW HOME and GARDEN
I had I think verticillium wilt on some tomatoes this past summer which destroyed the plants overnight this past year. Everything I plant in the spring is everything you mentioned so rotating won’t even work...so no garden for me for 4 years..? I much prefer fall and winter gardening in Louisiana 😉 Thanks for all the info.. love your channel👍🏼
I noticed powdery mildew after I picked my peas this year. Exploded during heat wave. pulled the plants. watching the beans hoping it didn't jump to them since they were in same bed.
There are several flowers that are lime green, but the buds are normal... not sure if it's a virus or not. 🐞 My apple tree may have rust. I pruned some and sprayed copper on the leaves... too many to deal with, but the whole tree is not impacted, yet.
I did an aspirin drench on my tomatoes 2 weeks ago. Planning to spray them and my cukes, zukes, & pumpkins alternating with baking soda and neem oil to prevent the powdery mildew.
Apple trees are prone to rust. You dud the right thing.
Helpful video with actual recipes for spraying solutions - thank you! Your nice garden makes me smile. 😊
Thank you! I recently followed your suggestion to use alliums to prevent aphids and whitefly. I’ve draped my tomato plants and rose bushes with cuttings from my green onions and chive plants. It really seems to work! The few white flies and aphids that were on my plants, early on, disappeared. They haven’t returned. 🌻🐝😊
What do you mean by draped with cuttings?
I've been thinking about doing this too. Will give it a try!
With the higher humidity we've had the past couple weeks in SoCal came the powdery mildew on the squash plants, especially the winter and pumpkin varieties. PS - I like Next Level Homestead better, because family is part of a 'home'stead...and it's shorter.
I bought some commercial 3- fungal and bug spray for plants. Sprayed it like the directions said but I applied mines late evening. 2 days later alot of the leaves of my melon plants have damage to the leaves all over the plant. The plant is still alive and growing well and I will not be using that product anymore. I will try and be more organic and use ur advise more often. Thank you for every video u put out I continue to learn more each time.
Can't wait to see the garden in your new house!
Tonight's dinner courtesy of my learning from Brian over the past 18 months. Apples from the orchard for our cobbler, onions and potatoes from raised beds, tomatoes, Basel and zucchini for our salad from raised beds. Nothing like home grown and fresh! Thank you Brian for the information and inspiration.
Love that!
This is my first full Summer garden. My summer squash just started showing a hairy-looking black fungus. I also discovered and hopefully destroyed a white fly infestation on them. I picked them off and drowned them in soapy water, then sprayed the plants with neem oil.
I'm fighting a few problems. Japanese beatles and powdery mildew
Use beetle pheromone traps for the adults and use milky spore on any turf for the larvae. Knock the beetles into a bucket of soapy water in the cool early morning hours while they are still lethargic.
Echols2009 And use the milk remedy for your powdery mildew. It works wonders!!! Good luck 🍀🌷😁
I think I've had rust in zinnias and fig leaves but I haven't seen raised dots. Of course I've had powdery mildew but not too much, and now that I've seen your example I've probably had some mosaic virus. I've used commercial organic fungicides from places like Gardens Alive and Territorial Seeds.
Your garden looks beautiful & lush; & I can imagine that the photos for your book will be perfect. Wow! You care for your garden, look for a new home, write a book, & still make time for a gardening video. You are amazing. I’m not sure if I have any of those diseases present in my garden, though my sweet pepper plant leaves look a little strange. Might be mosaic? However, the leaves on my cherry tomato plant are turning yellow & one leaf even has some bright orange color. The yellowing is slowly migrating up the plant. I removed the lower leaves. I have not had this issue before so I don’t know what to do. If you have time, please help? It would be much appreciated. Thank you for sharing. I have learned so much. Take care with moving. Blessings all round.
Verticillium wilt is almost up there with BT on the pronunciation throne
Yes it is!
Your garden looks great I’m sure you will get fab photos for the book! Helpful video ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Thanks Fiona. I hope so!
My pepper plants are loaded with peppers but the leaves are turning yellow and falling off. Can’t seem to figure out why
I’m in Adelaide, South Australia. Our climate is Mediterranean like California. From time to time I get black aphids on my onions, down low on the leaves. So, alliums don’t seem to repel that type of aphid. Also, my dill and fennel are often infested by green aphids, particularly when they are young or begin to flower or set seed. Great videos.
As a newer gardener I find it hard to identify what the issues are .
I research pics , think I know what’s affecting my plants , treat as recommended and no improvement . I’m down to a guessing game and treating for multiple things as I have no clue .
I thought I had tomato blight , I thought I had Downey Mildew on cucumber plants , I saw tons of earwigs , treating and treating . I did try aspirin spay a couple times earlier on to help the immune response but then we had so much rain for days then a day of sun then rain . I hope your book will have pics of diseases and stages of diseases as well as the creepy things that attack our plants and treatments 😁
I used the mouth wash and water last year on my zucchini and it worked great at getting rid of powdery mildew. It really saved my plants until frost.
Last year we loss around 80 tomato plants to the Tobacco Mosaic Virus, this year we loss about he same, We live in Florida and have had a lot of rain this Spring thur July. All this rain caused loads of bugs and wet leaves. and planters full of water causing tomatoes to split open and riot at the stem. I think we are done with tomatoes for a while, Our 60 okra plants have really been doing well for us as we pick about 25 to 30 per day, due to all the rain we now have a few plant showing signs of powdery mildew. Our pepper have been so so. At this point we are not sure what we will this autumn, We may take a break and clean everything out start over.
My Boston Vegetable GardenI'd like to thank you for your tutorials, advise and encouragements. I have started a container garden on a part of my driveway, this is my first year.
My tomato plants appear to have Septoria leaf spot. I pruned the affected leaves (now I can actually see my tomatoes!) Tomorrow, I'll spray that baking soda formula you mentioned on the remaining leaves and stems.
I have two melon varieties that have mosaic virus. The fruit was just about ripe though so I’ve not treated for it. No powdery mildew (yet) this year, I use Neem oil to control it and it works pretty well. I try to only plant VF resistant plants especially tomatoes and I’ve never had an infestation. Thanks for the informative video. Good one.
awesome and informative as always!
I have been cutting off the leaves on my zucchini plants when I notice powder spots. This is helping keep it under control.
Great content....thanx 👍🏼
This was so helpful--thank you!
Have every kind of fungal disease. Feeling beat, all my beautiful tomatoes, I think it is in the soil.i also think it is everywhere in the garden. This time I added compost from a nursery, that didn't help, rather exacerbated the issue. I also did the aspirin hack, the weather is not helping, rains continuously and then goes to extreme heat next day.
Same here in NW CT😕. I’m not sure if it Blight or what, but it is on what’s left of my tomatoes, my raspberries, choke cherry trees, and an azalea. It’s heartbreaking as I can’t even treat it as we’ve had rain nearly every day in July.
For Powdery Mildew I used 25% coffee cream (10%M.F.) and 75% water, it worked like a charm. I wonder if it’s also the Lactobacillus…. Good microbes outcompete bad ones.
Is the light cream or half and half. I don’t really understand
@@cdanerg9416 in Canada where I live we have creamer in 5%, 10%, 30% and 35%. The ones I used had 10% milk fat. That is usually indicated on the label as %M.F..
I didn't know about the sun's effect with milk. Now I do.
I am a little jealous…you have a sweatshirt on and I am barley clothed due to the heat🤓🧐. These were great natural remedies…I had never heard about milk. Thank you so much for all the time that you take to share your knowledge with us!
I've been using your baking soda and aspirin spray with success. My tomatoes and peppers are doing great. I also injected my three squash plants with BT as suggested. Lost one, but the other two are still healthy abd producing. Thanks!
Brian Your garden is beautiful You really know your stuff!
Thank you learn lot
Have you ever considered traveling to some of your viewers gardens!! You could do some episodes over that too.. I think that would be awesome!!
I use milk and water for my squash plants for the mildew on the leafs
perfect timing!
Great info! Just wondering, how often can we spray these sprays? Every day or once a week?
Hi I live in the UK just had Rust wipe out all my Snap Dragons its also spreading to sweet william
Super helpful! Thank you! I get powdery mildew on my volcano phlox every year. Hopefully between thinning it and using one of these solutions, that will help. Good luck with your move!
Great job on the video as always. These recipes are greatly appreciated! Thank you for creating a second channel focused on building your homestead. I've subscribed to the second channel.
I have rust on my pole bean plant and vine, should I pull the whole plant? I did also just spray it with Copper fungal yesterday, should I only take off the leave infected? And just leave the infected main stem/vine?
Great info and well delivered. I am subscribed to both channels, wouldn’t miss a video.
Thank you 👍😊
My hollyhocks have a little bit of rust, but no other diseases. I know my tomatoes will blight out at the end of the season though
Hi sir I am having problems on my cucumber. I used neem oil, soup combine it with oil and baking soda. I try everything to get rid off this problems. It doesn't get rid of it. Please tell me what should I do to solve my problem. Thank you and God bless you always
Great information! Thank you for sharing!
Powdery mildew. Sulphur sprays
I planted garlic, but it didn't grow, I planted basil and marigolds, and the bugs ate them. What can I do about white flies?
Insecticidal soap.
A strong jet of water and rubbing with your fingers or an old soft -- SOFT! -- toothbrush also works. Dish soap also.
Very useful video.. 🌿🌿👍👍🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Should you crop rotate in container gardening??
I am so anxious to purchase your book Brian. I know all my "show notes" will be beautifully organized-as they are now NOT. Can we preorder?
Thank you. I don't have details about pre order yet. I am assuming for the holidays?
I have a row of azaleas, I think is developing rust, thanks for the information!!
I am tired Brian Iwill take a break this year maybe start up again in fall
Great information.Thank you!

Thumbs-up for the reminder to do some trimming especially - but is mosaic virus a virus or a fungus? Both?
I'm having wilt issues, so frustrating- I heard it can be spread by the cucumber beetle, is this not true? Do all wilt problems come from the soil?
OK so what happens if the rust is over every single leaf of your garlic plants. You can’t cut off all the greens or you’ll kill the garlic underneath
I have some kale seedlings that have something on the backside of their leaves. They resemble hard crystalized clumps of sugar. Any thoughts? Anyone?
Hello thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have some mushrooms growing in my soil and I don’t know if they are coming from. Any assistance?
Most of the time that's just a sign you have healthy soil!
Thank you so so much
Is mushroom ok in a container compost??
Believe it or not, I don't have powdery mildew. I have everything else. My cucumbers were decimated. Wilt, rust, borers. Some leaves look like skeletons.
Can you please add the remedies to description?
What does Epsom salts do to the soil, is it also a plant nutrient
I'm here for it! 🥰👌🏼🌞
good advice!!
Iam in a full blown panic. Iam a rookie with a small space. I planted one beef steak, and one cherry tomato plant in 7 gallon pots just to see if I can figure it out while still producing fruit. I have a fungus. I think its blite. The leaves at the bottom are fading in color and have brown spots. I alternate between neem oil and baking soda water solution. I live in a HIGH humidity area. My beef steak has 9 branches left coming off the stem. There are tomatoes growing and more blooms. I can't stop it. Im afraid it will reach the fruit and die, killing my fruit 😫 WHAT DO I DO? I need a sure fix!
Is leaf spot the same as rust?
I cant find the link for your new channel

What is the solution of mosiac virus? Please suggest me
You're wearing a hoodie...and it's 100 here....
Some of my collards have holes in them a moth keeps coming by. I believe they r eating them what should I use
My squash has lg white patches an stalks has powdery stuff on them. Will baking soda kill that. Please help!!!
I could have sworn in the past that you used to say that Serenade Garden disease control but this is now no longer made so I am told. What concentrate would you advise now?
My peony plant has browned leaves. What has caused this?
I have a Janet Craig Plant and I think its a disease... it starts off with a yellow spot then it turns into a burnt spot... this is spreading all over... Can you tell me what it is...
Becareful of dish detergent, contains degreasers, use Castile soap instead.
What percentage of vinegar concentration?
Been fighting powdery mildew on pumpkins 😮💨
You're always teachin' me somethin'. Whoop!
So, if you cut the rust, powdery mildew, etc., off your plant, can you throw it in the composter or should you just trash it?
Trash!
Does this work for blight in tomatoes??? I've done hydrogen peroxide but I don't think am doing enough 😕 of a dose
Hi we have a new zeal and flax that needs attention. I noticed at the base the stem has a white smallest barely visible little bug. What can we do please help
Also where can I find of bug photos. Like the tiniest bugs or mites on plants?
Wilt and white fly
I couldn't keep up enough spraying to keep the powdery mildew under control. My garden gets plenty of sun. I'm just removing the diseased leaves every few days. I didn't think I had mosaic virus but now I'm not so sure after seeing the picture you showed. So milk is the only one that can be sprayed regularly as a preventative? What about neem oil?
Yes you can use neem oil as well
How different is the weather where you are moving to from where you live now
Not too much. About 5 degrees warmer in summer and a couple degrees colder in winter.
When you say milk, do you mean any kind of milk? Could I use buttermilk? Just wondering because I have some that I need to get rid of before it ruins. lol
Yes, use it.
Why don’t you use soap with your mixtures?
I'm seeing Leaf Rott and I dunno why or how to rid of it😢
I’ve got powdery mildew on my cantaloupe, zucchini and squash. What about using Neem oil?
Julianne B. Try the milk! It really works...Good luck! ❤️🍀🌷
A sweatshirt ??? I’m in northern Minnesota (zone 3) and it’s sweltering here 😊.
Crazy weather 🤷🏼♀️
Not even kidding the lady just noticed white spots on the pepper leaves
Question: I found an article listing some of what you said but it was ALL mixed together? Vinegar/hydrogen peroxide/dish soap & water. Because they said to mix it all together would that be overkill do you think?
I’d leave the peroxide out since you’ll make more than you need and want to store what’s not used, thereby losing all efficacy with the hydrogen peroxide unless it’s in an opaque bottle....and I’m not even sure how it reacts to vinegar.
Where are our gardening chemists at? Can vinegar mix with peroxide, do you think? 🤔
I do think that is overkill
PLEASE HELP! I planted lots of marigold seeds around my cabbages because everything says they are good as a deterrent for cabbage worms but since aphids are atrracted to marigolds AND cabbages now i have a buffet for millions of aphids that are eating both plants! Ive been spraying with soap neem oil and Bt but nothing helps, question why do theysay plant marigolds with cabbages if it's only going to bring another infestation problem of aphids 😫😫😫
I have black bug eating my tomatoes, not the plant but the actual tomatoes. What can I do? Please help?
Knock them off into soapy water. They’ll decimate your fruit if you let them get a foothold in your garden. You need to maintain observation 3xday with those guys!
Are you going to do a book review? Would love to see what’s in your book. Come to Idaho so I can get your signature. Love your channel.
I don't have the details on all of that but I would love to come to Idaho.
@@NextLevelGardening Yes! Come visit Idaho!
My Plumeria trees get rust every year about now. I'm in Windermere, Florida zone 9b. Hot, humid and almost daily rain.
