Hi my name is ron Avery and my wife and I will be moving to Fairbanks in late April. I am a truck driver although I will be Retiring. We was wondering what information you can provide us on renting or any information you could give us on Fairbanks my email is ronniavery2692@gmail.com
Cost of living. Mind you I did figure out liquor was about a dollar cheaper than in Florida of all things. Beautiful place and I’m sure it’s a lot of peoples paradise, but like you said it isn’t great for anyone below the line.
I want to move there so bad. I’ve been obsessing over it for the past 5 years. I live in California, and Alaska seems to be the exact opposite. Exactly what I need! Plus, I’m a total fantasy nerd and author. The scenery is perfect and takes me away!!!!
@@DR-eq6qe I have been in the winter when it hit -30 in Fairbanks and was just there (Anchorage/Denali National Park & other areas) last week. Loved both visits. I agree though…definitely visit first!
My wife and I are from Utah and are really considering moving up around homer. The last 10 years has urbanized our hometown and we hate it. Housing is in the millions of dollars, and totally destroys our dream of having a light hearted homestead. Alaska just looks amazing and affordable, we just worry about moving away from family.
one thing I personally would add. is you can't easily get to other states. you pretty much can only go to other parts of Alaska. it's not like down here In OR/WA/ID where in a few hours driving time you can be in a no sales tax state, a statw with different laws, etc. You either gotta take a 3 hour flight to the closest major L48 City (Seattle) or drive or take a boat down. I think I saw somewhere that said roughly 75% of Alaskans possess a passport which is a greater proportion than the population of the U.S. cause they have to otherwise they may or may not be able to travel to the L48.
Been obsessing over Alaska since I was a little guy, I’m 21 now, the call won’t leave my brain, ever. I was gonna just work and save as much as I can, maybe $10/15k and then just up and leave to Anchorage or something, apply and secure a few jobs for when I get out there and start small in a little apartment. Does this seem like a good idea?? I’m from Illinois, love the cold, hate the summer heat, love nature and I really appreciate the scenery and I feel like I thrive when I’m in colder, more nature plentiful environments. I feel like this is for me.
I'm like you, I'm 20, been obsessing over Alaska. General Anchorage area is definitely the best to go to, Fairbanks because it's the interior of the state gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter, Anchorage is more tame year round, so instead of -40 as an extreme in the Winter like Fairbanks, more like -5 to 20 degrees in the winter, and in the summer instead of 90 like Fairbanks expect more like 70 to 75. So the weather is not as extreme and you still get all the benefits of Alaska like the scenery, nice winter conditions, northern lights, midnight sun etc.
Great Video!!! Do you know any one over there who owns Aquariums I love aquariums but I wonder what would happen to the Fish and the aquarium it’s self if a earthquake where to happen lol, I really love the scenery over there I live in Texas and it gets really hot reaching 110* degrees and above sometimes in the summer and reaching 100*+ on a normal basis. I am sure the adjustment is worth it and is possible as far as being used to the temperatures up there it would just take some time, I am a Senior in high school, and I would like to visit in the future for sure, I would strongly consider moving to Alaska Lord Willing after College.
Funny you should mention it, but I actually saved most of the alligators and reptiles in the state when the earthquake went through in 2018. So, the problem is real! lol Keep the aquarium on the first level so if there's a big shake, your tank doesn't dump gallons of water onto the floor and flood your bottom level. Other than that, it's rare to lose power. I lived in Texas for 10+ years so I get the struggle with the heat :)
How are the grocery prices? Gas and diesel prices? We live in Coeur d'Alene right now and I used to live in Fairbanks for 12 years, but I reallllllllyyyy miss Alaska. My husband is an Aircraft Mechanic and we have been looking at Palmer/Wasilla/outskirts of Anchorage.
Mosquitos (is it an issue everywhere or mainly near water/valley areas?) Bears in the summer (places to avoid, tips around safety; bear safety classes available for kids/new people to the concern), and like you said earthquakes (areas hard hit over the years, or is random).
Mosquitos are all over, especially in wooded areas and near water. Anywhere you are hiking, there is a chance of bumping in to wildlife. Anchorage is the biggest city in Alaska, and it is still surrounded by wilderness. You can get to secluded woods and mountains within minutes of leaving downtown! Speaking of downtown-- our city is built on a fault. So downtown was hit very very hard in 1964, and again in 2019.
I want to move up there when I finish nurse practitioner school. I finish in November so plan on moving first of year. I’ll be moving from Dothan, Alabama. I hate the heat and love winter. That’s one of my reasons. What do you think?
Hi I am From Kentucky originally, currently in Georgia ( US) for the Past Five Years.... I've been thinking about moving to Alaska, just curious as to how much of a culture shock I'm in for ? Haha
I've never lived in GA, so I couldn't say specifically, but I moved TX and I noticed people are less outgoing here than in TX. But, still pretty reliable when the chips are down.
I have an internship in Juneau, and I've never left Alabama. I'm looking for an adventure, though. We'll see how this goes in the Summer. I'm looking for jobs up there as a CPA. Do you know what the average salary is in Juneau?
I kinda stumbled upon your channel. I have been wanting to move to Alaska for a while. I would say about 3 years. I started applying to some jobs out there a few days ago. I just want to make the move and start a career. Tired of waiting for a chance to happen so I am taking it. I grew up and still do live in Philadelphia, PA. I am used to the city life but I do want something where I can drive through nature.
Me and my girlfriend wants to move up to Alaska and I work mostly in factory’s as a machine operator I was wondering if there was a suggested city would be most convenient. We both live in Michigan tri city area. Thank you if you do get back to this comment.
Hey I’m moving to Kodiak, AK. We are currently finishing up the drive on the ALCAN. What do you know about the housing in Kodiak? Or what do you know about in Kodiak in general?
Better have a job lined up before u get here or your gonna struggle for a bit ... have some cash on hand people or businesses up here take there time hiring people so be ready for that if u don’t have one already !!
It depends on the home that you're looking at and your program. Depending on your loan program, you might be able to get in for no down payment. Have you spoken with a loan officer yet?
@@alaska_realtor I have not. Im moving/driving to Anchorage this week from Arizona and won’t get there 2 weeks from today. Thank you for the reply! I appreciate this. 🙏🏼

That's a good question! The times I've run into bears it was from a distance and we could avoid them or someone in my group had a gun but that would be a great future topic.
What are some things that I missed? Post them below!

@Master Of puppets no. Cost of living is crazy due to everything having to be imported. A pack of smokes is like 12 bucks if that’s a reference
